Hi, [redacted]. We appreciate the time we were able to serve your family.  I regret you were unsatisfied with how your mother’s residency ended.  We strive at all times to meet our residents’ needs but state law constrains the services we are able to provide. Because this is a public...

forum, I am unable to discuss the private details concerning your mother. However, please feel free to contact [redacted] at [redacted] to discuss the situation in detail.  Respectfully, [redacted] [redacted]

Review: My husband ([redacted]) became a residence at Carmichael Oaks (the secured memory care unit) on July 19, 2015. On July 19th, my daughter ([redacted]) went to the facility to visit her dad. When she went into her Dad’s room, he was upset due to he had fallen and he felt like it took an aide a long to time respond to the alarm he had sounded.

On July 24th, my husband fell again in the evening. This time, the paramedic (called by someone at Carmichael Oaks) called my daughter and wanted authorization to transport my husband to the hospital. My daughter contacted me (I was in a nursing home recovering from hip replacement surgery) and I had to talk to the paramedic to decline transporting my husband to the hospital. I had talked to my husband and he too had said it did not need to be seen by a doctor.

On July 26th, my husband fell again and was transported to the hospital without authorization from either my daughter or myself. When my daughter contacted Carmichael Oaks, they advised her to give them additional numbers so she could be easily contacted. My daughter informed them I would be coming home from the nursing home on Monday (July 2th) and they already had my home phone number. When my husband returned from the hospital later that evening, he called my daughter to say he was okay and my daughter could hear someone in the background telling him what to say.

On July 28th, my daughter went to the facility to see her Dad. At this time, my daughter (was told by [redacted]) that her Dad had escaped the memory unit which we were told was a secure unit. [redacted] told my daughter my husband was able to go out this secured door (which sounded the alarm), exit the building, run down the long driveway, cross a busy street ([redacted]), climb up some stairs, fall down, and someone then finally caught my husband when he became too tired to run anymore. [redacted] also told my daughter my husband was almost hit by a car when he crossed the street and we were “lucky” this did not happen. When my daughter questioned how her Dad could get so far away from the memory care unit, [redacted] said he was a fast runner and she was sore from chasing him. (I am not sure how my husband could be a fast runner as he has advanced Parkinson’s with mild dementia.) [redacted] then told my daughter her Dad was again taken to the hospital because he was agitated.

Neither my daughter nor I had been called regarding my husband escaping the memory care unit and facility. I had selected the memory unit for the safety factor and this obviously did not happen. My daughter was able to take her Dad home from the hospital and no one from Carmichael Oaks has contacted me since this incident occurred.Desired Settlement: I did request a refund for the entire amount I paid them $10,212.12,but instead, they want to keep the money I paid and they sent me another bill in the amount of $4,665.00.
