Review: My infant daughter [redacted] was discharged from [redacted] Medical Center with a set of medical equipment from At Home Medical. Before discharging the patient both the hospital case manager and At Home Medical independently assured my that my insurance was accepted and that a prior authorization had been done. After two months the equipment was returned and I was sent a bill for the full amount, indicating my insurance was not accepted. When I contacted At Home Medical, they informed me that an error had been made and that not only did they have the wrong insurance information, but that no prior authorization had ever been performed. At first, the represent [redacted] offered to void my bill for one of the two months of service and take 50% off the second month. After an hour or so she called me back to retract the offer and say she would not be able to take anything but a minor amount off. The bill is now nearly $2,000 in fees.

I am deeply troubled by the fact that I was assured by multiple individuals, including At Home Medical that my insurance had been verified, when it had not. I'm so very upset that [redacted] offered me a substantial discount and then retracted it in the same day. I need help from the Revdex.com dealing with these medical bills, as the mistake that was made was completely the fault of At Home Medical, which they are now demanding I pay.Desired Settlement: The bill should be voided altogether, or at least adjusted to a reasonable amount. The fact At Home Medical made this mistake and is billing me for it is unfair and unjust. I am deeply disappointed with this company and their quality of service.

Response:The insurance card provided shows that medical claims are processed by [redacted] Healthcare. AtHome Medical is an in network provider for [redacted] Healthcare. Mr [redacted] signed paperwork at the time services were rendered which indicate he is aware he would be billed for deductibles and co-pay charges. At this time we are still working with the insurance company to process the claims for February. The March claims have been written off.

I am rejecting this response because:

The information from the provider is incorrect for multiple reasons. First off, the insurance was The [redacted] Plan which includes a special plan within [redacted] HealthCare, of which At Home Medical is not an accepted provider. Therefore, the claims were all denied by [redacted] HealthCare and processed out-of-network. In other words, At Home Medical is not in network with all [redacted] Healthcare plans and does not accept my insurance. This is not a deductible issue and any suggestion as such in At Home Medical's response is false, as I have no in-network deductible for these types of services.Second, At Home Medical was instructed to verify the insurance information prior to processing the order and failed to do so. See attached document "DischargeForm.pdf" in which the hospital case manager [redacted] clearly states "Contact [redacted] Healtcare for eligibility/benefit & auth". [redacted] even included the toll-free number. Furthermore, in the attached document ContactHistory.pdf, Shannon Holden of At Home Medical marked the case as accepted. Despite the documented account, At Home Medical failed to contact the insurance and verify coverage. The issue here is that At Home Medical failed to properly review and process the initial order, and validate insurance information. They repeatedly gave false claims that they accepted my insurance. First, they told [redacted] when she called them to set up and accept the order that they would accept my insurance. Second, they accepted the order and approved the order. Finally, I called them a few days later to verify my insurance was properly accepted and was assured over the phone by their customer support representative that everything had been properly verified and accepted.I received a check for $204.59 for out-of-network reimbursement from my insurance company that I am happy to turn over to At Home Medical, although they have since billed me for $653.13. Since the error in processing was completely on their side, of which they have repeatedly admitting over the phone, they should be responsible for the balance of $448.54. Had At Home Medical been truthful and done their jobs correctly from the start, I never would have used them as a provider. I should not be held liable for such an obvious and gross mistake, one which they have repeatedly admitted making.According to their representative that I spoke with over the phone, 'despite making the mistake they still want to be compensated for their service'. I am willing to send them the $204.59 check from the insurance company, but that is the limit of what I should be responsible for.
