ATS Processing Services Reviews (1313)

Review: I rented a car from [redacted] (rental agreement number [redacted] in [redacted] on June 16, 2014. I returned the car to the same location on June 24, 2014. Later I received a charge for $95 to my credit card from this company, operating as "Platepass.com". This company process automatic toll charges for [redacted]. Supposedly, there was an automatic toll device on the rear view mirror of my car; I looked at my car carefully when I had it; unless the device is very tiny (say, smaller than the size of a pack of matches), there was NO SUCH DEVICE in my car. Platepass claims that I incurred tolls in many places, for a total of $95 including service charge; I was in NONE of those places. I called Platepass to try to convince them to reverse the charge. While this is a free call from the US, but I live overseas; it is not a free call. Their phone system is impossible; it takes almost 4 minutes of confusing menus to get in line to talk to someone. When I finally spoke to someone, he said that they would check things out and get back to me in one week. Nobody got back to me, so I called them again. I was told that THEORETICALLY I could have driven to all of those places, and that they say there is nothing wrong with the automatic toll device (WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN IN SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR), therefore I must prove that I was in none of those places in order to pay. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was refused; "they are all in a meeting". I was told to send receipts to [redacted]; I did the best I could, which was to send relevant credit card charges. I was promised that my e-mail to [redacted] would be acknowledged; it was NOT. I sent two reminders; these were not acknowledged. I was promised that a supervisor would contact me; NOBODY contacted me. I have waited more than one week and still I have not been credited for the false toll charges. In the meantime, I have disputed the charge with my credit card company, which has issued a temporary credit.Desired Settlement: I should be issued a full refund.

They really should do something about their terrible customer service.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

While the business has shown the charge as refunded in my account on their website (so that there is a zero balance in the account), they have NOT issued a credit to my credit card company! I checked this with my credit card company early this morning. So the charge (which I previously disputed with the credit card company) has now appeared again on my credit card. Therefore, this dispute has not been resolved -- just the opposite, they claim to have resolved the dispute, but I am still out the money.

Review: Billed me a $30 admin fee to provide my name and address to the toll roads Violation Department in southern Cali. I paid the toll in full and toll authorithy waived their fees. The Admin charger by [redacted] is unreadable. It is price of renting a car for the day. They also informed their toll plate does not work in in LA county after the violation. I rented the car in LA, and I told them where I was staying.Desired Settlement: Waive the $30 Admin fee for providing the toll authorithy my name and address. That is the cost of doing business for [redacted].

Business

Response:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your concern as it is our goal to provide you with excellent customer service. The $30.00 administrative fee has been waived as a onetime courtesy. Please allow up to 5 business days for this to appear on your account and thank you for your patience. It is our hope that you find this matter to be resolved. Best Regards,ATS Processing Services

Review: Dollar rent a car alleges I owe $65.00 which consists of $5.00 in unpaid tolls and $60.00 IN ADMINISTRATIVE FEES. Tolls were supposedly incurred on a toll rd near [redacted] and there was absolutely no way to pay in cash which I would have been happy to do.Desired Settlement: I will be happy to pay the tolls, but not the administrative fees which are totally absurd in relation to the toll amount.

Response:

Dear Customer,

Review: This company sent me a list of toll and administrative charges for Florida toll locations I have never visited. In fact, based upon the total mileage driven during the [redacted] Car Rental period, it would have been impossible for me to have been where these tolls occurred. I drove from Orlando to Jacksonville to Cocoa Beach to Orlando over an 8 day period (a mimimum of 430 miles) for a total distance (including local travel) of 642 miles. In order to have also driven to Homestead, Florida (where these tolls occurred) would have required a minimum of [redacted] miles without any local driving at all. I have tried repeatedly to submit a dispute but their website will not accept my explanation nor any documents proving where I was during the rental car period. For reference the [redacted] Rental Agreement NUmber is [redacted]. The Notice Number is [redacted]Desired Settlement: I request a letter clearing me of all of these erroneous charges.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I reject ATS Processing Services’ response. A refund does not solve the underlying issue; that is, why ATS demanded money for tolls that I did not incur in a part of the country I have never visited. Furthermore ATS's actions do nothing to mitigate the stress I and my wife have endured due to ATS's demands. I request ATS provide the following information:

1) Why did ATS charge me for tolls I did not incur?

2) What error was made and by whom?

3) What has ATS done to prevent this from happening again to me or anyone else?

4) Who gave ATS my credit card information so they could incorrectly charge me for tolls without my permission?

5) When does ATS process the automatic credit card charge relative to the letter being mailed to the customer demanding payment?

ATS’s actions ruined this Florida vacation and every future vacation for me and my wife. Instead of fond memories of our recent vacation, we spent hours researching and downloading our credit card and bank statements then trying in vain to submit our reply with attachments to ATS, whose website wiped out all of our data with a statement to the effect, “We are unable to process your request. Please try again later.” Now when I take vacations I know when I return I could find another letter from ATS demanding payment for tolls I did not incur. Now I will have to start keeping receipts for all transactions while on vacation to prove I could not have been where ATS claims I was. As a 61-year old Disabled Veteran, ATS’s actions have caused me and my wife undue stress that cannot be repaired by simply providing a refund.

Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your concern. It is our goal to provide you with excellent customer service and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The tolls reported to ATS by the Florida DOT were captured on video and assigned to license plate number[redacted]. After researching the account, we determined that an error was made as that license plate is assigned to a [redacted]’s computer system but the vehicle in the images was a White Nissan.

ATS receives all rental information electronically from the rental agencies and while we are not aware why the license plate file was not updated, we have made [redacted] aware of the discrepancy with this plate.

Your signed rental agreement states that [redacted] employs ATS, a third party processing company, to handle any tolls, parking, or traffic citations on their behalf and that the renter of the vehicle will be responsible for all charges and processing fees via the credit card used to secure the rental.

We allow 15 days from the mailing date of our notices for the renter to submit a different form of payment before the credit card on file is charged. Our notices also list our toll-free customer service phone number and website should customers have any questions or disputes regarding their invoice. Disputes are sent to our skilled research team and, if found valid, refunded within 5 business days.

Again, thank you for contacting us and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Best Regards,

This company collects tolls for rental car agencies allegedly from data from toll agencies from various states. In my experience, the information is not just marginally inaccurate, it is grossly inaccurate. Resolving a discrepancy is near impossible.

Review: This company has fraudulently charged me tolls I have never traveled on between 2/12/14 and 2/16/14 in the amount of $81.47. They refuse to prove that I traveled on these roads with a rental car from [redacted] and instead I have to prove my whereabout for 24 hours a day during those days in question to prove I was not on those roads. That is insane and unreasonable. They submit charges to my credit card which was given to them by the [redacted] and make claims of travel on toll roads that I have never travelled on.Desired Settlement: I want this company to refund my credit card company [redacted] in the amount of $81.47 for the fraudulent toll charges that they charged on my credit card.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted], After reviewing the details of your inquiry, we have determined the charge in the amount of $81.73 was for tolls accessed during your rental period of 2/12/14 18:08-2/16/14 14:58, as well as for the use of the electronic toll payment service offered by [redacted]® while under rental agreement [redacted]. Our records show you made contact with our office on 5/5/14 to dispute the toll charges and your dispute was reviewed by our research department the same day. Please note it is our normal process to request documentation when the toll mileage is less than the miles driven by the renter. The transponder linked to the vehicle you rented has not yet been reported lost, and the toll authorities reported tolls to us as being accessed with that transponder during your rental period. This is why we typically ask for some other way to prove the renter was not in the area of the tolls. As a courtesy, we have removed all charges on this account. Please allow 3-5 business days for your refund to process to the credit card on file. [redacted] offers the [redacted]® service for $4.95 per rental day ($24.75 max per rental month), plus tolls if [redacted]® is activated during your rental period. The details surrounding the [redacted]® service are contained on page 3 of your rental contract. [redacted]® is an automated electronic toll payment service that enables rental car customers to use high-speed, cashless toll lanes to avoid having to stop and pay tolls with cash. We are committed to providing the highest level of customer service and apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused. Review: I rented a car from [redacted] at the Detroit Michigan airport for six days in April 15-21. During this time I recorded 60 miles on the rental according to the [redacted].com invoice. This company charged my American Express card $34.65 for toll charges that it says were from Illinois more than 200 miles from where I rented and returned my rental car. Online research has revealed that this company engages in deceptive and fraudulent billing practices based on hundreds of complaints and legal actions taken against them.Desired Settlement: I expect that this company will issue a refund for charges to my American Express bill and cease and decist with all fraudlent charges to my future car rentals and those of other consumers being RIPPED OFF by this company.

Response:

Dear [redacted], Based on research, it appears the transponder linked to your rental vehicle may have been placed into another vehicle or lost; We have refunded your charge in full. Review: So this should be a common complaint for Platepass since I found multiple entries online after it happened to me. When I rented from [redacted], nobody was telling me about how I should go through the tolls to opt out the Platepass thing and I thought it will be OK to just pay by mail by myself at [redacted]. However, later I found that this is not possible and the fine print in the contract says I have to go through cash to avoid this. Again, NO ONE TOLD ME THAT WHEN I RENTED THE CAR.

Later I was charged $31.25 for [redacted] toll, which includes a ridiculous $24.75 "administrative fee" for every day of my rent including days I'm DEFINITELY NOT USING THE SERVICE (I know, it's in the fine print, but again, no one told me so when I'm renting, there is no "pay-by-mail" way to opt out, and no reasonable person will drive through one single toll in a 15-day car rent if s/he was told the terms).

And there is something more infuriating: according the contract, the rate for the toll is "Toll Authority's cash toll rate or highest undiscounted toll rate", which means Platepass charged $6.50, the "Pay by mail" rate for [redacted]. So it's an electronic payment at a rate higher than what I can pay later online by myself if there was no Platepass, and it was there "for my convenience"?

Last question, didn't I need to agree explicitly to release my credit card information to any third party instead of stuffing all those names in the fine print?Desired Settlement: Due to [redacted] failing to provide such knowledge during the renting process and the ridiculously unconscionable content in fine print , I demand refund on the ridiculous "administrative fee". Although such charge is already high even on a daily basis, I would accept a daily rate it if it's charged only on the day I "used" Platepass.

I find an administrative fee of $30 for a toll road violation while I was in my rental car (and unaware I was even on a toll road) to be excessive. The toll road entity itself, charged $2.50.

And the fact, the amount is deducted from my credit card without any due process or discussion, equally offensive. I will never use Dollar Rental again in the hopes of avoiding ATS Processing as well.

The whole scam is a ripoff aimed at consumers who will not protest.

Review: I rented a car from Dollar/Thrifty on March 14-March 16, 2015. On March 16, the vehicle was assessed a toll of $0.26 on [redacted] in [redacted]. A third-party company named Dollar Processing Services / [redacted].[redacted] (actual zip code is [redacted]; [redacted] is not accepted by Revdex.com's system) paid the fee of $0.26, then added a $15 administrative fee, requiring payment of $15.26 by 4/17/2015 (notice number [redacted]). I contacted Dollar Processing Services on the date that I received the notice, 4/10, and told the two agents that I'd be happy to pay the $0.26 toll and a small administrative fee for the postage, but refused to pay $15 (and declined an offer to pay a discounted $7.50 instead) on a $0.26 phantom toll. Had I known or been notified of the toll, I'd have paid it myself. Dollar/Thrifty offers customers a toll payment transponder in their vehicles for a daily fee (which most people would probably decline), then in the contract's fine print tells customers that any tolls received will be paid and hit with a $15 fee. They don't provide the customer the option to be kept in the loop about phantom tolls, e.g., Florida's toll roads that lack payment booths. Dollar/Thrifty is not clear about this 'service' and Dollar/Thrifty and Dollar Processing Services are -- in honest terms -- scamming customers by engaging in this practice.I'm happy to pay for the toll (even though the State of Florida should have a better system for tourists), but I refuse to pay Dollar Processing Services $15 administrative fee on principle. I have no doubt this scam will run its natural course and eventually be shut down.Desired Settlement: I'll pay no more than $1 for the toll and the fee combined. $0.26 for the toll and $0.74 for postage and as a consolation prize to Dollar Processing Services.

Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting us regarding your concern. It is our goal to provide you with excellent customer service. We apologize for any misunderstanding. Many locations in Florida have switched to cashless tolling and we understand you may have been unaware of travelling on a cashless toll road. Review: I rented a vehicle from [redacted] in Orlando. Afterward I received from this company a notice of toll charges that I did not incur. The notice itemized the proper rental agreement number with a car and license plate number that do not match the vehicle I rented. Beyond the obviously incompetent data management, billing practices and mail fraud, it is nuisance for customers like myself to waste time correcting ATS who employs such poor record keeping and procedures.Desired Settlement: A billing correction which indicates the improperly billed amount is settled in full, and an apology.

Completely inefficient and frustratingly ineffective customer service. No transparency at all. Even though all parties involved know what the simple mistake was, and have multiple records to prove it, they still say that their hands are tied in charging a toll + administrative fee due to "Guidelines". A license plate was off by one letter - they know it, the Toll organization knows it, yet they refuse to rectify the problem. I asked for a conference call with both parties to get on the same page, but was refused.

Review: On 12/07/2013 I rented a car from [redacted] in [redacted]. I had brought my own [redacted] with me for the $4.00 in total tolls I would be incurring. I was told nothing of "[redacted]" by [redacted], and had rented from [redacted] in the past with no problems. I used my [redacted] through the 4 toll booths passed during the whole trip. I received my CC statement and a charge for $28.75. $4.00 for tolls and a $24.75 "administrative" fee. I have contacted [redacted] twice through email and have gotten no response. From now on when I visit my [redacted] home I will ask the rental agency if they use this "service" beforehand and steer clear if they do. The [redacted] information must be buried in fine print. I will not be misled again.

Review: I rented a vehicle from [redacted] DBA A[redacted] franchise operator in [redacted] under rental agreement [redacted] Rent A Toll an ATS Fleet Services Division is charging my credit card $31.98 for toll charges that I did not go through in south florida on Nov 23rd and Nov 29th, 2015 I did not take the car in that direction.

Per my rental agreement, I declined Rent A Toll / ATS Tolling prepaid toll program and assumed responsibility for all toll charges incurred during the rental period.

In the event that any alleged violations were received by the registered owner of the vehicle or their third party administrator said parties would need to provide the accused ample notice and an the opportunity to contest the alleged violations in the proper venue.

If the registered owner of the vehicle or their third party administrator fails to notify the accused and instead opts to pre-pay any fines then that is their right with respect to the matter however any payments tendered would become the sole responsibility of the registered owner of the vehicle as this process removes the accused's rights to due process (5th amendment) and right to confront your accuser (Confrontation Clause 6th amendment) which are guaranteed rights under the US Constitution.

Any contractual clause or agreement which preempts due process and forces a consumer to waive rights guaranteed under the US constitution is a nullity, unenforceable and void on it's face.Desired Settlement: I respectfully request that your refund department remove the complete balance for the amount of $31.98 which was automatically charged to my credit card.

Please carefully consider the facts underlying this matter and advise if your refund department will consider refunding the complete balance in the amount of $31.98 to my credit card ending in 6800. Thank you for your time and consideration with this matter.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] I refunded your account in full on 01/19/16. Please note that the tolls were during your rental and our company has paid for them.

I was charged by PlatePass for using the box in a hertz car when I did not. I paid the toll online and had a reciept to prove it. That was in June. It is now November and although they removed the Administrative Fee, they havent removed the toll fee. I have emailed them proof as requested months ago but never heard back. They keep telling me they put my account in review every time I call, which is twice a month or more...for the past four months. Its not the money but the principal. Also they keep you on the line forever.

Review: The company falsely charged my card for a toll and a processing fee. I did not go through any tolls, I was not aware the company had my credit information. I am positive that I did not go through a toll.Desired Settlement: I would like the company to refund me my 26.50. The total includes a false toll charge and a processing fee.

Review: I never received one notice of violation until some "law office" contacted me stating I hadn't responded to two notices. I contacted the "[redacted]" office supposedly located in Tempe, AZ and they were kind and they emailed me the original notice and verified my address, which was correct. I contacted my US Postal mail carrier and they had no idea why I wouldn't receive it as I was receiving all my other mail with no issues.

Red Light enforcement allowed me to send in a notarized letter electronically stating I had not received the original notice and they resubmitted it. I, again, did not receive anything by mail, but by email again AFTER I contacted them again. I requested a hearing by email which they received. I never received anything in the mail yet again. I emailed them on July 9 to inquire about not hearing about a hearing and they informed me the hearing was scheduled for July 8, I had already missed it (I just received this email response on 7-11) and there was nothing they could do since I failed to show.

I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS HEARING. I have not received one single letter or notice, or any communication via regular mail, despite checking my mail box literally every single day we receive mail. I am a law abiding citizen and would not have missed a hearing. I DO NOT RECEIVE MAIL FROM THIS TEMPE OFFICE. Again, they have the correct address but obviously a business practice is not sending the mail to me. I talked AGAIN to my mail carrier a few moments ago and she insists I get all my mail she receives.

I can't be the only one, particularly since they do have my correct address that this happens to.

I still have all the email correspondence between myself and them. I did ask for an electronic copy of the hearing which was never answered to or responded to....so of course this happens.

Please assist me in finding out if they have other issues like this and what I can do???? I would have gone to the hearing had I known about it! Awful business practice which leaves persons being left without options.Desired Settlement: Complete dismissal (violation notice 0711201521590)- I contest the notice anyway, but because of all the trouble I have gone through and time spent in trying to handle this appropriately, I need this dismissed.
