RE: Case # [redacted]: [redacted]
On 07-10-15, Mr. [redacted] brought his 1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am to our shop to diagnose and, or repair the non-working air conditioning...

system.
We found that the A/C unit had no refrigerant in the system. A pressure test was administered. We found that the high side service port #15-5438 and the low side schroeder core #209578 were leaking. The two parts were then replaced with new parts. The system was then put into a 15 minute leak test with our air tune center. The automatic test passed.
A tracer dye was then injected into the A/C system along with a full charge of 32 ounces of 134a refrigerant at a pressurized charge exceeding 120 lbs. When the charge was completed, the vehicle was started with the A/C unit turned on. The compressor would not engage. An electrical analysis was performed and found that the A/C electrical coil had the electrical connector broken off. The 32 ounces of 134a were then evacuated from the A/C system with the tracer dye remaining.
Mr. [redacted] was then contacted by myself and advised of the issue. Mr. [redacted] was told that we could remove the compressor from the vehicle and install a new compressor clutch coil. The cost of the replacement, including the recharge, would come to $382.00 total with parts and labor. Mr. [redacted] agreed and another appointment was set for 07-13-2015.
On 07-13-2015, the A/C compressor was removed from the vehicle for the coil replacement. After removing the parts from the compressor, a small trace of tracer dye from the 07-10-2015 charge was found on the outside of the compressor shaft seal. Mr. [redacted] was again contacted advising him of the internal leak which could not have been detected on the initial test as the compressor was still on the vehicle and not taken appart. I had indicated that a new shaft seal could be installed but did not recommend doing so as it would be only 50% successful due to the age and mileage of the compressor. The other option would be to replace the existing compressor with a new compressor.
Mr. [redacted] then stated that we reinstall the existing original compressor with the bad coil as he has no intentions of spending any more money to repair the A/C system.
We then assembled the compressor with the bad coil and installed it onto the vehicle as requested.
The removal and reinstallation took 2.5 hours to do. The billing for that procedure came to $180.00 The original bill on 07-10-2015 was for the replacement parts that remained on the vehicle plus labor - $90.26. The 07-13-15 billing of $180.00 was for the removal, disassembly, reassembly and reinstallation of the original compressor.
I, in no way feel that we were unfair in what was done, or as Mr. [redacted] stated "tricked" into paying $270.00 for services considering the time our shop spent on this vehicle.
Sincerely,
Myron [redacted], Owner

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2015/07/31) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
He states that the automatic leak test had passed. Does he have any information stating that the leak test passed? He can say anything regarding the leak test passing, but I do not believe that a leak test would pass if the shaft seal on the compressor was leaking to the point that he tells me the system will not work. This is an obvious case of over quoting, misquoting, and misinformation giving, in order to run up a shop charge and the customer gets no work performed.
He states in his letter that he quoted me $382 to install a new compressor clutch coil, but that is absolutely untrue. One of his employees came out to talk to me and told me that it would cost $320 to complete the service. I scheduled an appointment for 7/13/15 and he wrote "$320" next to my name in the appointment book. When Myron called me and told me that it would suddenly cost $800 to fix the issue I told him that I was not going to spend any more than the $320 that I was quoted before. When I came in to pick up my vehicle he had a post-it note that he broke down all of the charges and said that he had quoted this to me on 7/10/15 and it was for $382. I told him that I had never seen that before and he disagreed. I then showed him in his appointment book that his employee had written down $320 and he then proceeded to enter a monologue about how his employee should have known not to quote me. I stated that it makes no difference to a customer who quotes them. Customers don't know who is allowed to quote them.
I absolutely do feel tricked. I paid $90 to figure out what is wrong, was quoted $320 to fix it and agreed to that. I believe that they knew that the car is worth only a couple thousand dollars and threw out a new $800 quote once they had my car because they figured I wouldn't agree to that so they'd get some easy money and if I did agree to the $800 charge then they would make a killing off of me anyways. This is a common practice done by poor performing auto repair shops and they should not be able to take advantage of people in that way.

RE: Case # [redacted]: [redacted]
Received the second notice from Revdex.com on 08-07-2015. I, in no certain terms agree with his accusations as he is indicating. At this point, I do not have the time, and do not care to, continue with this haggling, therefore, I am sending to you a check for Mr. [redacted], which you can forward to him along with my response, in the amount of $180.00 to put an end to this quibbling.
Please note, this does not mean that I consent to any wrong doing or admit to "price gouging, over quoting, mis-quoting and misinformation giving" as he indicates. Every individual has an opinion, and apparently this is his.
Sincerely,
Myron [redacted], Owner
