Business' Initial Response

Repair order is actually dated 2-18-13. [redacted] requested a quote for replacement of his engine. The vehicle had a loud knock, assumed by all to be a rod bearing, at the very least. I began shopping for an engine,as did [redacted], and we soon realized this particular engine is extremely rare. One dismantler claimed to have the correct engine, but shipped the more common non-turbocharged engine instead. I discussed the matter with [redacted], and offered to rebuild his engine for roughly the same price. At this point I made every attempt to make it clear that this would take me an extended amount of time. With just one employee, and a steady volume of regular services, I did my best to make [redacted] understand that I could not rush his repair through.

The damage to [redacted] engine was more extensive than originally estimated. For example, a balance shaft assembly that should have been able to be reused, had to be completely rebuilt, with all new parts. Both shafts, housing, chain, tensioners etc. Because of the rarity of this engine, few, if any, parts were ever in stock.

I promised [redacted] early in the repair that I would stick to the original estimate amount, as long as I wasnt pressed on the issue of time. [redacted] would come by the shop 2-3 times a week, sometimes more, sometimes less to check progress. This did not bother me because he seems like a nice, respectful young fellow, with an interest in his car.

His mother, on the other hand would generally be rude and sarcastic, claiming we've had the car for 6 months as early as May. I remained pleasant during her visits because they werent often, and [redacted] never took part in any obnoxious behavour.

The vehicle was delivered, and the balance paid on 7-10-13. [redacted] informed me of an issue, that wound up being a faulty Cam position Sensor. This was an original part. Sensors, injectors, Coils, etc. are not regularly replaced when rebuilding an engine. I purchased the part, without reimbursment, and offered to install it the next day, as it was late. Seeing he was not happy to be without his car that night, I asked [redacted] if he wanted to install the sensor himself, showing him the easily axcessable screws. He expressed no ill concern about doing this. [redacted] was told to return the vehicle to this shop at 1000 miles for a follow up service.

I've had no contact with [redacted] until he scheduled his follow up. He dropped the vehicle off, running perfectly, by his own admission, for the service.

The vehicle had a check engine lamp on, with trouble codes for Turbo overboost, powersteering sensor and a manufacturers code regarding a vacuum leak. I couldnt complete my service on the car the same day and called [redacted] requesting to return it to him the next day. He agreed.

That evening, well past my normal closing time, as I was closing my gate, [redacted] arrived with his parents. In [redacted] defense, he said nothing. His parents, on the other hand were nothing short of obnoxious. I opened the shop and allowed [redacted] to take his car.

I was, and still are more than happy to provide the follow up service, and aid him in clearing his car issues. [redacted] parents, on the other hand are unwelcome in my shop or yard, considering their behaviour.
