Mr*** was initially given a rough verbal estimate, based on what he said was wrong with the vehicle. When Mr*** brought his vehicle in, it was discovered that other work needed to be performed prior to repairing the
head gasket. A written estimate was issued. Mr*** then asked for a line of credit from Atlantic Tire. Unfortunately, that is not something that the company offers. The mechanic spent over two hours diagnosing the problem, however Atlantic Tire only charged the customer an hour labor. This would have been reimbursed if he choose to have the work done. Atlantic Tire has been in business for almost years, we try to be fair with everyone. Verbal estimates are given to customers, but once the vehicle is seen and diagnosed a written estimate is given, since the mechanic may discover something unforeseenIn reference to complaint number 10424697, Atlantic Tire refunded Mr*** $
Review: On the end of the week of the 24 of Jan 2015 I stopped at Atlantic Tire to inquire about a repair of my 2001 Oldsmobile Silohette van.
I explained to the mechanic that the head gasket was blown and the car was pushing water out of the radiator overflow container.
I speciacly asked what would it cost to replace the head gaskets in my van and was given a verbal estimate of $1000 to $1200 to
repair my car because it's a lot of work to do it. The mechanic's name is LUG. I made arrangments to bring the car to him on Tuesday the
27th of Jan 2015. I dropped my car off on the appointed date and was told by LUG to see the girl out front and she will take down my information.
On Jan 30th 2015 I received a call from Atlantic Tire stating that the repair will cost $2200, this was told to me by ** the owner of the store.
I asked what happened to the $1000 to 1200 that lug said it would cost and was told labor will be $1275.00 alone. I said do not repair the car and I would come by to pick it up.
When I dropped off my car and in all conversations I had no one ever told me that it would cost $90.95 just to check to see what my car needed even after I told them it needed a head gasket.Desired Settlement: refund the charge for telling me what my car needed when I asked for a specific repair,
and also because I was never told that there would be labor to just check the engine
and no where does it say there would be that charge on the bill they gave me.
If a refund is not possible I would like to see them change their practices to include all charges not hidden charges as they did to me
and to notify customers in advance there would be a charge to check to check their vehicle if they decide not to get the car repaired there.
Also to stop giving false verbal estimates then giving a completely different written estimate a few days later.
I fell he gave the low estimate just to get my car in for the service and figured I would just go along with the cost of the higher estimate.
