And, the doctor who did treat him has been gone from the practice for well over two years. Obviously, I do not participate in the collections process myself, so I had to query my employee on this matter. The following is his response and answer to this patient’s allegations: Our office has been trying to contact [him] since 2013 when his claims were originally paid by Allstate Insurance. During this entire time, I did all that I could to help [him] by dealing with the insurance company myself, after which Allstate informed me that benefits had been exhausted. Upon receiving this information, I started by sending monthly statements to him to the residence address we had on file, which is what I do for all our patients that have a balance on their account. Once I have sent three statements without any response, I customarily try to contact them by phone and/or email. In this case, after I sent several emails, I finally received a short email response from [him]. He informed me that he is not responsible for the bill because he told our office that he only wanted to receive treatment that the insurance would cover. Unfortunately, his case predates my employment at Austin Chiropractic Center and the treating doctor no longer treats at this practice, so I cannot speak to the conversation he was referencing. I explained to him that the insurance denied some of the dates because of the maxed-out benefits, and that I needed him to give me a call or stop by our office so we could discuss his options. I received no response until I received a letter from Allstate where he tried to get them to cover his services. The letter explained again that benefits were exhausted, so I called them and asked them to call Mr. [deleted] to explain this fact. I learned later that the agent did call and left a message for [him]. After this, I tried again with even more phone calls, voice messages, and emails to get [him] to contact me. No response. Mr. [patient] has made no effort to resolve the issue with our office and is financially responsible for the remainder on the account. I have attached a copy of our intake paperwork that discusses financial responsibility which this patient read and signed. Regardless of what conversation may or may not have transpired with my previous employee/associate doctor, he was clear by virtue of his signature that he was financially responsible for any balances incurred following his treatment. I have also highlighted the pertinent sentence for your convenience. Sincerely, [redacted] ***
