In response to this complaint:
The patient in question scheduled an appointment with a physician and was seen by a physician November 2010. The physician charged the patient a Level 3 Office Visit as dictated by the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology. The total bill was $120. The patient paid $30 towards this visit at discharge and was informed that the remaining $90 balance was their responsibility as they did not have active health insurance coverage. The patient agreed to pay the remaining $90 over the next three months in $30 increments. The patient failed to ever make another payment on their account.
Our Billing Department sent bills to the patient’s address (the same address as listed on the Revdex.com complaint form) and made phone calls to remind the patient of their outstanding balance, but were unable to receive any payment. In May 2011, six months after services were rendered at our clinic, the patient’s outstanding balance of $90 was sent to our collection agency where it has aged for four years. The patient was contacted through 3 monthly bills, 2 phone calls, and 1 collection letter before the debt was transferred.
This patient was never charged a “record transfer fee.” All patient records were transferred seamlessly when we moved locations in 2005. It is a ridiculous accusation that a record transfer fee was levied to move records from our old location to our new location. Additionally, we transfer records from our facility to other physician practices free of charge on a regular basis. However, if a patient would like a personal copy of their records we charge a fee in compliance with the Alabama Board of Medical Examiner’s Policy (540-X-9-.10 Joint Guidelines of the State Board of Medical Examiners and Medical Licensure Commission For Medical Records Management). The patient's $90 bill was for services rendered by a physician. The patient never “declined to pay this fee because it sounded unrealistic.” A payment plan of $30 a month was verbally agreed upon by both parties.
In 2014 alone we collected 13,000+ anonymous surveys submitted by our patients that rated us on average at 4.88 out of 5.00 in overall satisfaction.
