Atlas Self Storage Reviews (1)

Review: Today is September 3, 2014 Atlas Self Storage on Babcock Blvd is guilty of false advertising and the manager of the facility readily admitted to it today.I booked a storage unit on line through Selfstorage.com for 5x5 unit. When I received the confirmation via email, it said a "FREE TRUCK IS AVAILABLE, CALL ###-###-#### to reserve it.I called the number and a man named [redacted] told me that the truck was NOT available on my move in date which would be Friday September 5th, 2014. I asked why and he said that they shared a truck with 3 other locations so it was not available for that day. I said to him --- but you add said a truck would be available and to call and reserve it. He told me I would have to call a week in advance to reserve a truck. I asked him how could I call and reserve a truck when I only went on-line yesterday to reserve it. He repeated that none was available for that day. I hung up and said I would report him for false advertising. A minute or two later I called back and asked for the next available date that the truck was available --- he told me Monday the 8th --- I told him fine, I would move Monday the 8th. He told me the hours it had to be picked up and returned. Then he asked what size unit I had reserved and I told him a 5x5 -- he said oh no----a truck was not available for a unit that small. Between the first time I contacted him and the second time I contacted him, I looked at their own add ----- IT SAID A TRUCK WAS AVAILABLE AND THA THE ONLY THIONG WAS THAT YOU WERE TO BE 21 AND HAVE A DRIVERS LISC and INSURANCE ETC ------ It made NO MENTION OF HOW BIG A SIZE OR SPACE YOU HAD TO RENT TO USE THE TRUCK----only that the truck could accommodate a 1-2 bedroom apartment.I asked him to speak to the mgr and he said he was the manager.I said then to admit to false advertising. He laughed and chucked and said, we are guilty of false advertising. Withthat I thanked him and told him I would be reporting this to a TV station and Dept of StateDesired Settlement: Pay for the truck I rent for the move OR Provide the truck as advertised

Response:

To Whom It May Concern,

This is a response in reference to complaint ID [redacted]. The customer who filed the complaint

brought forth an issue in regards to a moving truck that we, Atlas Self Storage, have the opportunity to

provide for tenants to help them move into their rented storage space. Atlas Self Storage is a small,

privately owned self storage business with three locations in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. While we

make a concerted effort to fulfill our customers’ needs, we unfortunately do not have the ability to carry

a fleet of trucks for our customers’ use. We have one truck that we use between all of our locations and,

as such, we require that certain guidelines be met by our customers so that they may use the truck. The

customer inquired about the truck for their requested move-in date of Friday, September 5th, 2014 and,

unfortunately, the truck was being used by one of our locations that day and it would be impossible for

the, truck to be at both locations at the same time. The customer hung up, called back, and then asked

for the next available date that the truck would be accessible for use. Monday, September 8th 2014 was

the next available date. The customer agreed to movein at that time-and more informationaboutthe

move-in was gathered at that time, including the size of the unit that was to be rented. It is at this time

that it came to be known that the customer intended to rent a five foot by five foot unit (the smallest). It

is our policy to not provide the truck for a 5x5 unit due to:

- The unit being so small that the items that are being stored can/should fit into the back of a

vehicle.

- Other customers taking advantage of our business’ goodwill to provide a truck for their movein

and, instead of storing items with us, rent a SxS space and use the truck to move from residence to

residence because it is a more economical option than renting directly from a truck rental service for the

day.

The customer also explained that they were browsing https:f/www.selfstorage.com and made a

reservation for their unit through that website. Atlas Self Storage is in no way, and never has been,

affiliated with httns://www.selfstorage.com. Selfstorage.com is a self storage aggregate website and

culls information from multiple self storage web portals to provide instant access to quick self storage

information. Atlas Self Storage’s website can be found on the internet at

https://www.atlasselfstorage.net.

Though this customer may have, personally, had a negative experience (as evidenced by this complaint)

it did not prevent them from coming to our North Hills location and move forward with renting a SxS

self storage space and becoming a tenant with us. It will be taken under advisement that our website

should explicitly detail that prospective customers should ask about the availability of a truck to help

them move into their storage unit(s). Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact

us by phone at ###-###-#### or by email at [redacted]

Sincerely,

Site Manager

Response:

It was not on the advertising WEB SITE that the claim was made that a TRUCK WAS AVAILABLE for Moving in ----- IT WAS ON ATLAS SELF STORAGES OWN WEBSITE THAT IT SAID A TRUCK WAS AVAILABLE TO MOVE IN ---------------- AS STATED BEFORE ALL IT SAID WAS THA THE DRIVER HAD TO BE 21 YEAR OLD------------ NO MENTION OF THE SIZE OF THE SPACE YOU HAD TO RENT TO GET THE TRUCK----------------ONLY THAT YOU HAD TO BE 21 YEARS OLD-----------------AGAIN I REPEAT, THAT WAS ON THE ATLAS STORAGE SITE. So they are still guilty of FALSE ADVERTISING. It is not my issue that it is a small business, FALSE ADVERTISING IS FALSE ADVERTISING. And yes, I moved it toating all my crap WHAT ELSE WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH IT----------------------- 6 car loads----------The light did not work in the unit when I moved in----------------and now 3 weeks later it still does npot work ------and YES ATLAS does know about it----------------the woman that was there the day I moved in said she would look for another switch so the light could be turned on, but came back with nothing.
