Review: I had given my boat, a 1986 Sea Ray Sundancer 270 vin # [redacted] to do a mechanical inspection of the vehicle and give me a list of what needs to be done to be 100% and to detail the entire boat to get it surveyed for insurance purposes. [redacted]. (one of the owners I believe) said they inspected the boat and only found one outdrive defective with a crack housing and had not checked the other outdrive but insisted it would be a good idea to change both together. They removed my outdrives and then kept pushing the work saying they were overly busy and if I can wait they will get to my boat the next week for the repairs. I personally visited them three time in person and was told sorry and they promised again next week each time. I had no choice, I mean how can I move a boat without drives that were in their possession. I also gave $500.00 every time I visited (in total 3 times = $1500.00) to take the bite off the final bill which was estimated at around $3,000 to replace both outdrives. The detail work was put aside until this work was to be performed. That is when tropical storm sandy hit. They explained they already pickled my motors and shrunk wrap my boat for storage expecting my boat not to be finished before the boating season's end. So they had the boat ready for long storage I guess expecting me to have them dry dock over the winter. After Sandy hit everything was damaged and apparently my boat floated around their yard with several other boats breaking my custom teak Anchor pulpit in two and leaving some mild gouges/scratches on the hull but nothing severe. I asked if the Boat took on water and [redacted] explained he did not think so but would have to inspect to be sure. This is when it started and they did not return calls and ducked me out every time I called or visited. Now a year later the boat is in bad condition due to their neglect and business practices and they offer no way to correct it other then an oh well. There is more but limited to the words I can type.Desired Settlement: I either want a fair monetary payment for the worth and replacement of the boat or properly repaired from the damage it received in their care and storage due to their neglect and business practice.

Dear [redacted], Re: [redacted]

In the spring of 2012, [redacted] had his 1986 Sea Ray Sundancer towed to our yard via water. The boat had many issues mainly because it had not been maintained in quite some time. When we hauled the vessel the lack of maintenance became very evident and the boat clearly had not been out of the water in some time, with major barnacle growth and moss which caused the one out drive to be completely cracked duelo electrolysis- needing to be replaced & the other out drive was beyond repair and needed to be replaced. To be clear, this style boat, an inboard/outboard application, must be hauled and maintained annually to prevent the damages that this boat suffered. We maintain many boats of similar age, however these boats were maintained properly and annually, avoiding such damage.

I, [redacted]. Vice-President and General Manager of Atlantic Service & Equipment Corp., explained to [redacted] that it would be in his best interest to wait until winter to do the work as it was getting later in the season and we could give him a better deal on rebuilding and repairing the out

drives. [redacted] was thankful for our honesty and we agreed to winterize, shrink wrap and winter store the boat. He was billed for those services which we performed to protect his boat from further damage.(See billed attached)

On October [redacted] 2012 Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast. We are located in the Rockaways and were hit especially hard. Every boat in our yard floated, and as [redacted] stated, his pulpit was damaged and there was some scratches and gouges. A number of boats in our yard were damaged; some beyond repair. Our customers with insurance submitted claims to their insurance companies. Those customers without insurance had to pay out of pocket for the repairs made to their boats and for still others when it was determined the repairs were too costly they scrapped their boats. Nothing that happened during Sandy was due to our neglect and to suggest that is untrue and insulting.

[redacted] questioned several times if the boat was worth installing new motors and replacing the drives or was it better to cut his losses and find a newer boat In trying to be as honest as possible finding a newer boat was his best course of action. Reality was that before the storm the boat needed major exterior waxing and extensive cleaning both inside & out, as well as all the work necessary for the motors & out drives to work properly. All of this added up to very costly repairs. I spent many, many hours researching on-line & through the many marine publications at our disposal for 1986, 27' Sea Rays with similar engines & style. But to no avail. Anythi ng Icould find had been overhauled & upgraded. So in all honesty there is no fair market value for a 27 year old boat in its original state, having no upgrades. After trying to explain this to Mr Galabrese he seemed very indecisive - not being able to make a decision.

He flip flopped several times over the course of the winter and summer. But one thing remained very clear, [redacted]'s boat was in need of a lot of costly work if he was to keep it

Atlantic Service has been in the Marine business for over 30 years. We repair and repower boats every day. We are a family owned business who relies on good customer relationships. We are here 6 days a week and in the peak of our season 7 days. If we avoided work or avoided our customers we certainly would not still be in business. To say that we did not return calls or ducked [redacted] is false.

I personally spoke to [redacted] several times both in person and on the phone. The last call I received Iwas verbally berated. At that time I asked that he come in person to speak to us but instead I then received this letter.

At this time we are requesting that this boat be removed from our premises before further charges are incurred.

If there are any questions concerning this matter please feel free to contact me via email ([redacted]) or phone ###-###-####.

Thank you for your time.

GO PACK GO!'!!

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

This company is not telling the truth. I wish I could say it any other way but it is what it is. First and foremost I am in touch with the two previous owners before me and they can attest to the clean and near mint condition of the boat and it's drive train. Next I have pictures of the boat 2 weeks before Boat US towed it to Atlantic service. It was towed because I was unable to be there with my work schedule, it was indeed a running and driving boat. I also have more then enough people to back the condition of the boat and the treatment I received from this business my boat was in care of. Along with this I have receipts and paper work to back how well the boat's condition was until Atlantic Service's negligence and irresponsible way of doing business with me ruined it. I have no internet until Wednesday evening when the tech comes to repair my line, but when he does I will be happy to scan everything and show proof. I also intend to get an attorney involved now seeing the integrity the people at Atlantic has shown blatantly lying and knowing what they stated is false. I would also like to see any signature of mine condoning the work they claim, or as required by law my signature on any estimate that was agreed upon, much less the agreement of winter storage . As for those bills Atlantic Service is claiming are legit, I have never seen them. Being they have no signature as any business does when dealing in this kind of costs why don't they provide a post dated envelope as any business of 35 years would do being this experienced. Please check file attached and tell me this was not a nice and well cared for boat which btw was not that hard to maintain seeing it only has 660 original hours on both Mercur 5.7 v8 engines. Still used today I might add in many boats due to their reliability. Also I would like to state I am a mechanic and auto body man for the NYCTA / MTA. Which also made it easy in maintaining the boat. Just because this was my first dealing with Atlantic Service does not mean no one else touched the boat before them.
