To whom it may concern:
As a courtesy to our patients with insurance, we file their dental claims for services rendered. Patients are responsible for paying any deductible and copayment at the time of service. Often our front desk knows nothing about that patient's insurance or even if they have...

insurance until they show up for their appointment. At that appointment, if they have insurance, we submit a claim. It can take months for some claims to be settled. As soon as we are notified by the insurance company of what they pay, we then notify the patients about their outstanding balance or reimburse the patients if an overpayment was made. Many patients know exactly how much coverage they have and the balance of their unused benefit. Unfortunately a few patients, such as Mr. [redacted], have no idea of their dental insurance coverage.
Dental treatment can be expensive and we offer payment plans to offset the financial burden placed on the patient. Our office would have gladly offered a payment plan had we been aware of the problem.As a solution to Mr. [redacted]'s complaint I would recommend payment in full at any future dental appointment and Mr. [redacted] could contact the insurance company himself.
