Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I did agree to have the business determine why my vehicle was leaking steering fluid. Their response was that the power steering pump was the cause of the leak and needed to be replaced at a quoted cost in excess of $500. I did not have them do the work as the quoted cost was much higher than any other mechanic I consulted. However, the reason for my complaint is that their diagnosis, for which they charged $92.00, was incorrect. The power steering leak was from a hose connected to the steering rack. Had they actually investigated the leak, and not just assumed it was the steering pump, they would have seen the leaking hose as it was quite obvious when the car was put on a lift. Their misdiagnosis caused a potentially serious problem as the bushings in the steering rack became soaked with the leaking fluid and caused the front end to move too far to either side when turning corners. I was charged $92.00 for what was apparently an assumption on the part of the business rather than a thorough evaluation of the leak. I should not have to pay the fee for an investigation which was not performed, and a diagnosis which was incorrect.

Review: This auto repair shop has an ASE designation. I brought my vehicle to them to determine why it was leaking power steering fluid. They charged me $92.00 to investigate the problem and told me that the power steering pump was leaking and needed to be replaced. They quoted a price in excess of $500. for the repair. I was not in a financial position to have them make the repair at that price so paid the $92. fee an picked up my car. After checking with several other repair shops and receiving quotes significantly lower I decided to take my car to a different shop. When I did take it in the shop owner put the car up on the rack and invited me to look under the car to see where it was leaking. The leak was in a hose attached to the steering rack. Also, because the leak had not been found when I took it to the first shop, the bushings were saturated with steering fluid. This caused the front end to shift to, far to either side when I turned the steering wheel creating a potentially dangerous over-steering problem. I had this shop do the repair work and when the repair was completed the power steering pump was working and did not need to be replaced. I feel that Automotion charged me for a patently incorrect diagnosis of the problem and should refund me the $92. they charged. If I had paid the excessive estimate to replace the power steering pump it would not have solved the problem and I would be out even more money. Additionally, the incorrect diagnosis also resulted in the bushing/steering problem and made the necessary repair even more costly.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement of the inspection fee of $92.00 plus the additional repair cost to replace the bushings and align the front end - $100.00 for a total of $192.00
