vehicle needed frame straightened. Never completed correctly. Now Frame is totaled. Motor, transmission, front axle have to be fully rebuilt. On 3/3/2015 took 1996 landcruiser to have frame straighten on engine bay and front end. First estimate was from $800 to $2000 to repair. On 3/9/2015 told truck was ready and bill was $1100. Picked up on 3/12/2015, visibly noticed it was not correct. Trailered back to shop and ran measurements and confirmed not repaired. took back on 3/30/2015 to correct, called 1 hour 20 minutes later saying it was corrected. (impossible). did not argue, just retrieved truck and contacted business partners and advised situation. Was told by Brad at Auto Wreck Experts they would remedy the situation. 4/18/2015 took back they were to use a Blackhawk measuring system to get the frame to spec. (obviously noted that they were not familiar with it) Instead of repairing the issue more damage was done to the frame understructure totaling it out. Upon each visit saying it was repaired by not correctly straightening the frame out caused misalignment in motor, drivetrain and front axle. Motor had been completely rebuilt less than 40,000 miles ago along with front differential. Motor will have to be rebuilt due to honing of bearing journals causing a complete loss in oil pressure. Vehicle is past the point of repair. It seems no longer viable or cost effective at this point Desired SettlementI am seeking assistance in resolving my problem. Insurance company says truck value is $7,800 and totaled. I believe it is fair for them to use their liability insurance to replace the vehicles value or the option of replacing the frame, rebuilding the motor, transmission and axles along with reimbursing my original $1,100 for repair and $800 in trailoring expenses to and from their shop. Fairly, that is $9,700 and at no time includes the monies I have lost in downtime having to deal with their failure to complete the task they took on, while reassuring me of their 50 years in business, that they would repair the frame.Business Response Mr. [redacted] brought his vehicle in to have the frame STRAIGHTENED. He was given a quote $800 - $1200 to STRAIGHTEN the frame NOT to repair it. This work WAS completed correctly as it was quoted. Not to be REPAIRED which was explained to Mr. [redacted]. This frame was totaled well before it was brought for straightening. Be it known the entire vehicle if assessed by an insurance company would be a total loss. This is a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser that appears to have had its fair share of bumps & bruises. Somewhere along the way someone attempted to repair & weld this frame that had no idea of what they were doing. They did it more harm than good(ie as pulling began a piece of the front frame section BROKE off from where it had been weld on with brass???) . The frame was measured, pulled & straightened by Eddie W[redacted] at Reed's Auto Safety. Mr. [redacted] came in & thoroughly inspected & said everything looked great. He was informed of several issue that were not related/included in frame straightening. He got the vehicle home & then became unsatisfied. He stopped payment on the check he wrote without warning. After a phone call & discussion it was agreed that he would return the vehicle for the shop to go over again. Upon return & re-inspection everything measured & was still straight. However there was a motor mount issue. The shop put a makeshift fix on it as they saw it as not their responsibility. All of this was done at Reeds Auto Safety by Eddie W[redacted] not Auto Wreck Experts. Mr. W[redacted] did all the repair work on this vehicle & knows more about frames than any of us will ever know. Here is where I(Brad)/we come into play. My father & I bought the business from Mr. W[redacted] January 1 2015. It is right next door to our previously owned body shop Auto Wreck Experts. Mr. W[redacted] stayed on for the first 100 days of the year to train. Mr. [redacted] contacted me because he realized he was getting nowhere with Mr. W[redacted] barking up the wrong tree. I tried to make good of an IFFY situation & advised Mr. [redacted] to bring the vehicle in & I would check into the issue. This is the first I(co-owner) had heard of all of the trouble since tracking him down to reverse. I in conversation with Mr. [redacted] decide to put the Blackhawk(ultrasonic 3D frame measuring system) under his vehicle. The Blackhawk is a piece of equipment we have here at Auto Wreck Experts. The results of our measurements showed everything to be within specs. Just a little high at the very front so we pulled down a tad. Through pulling the bottom of the frame was puckered on both sides. Not totaling it out but adding two small puckers. The frame again was totaled before it ever came to us. He looked it over here & said everything appeared ok. Once again he got the vehicle home & there was an issue. I tried to make an IFFY situation right and did not get the result I was aiming for. He called and emailed to inform me of what was not right & the repercussions. In short I told him we would give it another go. All the while thinking I would have this vehicle one last time, do the best we could and be DONE. Hopefully never to see this vehicle again. Some time has passed now and I hear from Mr. [redacted] occasionally telling of the issues again & what do we need to do. I simply explain to him lets get it here & go from there. Mr. [redacted] has also informed us now of motor, drive train & front axle issue as well as dropping oil pressure all of which are NOT a result of a few small imperfections in the frame. Mr. W[redacted] & I(more Mr. W[redacted]) know that none of these issues are caused by minor frame damage. There are many of cars these days going done the road just fine with frame damage. Now to the present. I have Mr. [redacted]'s vehicle here as of Friday July 10th & was set to device a plan of attack for repairs. Today I am passed this envelope from the Revdex.com with this. So now I'm now at a crosswords. Do I continue to one last time attempt to pacify this customer(who can not be pacified) or do I email him & tell him to come get as is & I am DONE!! What I have just read is ludicrous!! With the false accusations & the improbable resolution to these accusations I have yet to determine my counter action. I always strive to do the right thing & take the right action. Even siding on the customers behalf at times when I do not feel I need to. But I want to air on the side of caution & make good to all customers when within reason. I also know I have in business for over ten years now & do not like being taken advantage of nor reading a letter like one of these. With my business stability now I have no problem telling someone I'm DONE. So in long definitely not in short I have a quick decision to make. I will respond here when I do & I will inform Mr. [redacted] at that time also.Regards
