August 16, Dear Revdex.com Representative,Ms*** letter confirms that the doctors made a definite effort to communicate effectively with ***'s familyI cannot explain why this communication failed. Our veterinarians care deeply about the pets and their owner, and do their best to work with every pet owner using our services.Because *** had been in labor for days with a puppy in the birth canal, she was extremely sick when she was presented to the hospitalThe medical care she received was very thorough but sadly some patients cannot be savedWe understand how emotionally stressful losing a pet is to the owner, but it does not change the financial components of health care.Again, I would like to express our sincere condolences to Ms*** for the loss of "***". Sincerely,*** * *** DVM Administrator August 16, 2016Dear Revdex.com Representative,These are the estimates and invoices for "***" ***The original estimate was $and was signed by *** ***This was followed by an amended estimate of $which was authorized by phoneThe final billing was $Please note the exam and radiography were included in the estimates which were approved by the ownerIf you have any additional questions about the charges, please contact me.Sincerely,*** ** ***, DVMAdministrator

Dear sir/madam[redacted] brought her dog [redacted] to our hospital at approximately 7:30 AM oh July 16, 2016 because [redacted] had been in labor for the last 2 days and had been unable to deliver any of her puppies to that point. I performed the initial examination on [redacted] and determined that she had a...

number of pups still to be delivered. We determined by X-ray that there were three pups remaining in [redacted] birth canal and uterus. The only option to save [redacted] life and any of the puppies that might still be alive at that time was to perform a caesarian section. At the time of [redacted] presentation, despite having been in labor for a very long time [redacted] still appeared relatively normal other than being moderately dehydrated, and appeared to be a good surgical risk.[redacted] agreed to have us proceed with the surgery. [redacted] was prepared for surgery in a standard manner, and following placement of an intravenous catheter and the administration of fluids, she was anesthetized and I performed the surgery. My surgery was completed shortly after 11 AM of that same day. Postsurgically, her intravenous fluids were continued and she was given an antibiotic and a pain injection, her sedation was reversed and she was warmed. I called [redacted] to advise her of the completion of surgery and suggested that she would likely be able to pick [redacted] and her puppy later that afternoon. At 3:38 PM [redacted] was noted to be slow recovering from anesthesia. At that time her vital signs were within normal limits. We increased her rate of I/V fluid administration. At 5:15 PM I called [redacted] and advised her that [redacted] was not recovering as quickly as would normally be expected, and that we were not sure why that was the case. I recommended she stay with us for further supportive care overnight rather than having her go home as planned, and gave [redacted] a revision to the original estimate to allow for the extra care. She said she would check with her Grandmother to see if that was OK and would call us back, which she did at about 5:24 PM, at which time she approved the addition to her estimate. At 8 PM Dr. [redacted] arrived to take the overnight shift. As is customary when another doctor is coming on shift, each patient's case was discussed to familiarize the incoming doctor with them. At that time, [redacted] condition was noted to be continuing to deteriorate and was very concerning. At 8:50 Pm, after performing further diagnostic tests on [redacted], Dr. [redacted] called [redacted] and advised her of his concerns about [redacted]. He strongly recommended that the owners come in to see [redacted] and discuss further options for care. [redacted] declined any further diagnostics at that time and declined to visit until the morning.Shortly after that conversation, [redacted] suffered a cardiac arrest. Immediate resuscitation measures were undertaken, but were ultimately unsuccessful and [redacted] died at about 9:50 PM Dr. [redacted] called and left a message to be called back. [redacted]'s mother called back shortly  thereafter and was informed of the unfortunate outcome. She requested to come by in the morning to pick up the newborn puppy and [redacted] body and discuss options for aftercare, which she did.Reason's for [redacted] decline and eventual death are not known; no post-mortem was conducted. The most likely cause is sepsis (infection) and toxemia related to her prolonged labor. We feel that everything we did to try to help Sasha deliver her pups was reasonable and very standard procedure which we perform many times every year. Maternal deaths following caesarians are rare, but they do happen occasionally. We did not, nor could we reasonably have been expected to, anticipate the unfortunate outcome, but it is something that happens from time to time despite best efforts. Our records show that [redacted] was not charged for any medications that she was to have taken home for [redacted], nor were any dispensed. We did charge her for a can of puppy milk replacer and a puppy nursing bottle to feed the orphaned puppy that was sent home.[redacted] states that she paid $300 to have [redacted] cremated. Had she had it done through us, she would have paid as little as $41, or $120 if she wished to have [redacted] ashes returned to her. We cannnot be held responsible for what she was charged by a third party for that service. While we are entirely sympathetic to the sadness and grief experienced by [redacted] and her family on [redacted] death, we do not find that we were in error or negligent in her care, and we are therefore unable to offer [redacted] any refund. Yours truly,[redacted] DVM
