Atlas Asphalt Reviews (12)

Review: In late Fall 2013, I contracted with Atlas Asphalt to widen my driveway from a single car to a double car driveway with a paver outline and asphalt in the middle, a paved walkway and stoop cover. The job was completed in late November 2013. They initially graded our driveway and when the men came to lay the asphalt, they complained to us that it was graded improperly and had to be fixed. They fixed it. When early spring 2014 (early April) came and the warmer weather came, we noticed puddling of water, divots, tire dents, weeds growing through the asphalt and a softball sized hole in our driveway. We called to complain about the issues and Atlas sent their salesman to review the driveway. The salesman ignored our appointment time and showed up 3 hours early at 7 a.m., took a few photos and left without our knowledge. I called and complained since he should have called or honored the original appointment. I needed to show the salesman all of the issues. I then sent photographs via email to Atlas. After months of promises to fix the driveway and never showing up, Atlas showed up in late June to fix the problem.

Again on Sept. **, 2014, I called to complain of additional divots, puddling, and a crumbling driveway. As the summer went on, the driveway became very soft and small pieces would lift away and could easily be washed away by a hose. The driveway has never been hard and as the time has gone on, more and more dents become apparent. They sent another salesman ([redacted]) to review the driveway. He said his recommendation was a new driveway due to the fact that our driveway has never cured because they completed the driveway very late in the season. In fact, the woman in the office asked me "do you think it was a bad batch?" And said that we were one of the last driveways done last year.

I followed up with [redacted] in the office who always had to speak to [redacted]. I asked what they were going to do about the dents/divots and the crumbling driveway. She replied they will patch the divots. She did not address the constant crumbling of the asphalt. We scheduled an appointment, they cancelled the day before for the patch work. She also stated they would be seal coating our driveway as well. I asked if that will take care of our cars sinking into the driveway and she stated "I don't know, do you think it will work?" I replied " I don't know I'm not the expert." She said she would ask her [redacted]. She rescheduled for another appointment. I called to confirm that day they would be coming and I was given an "I don't know. You're on the schedule but we are very busy" I then asked once again what are you going to do about my driveway crumbling. [redacted] replied "hmmm...I don't know. I'll have to talk to my [redacted] and I'll call you right back." I have followed up with two more calls where she indicated they were too busy. I then asked about the seal coating and [redacted] replied that they can't do it until the driveway is a year old. So why offer that in the first place? They don't even know if that will fix the problem. I sent them 19 photos detailing all of the issues. I still have no resolution except a promise to fix the divots only. I want them to fix the crumbling driveway. When I sent them photos of the first patch job they did, you can clearly see that the patchwork asphalt is sealed much tighter together than our original driveway. It's very obvious that the asphalt in our driveway is loose. Once water freezes into our loose driveway, it will completely destroy our driveway.Desired Settlement: I want them to rip out the asphalt and redo the entire driveway during the proper weather temperature, which clearly affects the curing process of the asphalt. They knew it was too late in the season yet they proceeded to fit us in at "last minute." Or I would like a partial refund to cover the cost of another company to redo the asphalt part of our driveway.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Hi,I am unclear to their response on the driveway. My husband spoke to Atlas recently. Since filing a complaint with the Revdex.com, Atlas has never contacted us. We had to contact them. As stated per their response, they did offer to come this season but my husband reminded them that they completed the driveway late in the season and this is why we are having problems. The woman ([redacted]) stated we will have the driveway replaced in the spring of 2015. If this is what she meant in her reply, then yes her response is acceptable. Please have Atlas clarify their response. I have attached several images of our driveway. thanks,[redacted]

Review: Atlas Asphalt excavated my driveway and paved it in October 2015. The asphalt started to separate and crumble about one month later. There are now spots that have crumbled completely and there is dirt. I contacted Atlas around the 1st of December. I was told someone would come to look at my driveway, which they did on December [redacted]. This person told me he was unable to repair the driveway and would have to speak to the office as to how they would proceed.

I did not hear back from Atlas so I called them. I was told by Melissa that the owner would have to make the decision as to how to fix the problem. I told Melissa that I would like a phone call from the owner. I never received a phone call back from the owner.

I waited a couple of more days and called again and I was told that it was up to the foreman as to how to proceed with the driveway and a crew would come out to "fix" my driveway the week of the [redacted] of December. Atlas never showed up and I never received a phone call.

I called on the [redacted] and was told that I was on the schedule for the [redacted]. Again, no show, no phone call. Since then I have e-mailed and left numerous messages with the answering service and have yet to receive a phone call back from Atlas.

During these few weeks I was constantly told that they were at the mercy of the weather and could not work if the temperature dropped below 45 degrees, which I don't believe it ever did for the month of December.

The quote was $2900. We paid $1500 with a check and $1400 on a credit card.Desired Settlement: My driveway looks awful. It is now separating in multiple areas. I believe the entire driveway needs to excavated and repaved.

Response:

Atlas has all intentions on addressing any and all issues regarding this complaint once the weather is conducive and all crews are back out working on a daily basis which will be some time early March 2016. This issue was brought to our attention as the season was coming to a close and all of our customers were in very high demand of our services so Atlas would deeply like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have causing but would also like to reassure the customer that weather we have to perform repairs, a resurface or a redo will be decided and performed by a Forman of Atlas once asphalt is produced again. On the day that this service be performed an amount in cash only of $1400.00 will be due as a charge back on the customers behalf has been made. This issue is a priority to us and will be one of the first things we handle once the weather warms up.Thank you,Atlas Asphalt Management

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

We appreciate that Atlas Asphalt has said that this will be a priority in March but because of past scheduling and communication issues on the part of Atlas Asphalt this matter should not be closed by the Revdex.com until the work is actually performed. We will wait for Atlas to contact us in March when they are ready to work and once the driveway is satisfactorily repaired or replaced we will let the Revdex.com know that our complaint has been satisfied. But once again, we note that until the work has been performed this complaint should remain open.

Review: Atlas paved my driveway Aug. 2003 for about 3,000. After the first rainstorm we saw it was pitched wrong. I took pictures and sent them to [redacted] the [redacted]. After several calls and [redacted] coming over he decided the driveway had to be redone and repitched. Once again, after several rainstorms and more pictures I called [redacted] and told him this is the lady with the flooded driveway in [redacted]!!! The driveway was still pitched wrong and he needed to rectify the problem. He agreed and had a large drain installed in my driveway. To this day I still have a flooded driveway!! So now the driveway is starting to sink around the drain and I called Atlas to tell them and told them they needed to do something!

I have visions of having a sink hole! They sent a guy over to take pictures and he agreed yes you have a problem. Well at least someone believes me!!! So now [redacted] at Atlas says they can't do anything for me because it's too old and too long ago! Plus, I don't have the contract! They have no record of me after doing my driveway 3 times over! O that's good! So she hung up on me!!!! Of course I called back and spoke to [redacted] and told her [redacted] hung up on me and I'm not going away until this is fixed and I want [redacted], the [redacted] to call me cuz [redacted] the father died and he can't help me anymore. I forgot to tell you that, because I never sued Atlas ,Lou gives me complimentary seal coats whenever I want. They have no record of that either!!!! So [redacted] hasn't called me tonight as promised so I decided to file a complaint. I'm so sick of businesses walking all over people and taking advantage of them. All they want is your money and they do lousy work!!!!Desired Settlement: I want the driveway fixed so I don't sink in it one day or one of my kids! I want Atlas to stand by their work and fix my driveway that was never done correctly in the first place!!!!

Business

Response:

Unfortunately our records do not go back over 10 years & being the extreme length of time passed not only is this not covered under the one year guarantee but we can not even confirm that Atlas was the contractor that install this work because the customer is unable to supply a contract. We would be more than glad to set up an appointment with a sales representative to provide the customer with a estimate to either repair the driveway or remove & replace at a cost to the customer.

[Your Answer Here]They have some nerve saying they can't confirm they did the job! They came here 3 separate times! I have a flooded driveway up to the Belgium block every time it rains. I took pics and sent them to [redacted] the [redacted] of Atlas who is now dead! He was the one that offered us complimentary sealants anytime! How can they not have any record of us! That [redacted] in the office is an it and hung up on me! I can probably go to my bank and maybe they can find the canceled check for the original job. They sent a guy here a few wks ago and even he admitted we have an issue over here. The driveway is sinking we're they put a drain in! The guy took pics of it! I'm not letting this go. They need to fix it!!!

Atlas has been in business for over 25 years & as we thrive for 100% customer satisfaction. We have been instructed by our litigation team not to entertain this complaint due to the name calling which is considered verbal abuse shown by this customer toward Atlas, as no Company nor home [redacted] should have to endure such viscous, unprofessional & disrespectful conduct such as this. Settling happens over a period of time which is the case here & is of NO fault of Atlas.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because

O please, verbal abuse!!!! You are the business, I am the customer! Your employee hung the phone up on me!!! Is that the professional way to treat your customers [redacted]? Didn't your dad tell you "the customer is always right! I guess not. I have been living with a FLOODED driveway for over 10 yrs now!!!!!!!!! Atlas did my driveway around 2003. It was pitched WRONG. You came back and redid it, WRONG! You came back a 3rd time and put in a large drain. Did it solve the problem, NOOOOOOOOOOO! We still have a FLOODED driveway because Atlas did it wrong from day 1!!! I sent your father pictures of my flooded driveway. And the fact that you have no record of us in your system really goes to show what a unprofessional business you run!

So, no I am still not satisfied with your response. [redacted], the [redacted] or the daughter need to call me ###-###-#### or stop by one day [redacted]) when its raining heavily and see what I am talking about. They know they did the job. The driveway should not be sinking! When there is a sink hole in my driveway, then everyone on Long Island will know all about Atlas Asphalt. I do regret not suing your wonderful company. Your father offered us free seals for the lifetime of the driveway and that isn't even happening. It's very upsetting how you treat your customers and I can't believe your still in business.

Sincerely,

I had atlas paving tear out and replace asphalt driveway .I told them before they started job that my driveway had a slight pitch toward house at the center of driveway . They reassured me that new driveway would be pitched away from house .. I also had them repoint my stoop . Was told that they would do steps and sides of stoop.. Well when stoop was done and I came home from work I noticed that sides were not done still had missing mortar .. I called office and they said they would send the mason back to fix in a few days .. Two days later my driveway was done (stayed home from work that day) at the end of the job I can see that the driveway was higher in the middle causing it to pitch towards they house . Was told that it wasnt and it just appear to look like that .. A few days late I wet it down a water ran toward house ... Called office said their is nothing that can be done ...asked about repointing a when the mason was coming back was told in a few day .... No one ever came got tired of calling .. Fixed it myself ... Bottom line avoid this company at all cost ... An the guy I was dealing with was the owner.. Horrible customer service

Review: Hi My name is [redacted]I wanted to get my driveway redone, I have chosen Atlast Asphalt because they are in the community. I was promised a morning service (2x) and they came in the late evening on one of the occasions. The next morning I have noticed that the job was very poorly done with dips and cracks in the blacktop of the driveway. (The driveway does not look uniformed). I am very unsatisfied with the results, the reason being is because it was done at night time and they did not have the proper lighting to do the job the correct way. I have called the company to complain about the job and they stated that they will contact the [redacted]. He came to see the job and said "I okayed him to do the job at night" which is not true. He said that he will give me a free "seal-coating" which will only hide the imperfections short-term. (which it pointless) cause the drips and cracks will still be there.I will also like to state that this is a very DISFUNCTIONAL company to deal with. I have read some of the reviews afterwards and noticed that all reviews are the same: Example. (bad job, free seal coating, not satisfied, they are a ripoff) all reviews were horrible.Desired Settlement: I would not like a refund, I just want my driveway to be done the correct way. I understand that it is winter time and the job may not be completed at this time. I would like something in writing stating that they will come back in the spring time to redo my driveway in the early morning hours.Thank you [redacted]

Response:

This complaint comes to us as an utter SHOCK because Atlas has been more than compliance with all of [redacted]'s demands. Atlas has documented that we advised in the best interest of the overall outcome of the project to not pave this driveway till the spring of 2015 which we were told by the customer he did not want to do & was adamant about us completing the job on Thursday 12/*/14, in which Atlas showed up with material & spent 2-3 hours setting this driveway up because it was still to soft & the customer had the Forman sign off that if any issues arise with the driveway it is under a one year guarantee & we will fix it. A driveway from beginning to end normally takes about 3 weeks "this driveway was excavated on 11/**/14" due to the fact being after asphalt or concrete is removed from an area the ground needs time to settle & this is a case of exactly that. Atlas has been to [redacted]'s home to pave it on TWO occasions prior "which he does not mention" & on those occasions it was assessed & explained that the ground is still soft so in stead of performing a poor job we advised the customer of our professional advise to wait & that was simply not acceptable to the customer, he wanted to be paved in cold conditions on 12/*/14 which if he did not approve why did he supply lighting for the crew when they were performing the paving service on this day if he did not okay it.I must mention as the customer is always right when is a line drawn because this customer speaks about dysfunction on the companies part when in all actuality we would receive a dysfunctional 7-9 phone calls a day & office visits from this customer & on every occasion we went above & beyond to satisfy his needs by sending multiple crews on multiple occasions to give him what he wanted. At this point Atlas has a balance due of $1500.00 on this project & until that payment is received we can not send a crew out to address the issues Atlas was forced to perform. As for reviews, Atlas performs a very large volume of residential & commercial projects there for the complaints mentioned are few compared to all the jobs we complete in a season, also fact is people are more eager to complain then to praise.Atlas Asphalt Management

[Your Answer Here]

This is a complete LIE ... I never gave anyone the "okay" to lay asphalt down in the late evening into the night hours. I received a call from [redacted] at Atlast stating that this job will be done in the early morning. The crew did assured me that the job will done correctly (and I have proof and a signature). At this time my driveway looks aged and it has dips and cracks and its ONLY 5 days old. Im not asking for a refund, the only thing that im asking for is for my driveway to be redone the CORRECT way, even if I have to wait until the spring. I have called 3x because I was promised a morning delivery on 2 separate occasions and this was not done. Overall I would like some type of agreement so this can be resolved in a professional manner. The first payment was done on November ** 2014 for $2000.00 The second payment was done on November ** 2014 for 3600.00 Yes I do have a balance of $1500.00 and that will be paid for once the job is completed the correct way.NOTE TO SELF That Atlas Asphalt Was On Channel 12 News on Monday November * 2014: [redacted] of Deer Park-based Atlas Asphalt to unload truckloads of contaminated construction debris from New York City at four sites in Suffolk County. A special grand jury returned a 32-count criminal indictment in the case, which was unsealed Monday morning. [redacted] This is just to assure you what kind of people we are dealing with. Very UNPROFESSIONAL Crooks in my eyes. If they are indicted, than my job probably wont be completed. This is just embarrassing, and very unprofessional.NOT TO MENTION that Atlas Asphalt was on the news November * 2014 for dumping illegal Thank You

Review: Late during the spring of 2014 we contracted Atlas to replace an existing concrete driveway and walkway with asphalt and a cobble boarder. The initial escavation and installation seemed to go without incident. Shortly after the instalation and after waiting the requisite time to drive on our driveway we noticed tire marks on our pavement. Atlas blamed the ambient temperature as if asphalt isnt desined to be installed outside and said that a salesman would review our complaints. Thier salesman agreed with our complaints and a repair crew was scheduled. The repair crew seemed competant and they heated and tamped the tire marks. Now the problem was that our brand new driveway had scorch marks from the torch and was still uneven from the tamper. Atlas' solution was to offer us a free sealcoat which would be applied in the spring to normalize the appearance of our driverway. The sealcoat was applied without incident. During the summer of 2015 we noticed long cracks and still more tire marks in our driveway. Atlas sent another repairman in early september to fix our issues by filling in the cracks and tamping the tire marks. Currently we still have cracks, other than the ones that were addressed. My driveway still has tire marks and indentations and generally looks terrible.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the money that I paid Atlas so I can have a more reputable company replace their shoddy work.

Business

Response:

In regards to the addressing claim, Atlas has attempted with satisfaction (proven in attachment) to retify the issue by heating the areas of damage and smoothing them out. We ask all of our customers to please handle the asphalt with care during the first year following installation as the asphalt expands and contract with the hot and cold weather. We thrive for 100% customer satisfaction and are not pleased with the fact to hear the problem is still arising but due to the season coming to an and we ask the customer continue to drive and access the driveway with care and if it seems to worsen after the winter is over we will take the issue back up come the spring. Thank you,Atlas Asphalt Management

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Our driveway still has cracks that continue to spread. We are extremely unsatisfied with the product. Our driveway was installed more than a year ago and we treated the driveway as instructed by Atlas. Atlas has tried repeatedly to fix the problems with their product. The satisfaction sheet that my wife signed was that they actually showed up and performed some repairs not to the result of the repairs. That being said the driveway that is a little more than a year old is still not to my satisfaction and is still in need of repair. I have to believe at this point that Atlas is trying to kick this problem down the road and has no interest in rectifying the situation that they created. I again request a refund of the fees paid to Atlas so that I can hire a contractor to fix Atlas's shoddy work. this issue has been going on for more than a year and we paid for a product that is flawed at best.Respectfully,[redacted]

I got a seal coat done from this company, they came in after rescheduling me three times ,finally when they came in they did the seal coat while it was raining.

Next morning when I came out side what I saw was unbelievable my whole driveway is fenced in with vinyl fence, the seal coat got splashed all over on the fence.

I called there office and wanted to talk to the owner but he would not come up on the phone, then the office manager came up her name was Melissa, she said they have chemicals to take that off so she will send them back on the next day or two,I waited no one came in I gave them the call again they said someone will be there on the weekend, I waited no one came in and was told by their employee that some one rescheduled me for next thursday,I said let me talk to the office manager, she came back on the phone listen plz bear with us we will be there on [redacted] October to clean the fence, but today they didn't come in again I gave them a call now they don't even know when they can come,I will take further action but don't go near this companyDesired Settlement: Wants to make sure they fix their mess up ,and don't practice this anymore

We have just contacted and informed this customer that we will be there tomrw 9/**/15 to perform the power washing.

Response:

Atlas has been to the residence and performed power washing and cleaned the fence. This area of asphalt that was sealcoated is in extremely poor condition consisting of broken up asphalt, cracking and sinkage. As we do our best to keep a handle on watching the forecast for rain there was no way we could have for seen or intentionally performed a service that would do any sort of damage to any residence. We do greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but Atlas has done there very best to rectify the problem caused not only by sealcoating but a major water issue in that area that was taking place before we did the sealcoating. I had my drivewy done by atlas asphalt well itf I was you I would never hire this company. Beaware they do not provide the workmanship or product you hare them for. My driveway is falling apart no matter what they did to rectify the job it was one thing after another. My neighbor worked for them and informed me how bad they cut corners. If you looked at my driveway you would think my driveway was 15 years old or older. It is less then 7 years old. I would rethink hiring them if you are in the process of doing your driveway. How they got certified by the Revdex.com is beyond me.

Review: I had my circular driveway done last yr and it had not been done properly and has to be repaired in many areas. This March I called to have them fix those repairs and they told me that in april they will schedule a repair crew out to do the necessary repairs. They never got back to me so now I call them at least once a week asking them when a repair crew will be here and they keep giving me excuses saying the crewes are on other big jobs and they arent sending out repair crews until their boss tells them to send them out. There are full of excuses and nothing is getting done with the repairs here. Please help me in this matter THANK YOUDesired Settlement: By getting all the repairs done properly and now since they looked at itin March there have been more areas to be repaired.

Review: Hello my name is [redacted]. I have a complaint against atlas asphalt. The sales women [redacted] is a liar and cheat. She has promise to fix my driveway for the last year and some. The driveway is full of cracks and tire marks. I have called her a number of times on her cell phone and she does not respond at all. I called the owner on his cell phone and left my name and phone number. He doesn't even have the decency to call me back. This problem has been going on for years. Last year I was told Alta's asphalt was going to rip my driveway out and redo but [redacted] told them no. When atlas did my driveway they advertise a 10 ton roller to roll out the driveway and put down the asphalt. When I showed up they were done with the driveway and they used a 2 ton roller. False advertise.Desired Settlement: I want my driveway to look like they promised new and not to fall apart

We have been in contact with [redacted] & have scheduled the excavation of his driveway for 9/**/14.

Review: Had old driveway removed and replaced with paver boarder, paver apron and asphalt in October of last year. In February/March we noticed the asphalt was giving way. In multiple locations large rocks and the underlay can be seen through the asphalt. In multiple locations the asphalt as rough and breaking up. They also covered 2 in-ground sprinkler zones when laying down the asphalt.

In summary the asphalt is coming up and not 2 inch as indicated in the order. Two in-ground sprinklers zones are not operational and two of the pavers in the apron are cracked.

Made numerous calls to the salesperson which went unanswered. Escalated to the office manger after weeks of not hearing back from the salesperson. Office staff had no record of the repair and after numerous calls the office staff claimed to not have any record of my request to repair the asphalt. Aftera month of calling the salesperson and the office a repair crew was sent to repair the asphalt and broken pavers in apron. Upon inspection the repair crew foremen informed us the asphalt needed so many repairs it should be removed and redone. The repair crew left without performing any repairs. After more weeks of calling the office said the owner would come and inspect the asphalt to determine if it could be repaired. Owner did not show-up on three separate occasions which lead me to fill this complaint.

I sent pictures to the office of all the items mentioned above.Desired Settlement: Replace the asphalt as indicted by the repair crew foremen

Repair the broken pavers in the apron

Repair the two broken inground sprinkler lines.

The owner of Atlas Asphalt met with [redacted] at his home a few days ago and they both decided that a heat & tamp on the areas that of the asphalt that are in question will fix these issues and then we will later perform a sealcoat on the entire driveway - both services of course at no charge to the customer. The owner wants to complete the heat and tamp himself so we will be contact with [redacted] and chose a day that is conducive for him to have this done in the next few weeks.
