I recently decided to purchase a second pair of glasses online so I would have an extra pair to read at the beach without having to worry about breaking or damaging an expensive pair. When I tried to put my information into the website, I noticed I was missing one detail of my prescription, the PD (pupillary distance). I am unable to order another pair without that measurement. I called Auburn Vision to find out what that measurement was. I was told that they do not provide that information because they don't want their patients buying their glasses online. I insisted that they should provide me with this information since it was part of my medical records and that I would appreciate my full prescription immediately. I was told it would be waiting at the front desk. When I arrived to pick that prescription up, I was handed the same incomplete prescription I already have from the time of my exam. I told him that I was legally entitled to that information. [redacted], [redacted] informed me that they don't do that, I have no right to ask for it and that I could "feel free to sue him". He also told me to show him the law regarding that policy, which I did not have with me, but later found on the state board website. When the investigator, [redacted] called me the next day, she said she would call them and contact me. When she called back, she said she had informed them that they were breaking state board policy and that they were required to furnish that information upon patient request. She also told me that I needed to call Auburn Vision Center to make arrangements to pick up my full prescription. I called Auburn Vision Center immediately and left a message with [redacted]. [redacted] never called me back.
