Attention to Detail Home Improvements & Repairs Reviews (4)

Tell us why here...Please let me begin by apologizing for Mrs. Vrabel’s experience.  Our only goal when we began this job was to install her vent and her light fixture and to leave her with a positive experience.  Clearly that did not happen.  We have written off her invoice and wish her the best of luck with her future contractors.

Character assassination does not change the fact that the contractor damaged the cooktop and is not taking responsibility for any of the issues with this job. I tried to stick to just the facts. I feel he was angry because I called him out on damaging the unit and not wanting to use his repairman. He NEVER OFFERED TO PAY FOR ANYTHING REGARDING REPAIRS. The person he suggested is not a certified Viking repair man, as I called Viking and gave them his name and they verified he is not certified to work on a Viking unit. I also gave the contractors wife the Viking number to verify this. I am the one who offered to pay half of the Viking repair, I thought that was generous on my part. I did not damage the unit. When we left the house in the morning the cooktop was perfectly fine. When I came home it was damaged. Why on earth would I concoct a plan to have work done just so I would not have to pay for it or damage my cooktop to get a contractor to pay for anything? I called the contractor as soon as I got home. After I hung up and noticed the damage I immediately called him back. I have attached a screenshot of the phone calls to verify this. It was not later in the evening as he stated.
When he came to look at the cooktop the first thing he did after he walked through the door was complain about how hard the vent was to install. How the bolts had too much paint on them to put in. Why would bolts even have paint on them anyway? I didn’t ask to see them because I don’t lie, and I assume other people don’t either. I never made it clear I give bad reviews if unsatisfied. I have never given a review before. What I said was “If the unit is a bad product it probably gets bad reviews.” The contractor is making assumptions about me. I didn’t install it, I don’t know if it is made poorly, those are his words.
On 10/23 the Viking repair man came. I asked him if he often sees the glass pop or the indicator light broken. I asked him is this could be caused by someone kneeling on it. He said no, that indicator light is not easily broken. He said somehow heavy force must have been put on the front of the unit’s steel frame. He said the indicator light is almost flush with the unit and it is plugged into a socket below the frame. I asked the question of the popped glass and again he said probably due to force, not glue. It has a rubber seal around it and it is somewhat pressed into the frame, force would make it pop. I asked if the unit is worth repairing, he said typically these units do not have many problems and this was caused by heavy force. He said these types of units last many years and 13 years is not that old compared to how long they last. It would cost upwards of $2,500.00 to replace a unit this size, 36”. I am waiting for an estimate to be e-mailed. For the year and a half we lived there the unit never moved from place. I would clean around it with a toothpick to get the outside of the frame clean. Yes, maybe it was stuck due to old messes, grease etc. the point is it didn’t move. After the contractor had been there it moves easily. The repair man said it does not need to be bolted down, they are usually set in place. When the granite guy came to measure he said the same thing.
Regarding the work performed, the vent is heavily scratched all around the top of the unit where they sanded the ceiling. Attention to Detail did not install any drywall they just patched and sanded the existing soffit. They installed the vent, put in two can lights and the undercabinet light. I am not a professional contractor and even I know if you are doing work and you don’t want paint, scratches etc. on anything protect it!!! I have attached pictures of the electrical and the light, the pictures speak for themselves.
Regarding the accusations that I never intended to pay for the job, if that was his feeling why would he take on the job? On this house alone, not to mention previous work on other houses, I have used a contractor to replace the roof, put in flooring, and take down cabinets and built onto an existing cabinet. Not one of them required half payment up front. But just to be sure before he came out I called his business phone to verify I should leave some money. His wife answered, I asked if $400.00 was enough and she said it was fine. I asked simply because I didn’t want to do the math!!! Half would have been $462.50. Shame on the contractor for making yet another assumption that I never wanted to pay the full balance. I am not desperate for money and I am also not on trial!! Never before have I had a problem with contractors, often I will use the same one for similar jobs if it is something they do. The gentleman that did most of the work in the kitchen said he would not recommend the soffit being left on if the vent was installed. Attention to Detail said it could be done, clearly it couldn’t without damaging the unit.
Yes, when I first went home and looked at it from the entrance I sent a text and said it look beautiful, I do not hold a grudge regarding the cooktop, so I wanted to be nice. However, like a Monet it looks good from a distance. After I cleaned the vent I noticed scratches, and a buckle on the side. Again, I don’t think this was intentional, but careless. The unit should have been inspected when it was taken out of the box, it very well may have had a buckle, that would be the time to address it! I doubt it was scratched. This is the exact e-mail I sent to the contractor. Consumer Beware!

[redacted] and his crew came up to repair some water damage that was created when the guy who poured our concrete didn't weather proof behind the stair slab attached to our house. He assessed the damage, put the correct water proofing and vapor barrier to code and even installed aluminum channeling to direct the water away. He was on time, on budget, very knowledgeable and walked me through all the work he had done. He even took pictures along the way so I could see what work was done. I would highly recommend him and will be using his services in the future. Thanks [redacted]!!!!
