Atwood Insurance Agency Reviews (4)

Prior to any balance being sent to collections, [redacted] had mailed 4 separate documents regarding the payment that was due to the address that was on file for the insured, [redacted]. The original bill was mailed out on 6/3/2015. Then a cancellation notice was mailed out on 6/22/2015. On 6/30/2015 our office left a reminder message for the insured at the phone number listed on file regarding the cancellation notice. After that [redacted] sent two invoices for the balance due on the cancelled policy that were mailed out on 7/20/2015 and 8/6/2015 respectively. Both of these invoices specifically stated that if the payment was not received it would be assigned to a collection agency. They both also stated that if the coverage had been placed with another company prior to the cancellation date of the policy the insured should forward a copy of the replacement policy and proper adjustments would be made to the account balance. Our office would be happy to provide the insured with a copy of these notices at his request. Our office will not refund the requested $70 as the insured was mailed the 4 documents detailed above advising him of the amount due and the proof needed to reverse the balance and backdate the cancellation. In addition when the insured came into our office on 9/10/2015 to discuss the issue, he was offered the option to submit a copy of the replacement policy he had obtained along with a request to [redacted] to backdate the cancellation and reverse the balance due.Thank you,[redacted]

Message:Good Morning, The complaint that has been filed by [redacted] is unfounded. [redacted] came into our office on 9/10/2015 upset about a bill he had received from his insurance company, [redacted], regarding a remaining balance due on his cancelled auto policy that was...

being sent to collections. He stated that he had come in to make a payment at the beginning of June and then had come back several days later to  request that his policy be cancelled. He also stated that he was told by someone in our office, but could not remember who, that they would cancel the policy and nothing was needed from him. [redacted] advised that he had purchased a different policy though another agent back in June and did not want to pay the balance as he had other coverage at that time. Our office keeps detailed notes of every interaction with each customer. There were no notes on file that [redacted] had every come back in to the office after making his payment in June. There was also notes in the file that we had left a message for him at the end of June advising of the past due payment and stating that policy would cancel if it was not paid. In addition, a signed cancellation form is required to cancel a policy midterm and no one in our office would have let him leave without having him sign this form. When I advised [redacted] of all of this he stated that he was never asked to sign any form just told that his policy would cancel. Since we have no notes on file regarding this interaction with him and he would not have been told the policy would cancel without having been asked to sign a cancellation form, I asked if he had called [redacted] directly to request that the policy be cancelled. He insisted that no he had not. At this point I advised him that I would call [redacted] directly, advise them of the situation and find out if there was any possible way to get the cancellation backdated to the effective date of his other coverage. After speaking with [redacted] at [redacted] I advised [redacted] that we could submit a request to get the cancellation backdated however we would need a copy of his current auto policy declarations page and a signed cancellation request form. I advised him that [redacted] could not guarantee the request would be approved due to the fact that the policy has cancelled over 30 days ago and [redacted] had mailed 4 documents (a bill, a late notice, a cancel notice with a bill for the balance due, and a bill stating the balance was being sent to collection if not paid) regarding the policy after the date he was asking to backdate the cancellation to. I advised him that if the request was approved he would not have to pay the balance due and if it was not approved he would be given extra time after the review to make the payment before it was sent to collections. At this point [redacted] stormed out of the office without responding and has not been back since. Every effort was made by our office to resolve the situation and a solution was found. However [redacted] refused to comply with the requirements of the solution. Thank you,[redacted] - Atwood Agency

I am rejecting this response because: I have only received a single notice about my bill and it was from collections and not kemper. My phone number is also in records and have received no phone response from them as well. As such they have not attempted to contact me afterwords. DECEIT. Is the main concept of this company.

Review: I recently cancelled my insurance with Atwood because I sold my vehicle. I called and cancelled and two months later I receive a notice in the mail from credit collection services for 70 dollars so I went into the main office in Placerville, CA. They said I was being billed for the month of July because they said I did not cancel. I called in and cancelled but they say they have no record of me calling. Despite the fact that I cancelled they said I would still have to pay the bill. They said I must pay for the coverage for july despite the fact I had signed over a release of liability form on my vehicle. The thing that is really fishy is that if they were really billing me for giving me coverage throughout July they would have charged me the normal amount of 135 dollars but instead im paying half even though they say I would have had full coverage in july. I think they are scam artists and are just trying to take my money. that being said I paid the 70 dollars so that it wouldn't reflect poorly on my credit score. They are scamming me plain and simple.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive my 70 dollars back, as I should not of had to pay it. Placerville is a relatively small town and in my family's means of stopping 90 percent of the business from going there.
