CyberKids Robotics has provided ALL the materials and robotics parts requested by the teams at *** *** Charter School The students were required to design their own robots and supply a Bill of Materials (BOM) for the parts they needed to construct their robot The students never
completed a final design of their robot and the numerous BOMs we received were not complete (i.ethe team would request a DC motor and not request the necessary DC Motor Controller to control the DC motor) also the BOMs were often emailed to our office or days before the practice session where the parts were desired This did not provide us with enough time to get the requested parts to our robotics coaches in time for the practice sessions CyberKids Robotics has NEVER promised "One Coach per robotics team" We NEVER told Ms*** that she would have one robotics coach per robotics team for the program at *** *** Charter School We guarantee a to student to teacher ratio (There is a maximum of students per FTC robotics team.) ALL of the CyberKids Robotics schools that have two robotics teams only have ONE CyberKids Robotics coach We have used this instructional format for years and have never had a problem with one coach working with two robotics teams If a school has three robotics teams, then we supply an additional robotics coach to work with the additional students or we create a second robotics practice schedule for the additional team.At the beginning of the "robotics season" every robotics team member was supplied with two PDF files that explained the requirements for this year's robotics competition and the "Robotics Game Rules" Each student was told to read both of the game manuals and to be familiar with the rules and scoring options From numerous questions that were asked during practice sessions and from their lack of knowledge on how to operate the robot and "score points with their robot" it is obvious that the students did not read or follow the directions that were provided to them CyberKids Robotics has had MANY successful robotics teams that have followed the instructions we have provided and also been successful in robotics competitions (i.eOne of our robotics teams qualified for the Semi Final round of the robotics competition that Ms***'s teams attended.)The failures of Ms***'s robotics teams at the competition were due to inconsistent attendance to robotics practice sessions by the team members and the fact that Ms*** did the majority of the work for the "older" robotics team During every practice session, one or two students from the robotics teams would be actively engaged with the building and design of the robot and the remaining team members were more interested in "socializing" then contributing to the work that was required The students did not design the robot and attachments as instructed The students did not create a strategy for the competition as they were instructed When the students would sit in their chairs and not be involved in the construction of the robot, Ms*** would actually build most of the robot for the team No other school that we work with has an adult or teacher that is actively involved in the building of the robot or in the creation of the engineering notebook Each robotics team member was required to participate in the creation of an engineering notebook and each student was required to create pages for the engineering notebook The majority of the students on Ms***'s robotics teams had VERY little involvement in the creation of the engineering notebook and the final engineering notebooks were mostly created by Ms*** Most of the problems at the competition were due to the teams lack of involvement with the design and construction of their robot On numerous occasions, I personally asked the team members "How are you going to score points with your robot?" On each of these occasions, the team members did not have a plan or strategy for how to use their robot to score points and did not have a strategy for the robotics competition This absence of a strategy and "game plan" lead to the failure of the robotics teams at the competition When problems did occur at the competition, the team members "sat back" and relied on Ms*** to work with CyberKids Robotics personnel instead of taking "ownership" of their robot and resolving the problems like other robotics teams do.CyberKids Robotics program calls for a hour on-site summer camp and hours of on-site instruction during the school year We successfully conducted the hour summer camp for Ms***'s teams and taught the students how to build and program a robot that operated via remote control To date, we have provided hours of on-site instruction for the robotics teams We have not "ignored" Ms***'s requests for an updated practice schedule We have been working to modify the schedules of our robotics instructors to provide Ms*** with TWO SEPARATE practice days as she has requested We have provided Ms*** with an updated practice schedule that offers an additional hours of instruction (beyond our contracted hours of on-site instruction) for her robotics teams In an attempt to respond to Ms***'s complaints, we have offered to work with each team separately for an additional hours each (We have scheduled two hour practice sessions for each team.) These sessions will be completed before the next robotics competition on April 30th For some reason, Ms*** does not seem to be satisfied with the additional time we are providing and the separate practice format she has requested.Ms*** did not pay $5,for the robotics program at *** *** Charter School as listed in her complaint The business sponsor for the robotics teams at *** *** Charter School paid $2,for the robotics program CyberKids Robotics secured and provided a matching grant to fund the $2,for the additional students The total cost of the program is $4,with half of the amount being given to the school by CyberKids Robotics.Ironically, the "previous customer" that Ms*** refers to in her complaint continues to use the CyberKids Robotics program and is satisfied with the service we are providing
