Review: Notice Number [redacted] Rental Agreement [redacted] I never use rental car automated toll systems and always pay cash for tolls. The system in the car must have been charging tolls without my knowledge. Even IF I was using the system, the $90 service fee (1000%) fee is unethical and absurd. There was no effort to reach me and I received a notice in the mail only days prior to my debit card being charged.Desired Settlement: Refund the $99.50 and I may consider renting from Dollar again....

Response:

Dear[redacted], Thank you for contacting us regarding your concern. It is our goal to provide you with excellent customer service. Dollar offers an optional Platepass service for a small daily fee. As your rental was not opted in to this service and if you did not close the transponder box, you can be charged a $15 admin fee per toll. You have the option of opting in to the Platepass program at any point before, during, or after your rental agreement. As a onetime courtesy we have refunded the $99.50 charge which you should see on your card in 3-5 business days. Should you receive any charges in the future that you need additional information on you may contact our Customer Service number at ###-###-####. Again, thank you for contacting us and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Review: I received a notice from this company indicating that I received a speed violation in [redacted]. on the day of my rental. I contest that I was indeed exceeding the speed limit on the date indicated. The notice indicates that I can go online to view the violation. I did - the website indicates that "this citation was issued to us electronically. There is no image available." I tried going to the ** DMV website. It also has no proof of the violation - just that I was allegedly going 16-20 mph over the speed limit on a certain road.

How am I supposed to plead guilty to a criminal infraction - exceeding the speed limit - when no proof is available? I attempted to resolve this matter by calling ATS Processing Services. However, when I tried to talk to a real person, the recording indicated that "due to unforeseen circumstances" I couldn't talk to anyone. It referred me back online.

This is a violation of my due process rights. Pay the $125 fine - which will be automatically removed from my bank account tomorrow - or, if you want, try to fight the ** government - but we won't give you any proof to fight the charges. Explain how I am given the necessary process to challenge these unfounded charges.Desired Settlement: I want ATS to waive the violation, and ensure that this record does not impact my driving record.

ATS has made a one-time courtesy adjustment on your account regarding citation [redacted], issued from the [redacted]. Notices of violations are provided to ATS electronically from this Issuing Authority and can be obtained by contacting ** directly. However, there should not be any charges received for this violation and we hope you find the issue to be closed.

Review: I rented a [redacted] car due to being rear-ended at the fault of the other driver. I had the rental car for approx. a month and just traveled locally between my house and work, about a 10 minute drive away. I returned my rental car and my insurance company paid for the whole thing since I wasn't at fault for the accident. About a month after returning the car I was reviewing my credit card statement and noticed at $78 fee from a company called "[redacted]." I never authorized them to charge my card in the first place but secondly I never even went through a toll. All of the charges were for a location about an hour from my house/job. I have been fighting for over a month now to get a refund. I put in a credit card dispute and alerted my insurance company. They do not have enough proof that it wasn't me who went through the toll, even though I provided an email from my manager stating that I do not live or work near the tolls. I provided them a credit card statement. I hope it will work.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting PlatePass with your inquiry.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. You were refunded in full, in the amount of $78.75 on August 14th, 2013.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Best Regards,

Dollar rental charged me a administration fee of $45 for a $3.70 toll, which I didn't pay because there was no cash booth. I am happy to pay both the toll cost and a reasonable collection fee, but $45. That is a scam. They lost my business and every friend and relative I can talk to.

Review: I rented a car from [redacted] rental car Company at [redacted] in January and this company PlatePass billed me $33.60 thru the rental car agency for toll booths. They charged me $5 a day for toll booths and I didn't even drive the car on the road for 4 out of the 6 days. They got the $ from me thru the rental car company against my consent. Now they are sending me more bills and invoices in the mail telling me I still owe them $. This is not right. I drove 60 miles 1 way on 1 day and then returned on the same road 5 days later and they are telling me I owe them $50 for that. They are threatening to turn me into collections and I feel I shouldn't have paid them the $33 but I did and now they say I owe them $10 more.

Product_Or_Service: Toll Roads

Account_Number: [redacted]Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

They shouldn't be sending me bills and I don't think I should have to pay the $33 that the [redacted] rental car took from me. I talk to [redacted] and they say "sorry sir but you have to call Platepass it was part of your agreement", I call PlatePass and they say "sorry sir you have to call [redacted]". $41 for tolls for driving 60 miles thru Texas is absolutely ridiculous. I want my money back and I shouldn't have to pay the $8.01.. I still believe [redacted] took adva

Regards,

While this business appears to be providing a needed service, the way it is going about it is wrong. I rented a car for 6 days starting in Las Vegas, no toll roads, and drove it to Colorado and back. In those 6 days, I was on a toll road for a total of 30 minutes without the option of paying for my toll with cash. Because of this, this company charged my credit card a per day charge for the entire rental period, not just the one day their service was actually used. They tell you a boiler plate line that it is in your contract but you are not given an opportunity to actually read the contract when renting the car. I was refunded the additional days THIS TIME but was told that no further refunds would be issued. This is a great service when you need it but in my case, it is wrong to charge for the other days where the service was not used.

This is a "legal" SCAM, roughly equivalent to payday loans, with the exception being that - unlike payday loan services - they have managed to associate themselves with reputable rental car companies like [redacted], and worse then payday loans in regards to the cost per dollar managed.

I rented a car from [redacted] for a week in Florida, in that time accumulated $4.20 in tolls, and was charged a $24.75 administrative fee (4.95 / day). So their "fee" in my case was approximately 500% of the charges they were managing for me. It is unconscionable that this company actually has the gall to make these charges, and equally unconscionable that a company like [redacted] would agree to use them as a service provider and pass these outrageous charges on to their customers. I have lodged complaints not only with PlatePass, but also with [redacted] for doing business with them.

The last three times I have rented a car it has been through [redacted] and it has been [redacted]. On all 3 occasions I have received a bill stated that I owed a $30 administrative fee for a toll road charge. I had not been on a toll road and had not received a toll road charge yet [redacted] Processing Services still billed me $30. It is a scam and someone needs to do something about it.

Charged me for toll that I paid for on line. Have receipt to prove it. They provide a phone number - machine only. They say go on line to dispute - no link on web site, could not even find the word dispute on the website. Had to just dispute payment with my CC company.

Review: I received a Toll Charge Notice from [redacted]. After following directions given for dispute resolution, I could not submit the copy of response from the issuing authority where they stated that no such vehicle plate number was in their system. The proof of the billing error could not be sent because ATS' website would not take the information fields as they required (telephone calls don't work either!!). This is a problem with their equipment/system that should be corrected immediately. Additionally, similar difficulties occurred in contacting both [redacted] and [redacted]. One would think that if these business' are going to send out charges for electronically recorded violations, that they would be readily accessible. The whole thing smacks of SCAM! Most folks would probably not even be aware of these types of charges occurring after having already paid the bills for their rental cars.Desired Settlement: To have all parties involved in this type of billing extend the response time for dispute resolution before applying charges against a renters credit cards. Also, to have everyone of those entities, monitor their websites for correctness of access & contact numbers &/or addresses. Consumers receiving notices & charges, should have a simplified method available to contact all businesses involved in the billing process.

Dear [redacted],

Thank you for contacting us regarding your concern. It is our goal to provide you with excellent customer service and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We have researched your account and determined that the toll charges in question were the result of a technical error. This error has since been resolved and we have adjusted your account for the full amount of $32.60. The account is now closed and reflects a $0 balance.

Again, thank you for contacting us and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Absolute joke of a company. Was charged after I paid my toll within 30 minutes of going through. After sending the receipt proving I paid the toll. I was told it would take 10 business days to refund money. When 10 days passed no refund. I called, and apparently I was sent a phantom email explaining the receipt wasn't good enough. I needed to send over a screen shot of my computer. After sending that 10 more days passed, and still no refund. When calling in again. I asked to speak with a supervisor, but none were available and their return call when come within 48 hours. Whatever you DO, DO NOT rent a car that provides this joke of a company!!!

Review: I rented a [redacted] car and drove through many tolls, where I paid by cash, not using the Electronic "Easy Pass" system. When I reached the [redacted] Bridge connecting northern Manhattan to the Bronx, there was NO OPTION to pay by cash, and ONLY the electronic, no-stop, camera toll. I received a bill from PlatePass for the $5. toll PLUS what they term "Administrative Charges" for an additional $24.75, bringing the $5. toll charge to approximately $30. I found this outrageous, since I did not voluntarily opt to use their service, but was given no option at this bridge. I find this company scammed me, as it is not an option to float your automobile over a river, to avoid their unethical "Administrative Charges".

I will not be using [redacted] again, and feel PlatePass is a scam, and the worst example of unethical business practices. I do not mind paying the $5. toll, but to be charged $29.75, unwittingly is unfair, unethical and outrageous!Desired Settlement: Cancel the $24.75 "Administrative Fee".

Review: I already filed an online complain for an unexplained toll charges to no avail. I was asking for proof of the charges: completely ignored! It is not for the $30 dollar, it matter of principle, in 40 a plus year in business I never miss to pay anything, and I do not see myself run a tool boot without pay for it!Desired Settlement: After proof of unpaid Toll I will reserve my right to complain with [redacted] / [redacted].

Review: A month ago I rented a car from Advantage Rental Car in [redacted], [redacted]. Yesterday (8/21) an authorized charge was made to my [redacted] card listed as toll fees. After searching online for the merchant it appears I am one of many people that have rented a car and got mixed up in what appears to be a scam. My representative at Advantage failed to mention anything about plate pass, if they had I would have declined as I did not to my knowledge travel on any toll roads or having any desire to do so during my trip. Moreover, I was not informed that any third party would be given my credit card information. I have received no billing information on why I am being charged from Advantage or ATS. I want my credit card information removed from ATS and the recent charge to my account by ATS refunded. How it is legal to charge someone for something without their consent and without notification as to why they are being charged is beyond me. It is clear this company has made an agreement with rental car companies to hide their relationship, give people the run around, and rip off customers hoping that they will either miss the charges made to their accounts or get frustrated with trying to get to the bottom of why they were charged and give up. These are shameful business practices, plain and simple.Desired Settlement: Refund of unauthorized charge to my credit card.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I was not verbally informed of this policy. It is ludicrous to assume people read these 30+ page documents filled with legalese when they are on vacation and waiting in a rental car line with dozens of people behind them. Of course, this is exactly what companies like yours count on, which is why there should be laws against these types of practices. People should be verbally notified and should be offered the ability to opt out of these programs (class action lawsuit, anyone?). I assure you if I had been verbally notified that I could be charged $25 dollars for driving on a highway once during my stay I would have opted out of PlatePass or chosen a different rental car agency. I will be sure to tell everyone I know to ask if their rental car agency uses the PlatePass system or has any connection with ATS Processing and if so to avoid renting from them at all costs (for anyone reading this, avoid Advantage Car Rental as they use both!). And I can assure you I will not be renting again from any car rental company that has any affiliation with PlatePass or ATS processing. Being automatically opted into a program that charges $25 for using a highway once, is quite literally highway robbery! Car renters everywhere beware, and call and ask about these affiliations before you rent from any car rental agency online!!Completely unsatisfied,[redacted]

Review: PlatePass mount their equipment on the rental car without fully disclosing the cost and it's not that clear that their service is not associated to the rental car company. There's no invoice sent to you but a charge directly on your credit card a week after your rental is over so it's very sneaky. When calling their toll free service number I can't speak to a human being and the system asks you to go to their website to find your invoice. The charge on mine is $3.50 for the toll and $19.80 for the administrative fee. This really looks like a scam to me because if you ask anybody whether they want to pay almost $20 just to save a 1 min to 2 min wait time then 99% of the drivers will say no. However, none of that is properly disclosed on the car or when renting the vehicle.Desired Settlement: The comapny should refund the high administrative fee of $19.80 that they charged twice to me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The practice performed by PlatePass in conjunction with the rental car company is deceptive in the sense that 1) it doesn't disclose this information when you make a reservation online, which most people do these days; 2) when I picked up the car from [redacted], either directly from the parking lot or from the counter, not a single person ever mentioned anything about PlatePass, I've been traveling for 15 years and nobody ever said anything about PlatePlass or similar service when I pick up the car; 3) as mentioned below, the equipment on the rental car fail to disclose pricing information.

Regards,

Extremely high prices for toll services and this should be against the law. I had my own tag to boot and theyre still billing me. Put it right onto my credit card. Ripoff. Tolls don't cost that much. With all of the negative reviews by customers, how does Revdex.com give them an A+ rating?

ATS Notice [redacted]7

[redacted] rental agreement #8Q0192592

RMCB #8Q0192592

I received on April 12, 2016 letter from RMCB asking for a payment of $112.68 you are trying to collect on behalf of your client, [redacted], who authorized you to collect traffic violations committed by the company’s customers. The rental agreement in question was from July 30, 2015 through August 2, 2015. According to my business records and receipts from [redacted], I was never at or around the toll facilities (Indiana Toll Road) described in the original request from ATS Processing Services. You, ATS, tried to charge my [redacted] card twice for those alleged toll violations and the charges were declined by Amex. At the time when those violations supposedly occurred, I was at work in Indianapolis or at a business dinner which I can easily prove with a credit card receipt. The alleged toll violations and the attempts made by you, ATS, are a scam trying to collect money from unsuspicious [redacted] customers which has been proven repeatedly according to information obtained from the Revdex.com website.

I respectfully request from you to verify all records with [redacted] and stop RMCB from sending me harassing letters for violations I never committed. In case you decide to continue pursuing this, I will contact the FTC, the Maryland State Attorney Office, and the Baltimore City Attorney General Office and file a complaint with them. I also reserve the right to contact my attorney and if necessary, bring you, ATS, RMCB and [redacted] to court. I tried to search your website for photos of the alleged toll violations but could not find any. In the meantime, I would appreciate if you mail to me those photos WITH DATE AND TIME STAMP clearly visible on each one.

I will also send correspondence in this matter to RMCB and [redacted] with copies of this letter.

Respectfully

[redacted]Desired Settlement: Apology letter stating that I do not owe any money because there was an error ; letter stating that there will be no report to any of the credit rating agencies

Review: A rental car was secured with [redacted] upon arrival to Denver International Airport on April 16, 2016. The usual paperwork was vaguely reviewed to include: driver's license verification, insurance needs, gas preference, and type/size of car. Upon leaving DIA (in a snow storm which is a whole other story of poor customer service) the only way into Denver was to pass through tolls. Denver does not offer the option to pay cash, rather they are cameras. Of course, we are new to the area and not familiar with the toll system. NO ONE MENTIONED at all in the paperwork prep about tolls and how [redacted] handled them. Even upon our return there was no mention how the process occurs but knew we would be charged, most likely on our credit card, for the tolls but TO MY DISMAY, I received a bill from the company noted for the $35 in tolls (to and from the airport mainly)BUT also along with $165 administrative fees!!!!!! This is price gouging! This is an absorbent amount for administrative fees when there is no real labor involved. How can a company charge this amount for administrative fees? I am sure they are going to say I signed the rental agreement noting I agreed with this but how can a company get by with not making this more aware to customers and provide options up front not to mention the extensive administrative fee amount. Attached is the itemized bill for the charges including the toll charges along with the printed online reservations. I have the rental agreement in my car which is being repaired at the current time. This is appalling. I have sent a complaint to the corporate headquarters as well, but have no way to contact this business directly as the web site and number only directs you to payment options. Oh, and please note they were "gracious" and gave me a "$65" discount!!!! Really?Desired Settlement: To be charged a reasonable administrative fee along with the $35 toll charges. Reasonable percentage based on administrative cost involved.

Review: I rented a car from Thrify at O'Hare airport on 2/15/16. I specifically declined the toll box for my rental. However, there was a toll box in the car when I arrived at the vehicle. I placed the box in the glove box since I had no intention of using it. When I tried to pay for the first toll with cash, I was told I must have a toll pass in the car. The box had slid open enough in the glove box to read the pass. I called American Traffic Solutions to report the problem and was told I would have to pay almost $16 to resolve the matter. I appealed to a supervisor, but received a case closed notification in the amount of $43.96. Even after describing the extraordinary steps I took to prevent use of this horrible product, they insisted I pay $16 for their problem. I obviously feel this is not a fair and equitable solution to this problem.Desired Settlement: Refund of the amount charged to my credit card less the $1.50 I actually owe for the toll I tried to pay with cash.
