Astoria Bicycle Reviews (1)

Review: On april, [redacted], 2014 at approximately 1:30pm I went in to the store to purchase a bicycle. The sales associate was very knowledgable and helpful. He told me he was steering me in the direction of a 2013 bicycle because there was nothing better about the 2014 bicycles and they are just more money. The tag hanging on the bicycle was for $549.99. The sales associate told me they did not have my size and would have to order it, and I had to place a $100.00 deposit on the bicycle. I placed the $100.00 deposit and received an invoice with a total amount due of $598.80. On april [redacted], 2014 I went into the store picked up the bike and paid the balance with the same debit card I used to place the deposit. When I got home I noticed the second invoice had a total balance due of $653.24, which is $50.00 more then the invoice price on 4/*/14. When I picked up the bicycle the original sales person was not there and no one explained anything about the price change to me. I have both invoices. I went into the store to resolve the issue. The sales associate that originally sold me the bike told me he had made a mistake on the first invoice, he also told me that the tag on the bike I originally looked at said $599.99. I told him it did not and the tag was for $549.99. He went to show me the tag that was hanging on the bicycle I originally looked at, but it had been sold. He said he could go find the tag that said $599.99, which I told him that was a waste of time because he could have shown me a random tag that said $599.99. I asked what could be done with this issue and he told me nothing, and that it was his mistake. His helpful and knowledgeable attitude from $/*/14 was gone.Desired Settlement: I expect to pay the price that is on the original invoice.

Response:

I have reviewed the the complaint and gone over the event with [redacted]. When the customer came in he showed him the 2014 Raleigh Misceo priced at $599.99. This bicycle also came with a $50 mail in rebate from the manufacture which [redacted] made made clear to the customer. The customer made multiple attempts to negotiate the price of the bicycle which is non negotiable. After coming to an agreement regarding the bicycle purchase (for the price of $599.99 with a $50 mail in rebate) he was rung up under a layaway for said bike which needed to be ordered. The price of the bicycle in question is in fact $599.99 but due to an error by [redacted], the layaway read $549.99. After [redacted] noticed the error he amended the layaway and had every intent of notifying the customer when he came into pick up the bike. Circumstantially the customer came in to pick the bike up on [redacted]'s day off and wasn't informed of the change on the layaway. The change on the layaway was made to reflect the agreed purchase price between the shop and the customer. In the customers complaint he stated, "He was steering me towards the 2013 model bicycle because there because there was nothing better about the 2014 model and they are just more money." This is a statment that was made in regards to the Raleigh Cadent that you were also looking at during the shopping experience. On the Cadent, Raleigh raised the price and not the quality of the bicycle, where as the Misceo was upgraded and the price reflected those upgrades. He stands by the fact that he made the price of the bike clear to you due to repeated attempts to negotiate the price on your part. The 2013 model sold for $549.99 but we've been out of stock on the 2013 model (especially lager sizes) for some time now. He made an honest mistake while creating your layaway. According to my employee, you received the bike you wanted at the price agreed upon.

As a local small business since 1989 we've done everything to maintain a positive relationship with our customers and this situation will be treated no differently.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The tag on the bike was $549. Which I have proof of on an invoice. The sales associate did not inform me of any $50.00 rebate. The response from the business is the second time I have heard that they made a mistake, with no form of apology or corrective measure. The business has no proof/evidence other then their word. I have an invoice which has the agreed upon price.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

The bike the customer received is a 2014 model. We sell this bike for $599.99 + tax. This is the same price for all customers as we don't negotiate prices on bicycles. When he came in and spoke to the employee who assisted him with the sale an apology was made in person which wasn't accepted and he then stormed out of the store. We have no problem refunding the $50, it's not about the money though... For us this is about a customer who attempted to haggle to no end and is taking advantage of an honest mistake to receive the desired discount. Please come in with the same visa card you paid with and we will gladly refund you $50.

Please speak to [redacted] as he is the only person who can process your refund.
