I had way too many problems with the home I rented being a customer before I know the difference of the house being in good order and not this time.I rented this home last year, not a single complaint. I rented from 7/18 to 7/25 paid in full prior to visit per policy. The first day there were swarms of ants all over the deck and in the kitchen,when I moved a coffee pot there were lines of tiny ants all over. There was a pile of sand on the floor which I think was just missed and I simply cleaned it up. And I think it was just an error. The fridge seals dont work well and you must push the door every time, I had to be fridge guard and remind everyone every single time to make sure the fridge was closed. When I seen the ants crawling on my dog ( that you pay extra to have) I was very upset, I called the after hours number and was unable to leave a message. I was spraying the ants off the deck just to be safe from bites. I waited to call when the office was open and they were supposed to come spray for the ants. The very next day they were back and even more. I spoke the the man next door who lives there year round, He stated there are always ants and he sprays often, something that should be done before it becomes an issue.When I was trying to use the dishwasher it was leaking water all over the place. I had to clean the water and empty dirty dishes from the dishwasher and was unable to use it for the whole time, I was upset that the floor might get damaged! I called the office manager and she stated many times they have not had complaints as if I was just making things up. She pretended to be polite and offered me a small refund for the trouble. That afternoon there was a storm,all of a sudden the rain was pouring through the back door, I have photos. I had to keep putting quilts down 2 at a time to soak the water, and change them soaked at least 2 quilts 5 times, I had to wash and dry all of them in the washer that only has hot water. during this time I noticed windows leaking that I also had to soak up with towels. The electric in the kitchen on one side went out, along with the TV and internet. The coffee pot was pouring all over ( pictures again) This was really a nightmare. I was trying to protect the floors and rug. I had no phone service, therefore had no choice anyway. I did what a decent person should. I needed to be with my mother in law, so I just waited to talk to them when I left, I spent enough time trying to get them after hours when they dont answer anyhow. The mamnager there when I checked out seen my pictures, told me he tested the phone and had only one other person report that and explained there was trouble with the routers all over. They knew full well I was upset and told me to wait until Monday for the other manager. ( Jeannie) She called me on Monday when I was already home and changed her pretend polite tone to just saying over and over there will be no further compensation. That I should have called them for the little mop up. I told her over and over it was not a mop situation. I told her I have photos. I told her my vacation was runied because of all the time I spent cleaning and dealing with bugs and water and broken things and laundry: I could have stayed home for that less the bugs! She just kept saying no further compensation until I finally just hung up. For the money I paid, I should not have had to do all this. For being a person that cares about others, I should not be told I was wrong. For being a repeat customer they should care that I remain one. Shame my only free time was spent as a bug spraying water cleaner. They should have been happy I cared not to allow the floor to be runined along with the rug. Shame on them they don't want their customers back!Desired SettlementVery simple, I want a refund. I want them to care about their customers and not make them feel like they complain for no reason.Business Response /[redacted]/Guest checked into the property on 7/18/15 and she did contact our office reading ants. On the weekend we were unable to get pest control so a member of our housekeeping staff went to the property with ant traps for inside and sprayed on the deck. We left her message on 7/19 to let her know what we had done and to contact our office on Monday if she felt like pest control needed to go out as well. Guest did not contact our office again with any issues until she called on 7/23/15. She did state to me that she tried our after hours pager but was unable to leave a message on it. During this conversation she let us know the problem with the dishwasher, which was why she was trying to call the pager, and the issue with the refrigerator and the washer as well as the continued problem with the ants. We did ask her why she hadn't contacted our office sooner to report the issue so we could resolve them. Her response was because she was in Morehead City taking care of her mother in law and didn't want her to hear her complaining. We did offer to have repairs on the appliances and a re-spray for the ants. She stated she did not want anything done, to wait until her departure, but she did want compensation. Our office manager reviewed her reservation and let her know that she had not been charged a pet fee so she had already been given a $100 discount. She was then offered a refund of an additional 15% and she accepted. The refund on her credit card was run immediately. The total credit between the refund and pet fee was 20% off.On July 23, 2015, there was a severe storm with widespread flooding, wind gusts, funnel clouds and intense lightning in Carteret County. The storm made national news. It was an unusually severe storm that led to windows leaking that have not ever leaked before or since due to the winds and driving rain. There were cable and electrical issues throughout the county due to this storm. Unfortunately, the weather is out of our control. Had she contacted us, we would have offered assistance in cleaning up, replacing towels, etc. We do value our guests and we feel like we did give a fair refund for her problems. The appliance issues were simple repairs that we addressed on her departure and have had no complaints before or since.Consumer Response /[redacted]/The reply that was given is not correct, in fact includes lies. I DID TRY to call them, and I DID NOT get any answer, they know that and admitted there was others that had the same problem. I DID NOT say I didnt want things fixed, what I DID say was that at this point after not being able to have things done early in my stay that it wouldnt help at that point I would be spending time with my family members who live close by. I did also say there was so many problems there just being there was annoying and I didnt wanna spend the rest of my time complaining when I have family to see. SHAME ON YOU ATLANTIC BEACH REALITY for changing what I said.I had ZERO complaints last year when I stayed, I dont complain out of habit or to get things for free.I already said I had to use quilts MANY to soak up water, not a few little towels. I never said you control the weather, but you DO CONTROL the maintance of the home, not well at all. It was not only the windows, again the rain was pouring threw the door I dont care what kind of storm, the door should have proper seals. Dont downplay the troubles I had there as minor repairs, our vacation was ruined because of lousy maintance, bugs,and floods and just being annoyed. You should be ashamed trying to make it seem like I am just a hard to please person. I agreeed to the SMALL discount BEFORE all of the other problems...an entire weeks worth! I WAS a repeat customer, I am happy we are disposable to you...you must book everything solid every week. I promise to tell my friends about your service....the lack of. We rented a condo for week. Rental company did not tell us that condo below us is under construction. It starts at 8 am and continues until 7pm. Rented condo did not tell us before that condo below us is under xonstruction.Desired SettlementDo not feel it is fair to pay full price if we can not enjoy condo all day due to noise from construction.Business Response /[redacted]/Guest was staying in 344 A Place at the Beach III. This is a 279 unit condominium complex in Atlantic Beach - units are privately owned. He called our office on the morning of 7/22 to complain about noise in the unit below, 244. Unit 244 is not on our rental program so we immediately contacted the Homeowners Association to inquire. We were informed that the owner was having flooring replaced and was within the guidelines of the rules and regulations to work no later than 7 pm. The HOA did speak with the contractor and he said he expected to be finished the following day. We had no way of knowing that the private owner was planning to have their flooring replaced. We certainly would have preferred that work not be occurring during the busy summer rental season but neither we or the owner of 344 have any way to control that. We did call the guest back and let him know all this.Consumer Response /[redacted]/I was not able to stay in condo from 9am until 7pm. The noise was so loud that when I called to tell them about it they could hear it over the phone and said "wow that is very loud". I had to take my family out of condo each day for 4 days from 9am until 7pm because noise made it unbearable to stay in condo. I do not fill that I should pay a full weeks rent if I did not get to use condo fully for 4 days. I would like at least a partial refund for the time I had to spend on my vacation not relaxing in confo. Final Business Response /[redacted]/Resolved directly with guest.
