Automotive Engine Rebuilders, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: My name is [redacted] and I had a tremendously upsetting experience with “Automotive Engine Rebuilders” in Waukesha Wisconsin.

I had them do a bore and hone machining process to my cylinder and originally I had followed the piston sales information which said do a 67mm bore with this piston kit. EXACTLY 45 minutes after that call (I have the phone records) I called them back and [redacted] answered the phone (one of the owners I think) I explained that he must stop the shop from doing the bore and hone because I had emailed the actual piston manufacturer directly and they advised a .035-.040 piston to cylinder wall clearance. I advised I would be there in the AM with the piston in my hand and he said “no problem I will tell them to wait”.

At 8 am this am when I was driving there I got a call from [redacted] (not [redacted]) who is the other owner (I believe) telling me the cylinder was done and to come pick it up. I was blown away, and I stated “WHAT THE HELL” I called yesterday and stopped this job with [redacted] and he said no problem. Come to find out [redacted] NEVER TOLD ANYONE! ANYWAY [redacted] gave me a line of BULLSH-T saying that this IS correct and I could not reach the manufacturer but [redacted] ASSURED me this IS correct and if we did what they emailed me for clearances it would be “way too tight”. He talked me into paying even though it was in direct conflict with the actual piston manufacturer. I then went down the road and had breakfast, at that time I got in contact (by emails) with the piston manufacturer and he stated CLEARLY that I cannot even “consider” using this bore size. I IMMEDIATELY went back to Automotive Engine Rebuilders and explained that they WERE wrong and that now I need a bigger piston and they need to rebore and hone to the CORRECT size. He said “sure it will be another $75 plus tax.” That is when everything went south IT IS THEIR FAULT that [redacted] did not do what he stated and wait till I got there in the am! He is an it! I gave them the opportunity to fix it and they told me to get out or they will call the cops!

MAKE NO MISTAKE I HAVE CONCRETE PROOF OF EXACTLY WHEN I CALLED AND THE CALL IS RECORDED SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO TRUST ME, I CAN AND WILL PLAY IT FOR YOU EASILY AND 100%. You WILL hear [redacted] saying no problem and understanding and agreeing to tell them in the shop NOT to do it. He NEVER told them and now I have added expenses that are MORE than what they charged to fix THEIR screwup.

They made me sign a receipt that they will attempt to stand on which is attached (as is the email with the actual piston manufacturer) [redacted] attempted to make this MY fault in his wording HOWEVER as I indicated I have been accurate and honest in the extreme w regard to everything and can and will PROVE precisely what was said via the fact that it IS recorded and documented.

I want my $83.55 refunded to my VISA card today and with ZERO doubt I wish to make this CRYSTAL clear to you that not one word of this is in any way incorrect nor embellished WHATSOEVER PERIOD.

Sincerely, [redacted] R. [redacted]

cell # [redacted]Desired Settlement: I gave them the opportunity to fix it by reboring the cylinder and even though they had agreed NOT to do it until I got there the next day the owner ([redacted]) never stopped anyone from working on it and they did exactly what they agreed NOT to do!

Therefore a full refund of $83.55 is required

This ended up costing me OVER one hundred dollars to fix now which is MORE than what they charged me and that does not include gas money etc...

Response:

I appreciate the opportunity to offer our side of the above-referenced complaint by addressing the issues Mr. [redacted] claims he had with our machine shop.

I am the Vice President of Automotive Engine Rebuilders. I, personally, spoke with Mr. [redacted] when he called on February 6. He indicated to me that we had a cylinder of his in our possession that he wanted bored to a specific size. I asked him when he would be bringing the piston in. He stated he did not want to drive all the way there with the piston and he had the exact size he wanted it bored so he wanted us to just bore it to that size. I stated to Mr. [redacted] that in the 30 or so years of doing this, it was always my understanding that the machinists want the piston in hand before boring the cylinder. He said we didn’t need it; he was certain of the size and wanted it done to his specifications. I was not comfortable with that; stated that my machinists were at lunch, took his name and number and had [redacted]ny, our shop manager, return his call within 15 minutes.

[redacted]ny returned the call to Mr. [redacted] from my office. I heard him reiterate during that call that we would like the piston before we did the machining, but Mr. [redacted] was adamant that he knew the sizing and clearances and he did not want to waste his time driving the piston to our shop. Immediately after ending that phone call and resuming the afternoon shift, [redacted]ny had one of the machinists bore the cylinder to Mr. [redacted]’s specifications. With our computerized boring machines, the process of boring takes less than 15 minutes.

Mr. [redacted] did indeed call us back at some point later that afternoon to ask us to hold off on doing this job until he could get us the piston and different sizing/clearances. The employee who answered the call, [redacted] (not [redacted]), told Mr. [redacted] he would go into the shop and tell the machinist to hold off on the boring of Mr. [redacted]’s cylinder. [redacted] DID go immediately into the shop to have the job stopped. What Mr. [redacted] didn’t know or doesn’t realize, is that the job was ALREADY DONE BEFORE WE GOT HIS CALL wherein he changed his directions.

We did exactly what our customer asked us to do. The fact that he changed his specifications after the job was done is really beyond our control – we removed material – that can’t be “undone”.

As I read back over Mr. [redacted]’s complaint, “I went back to Engine Rebuilders and explained that they were wrong…” “It is their fault that [redacted] did not do what he stated (stop the machining procedure) and wait till I got there in the a.m.! He is an it!” “I have concrete proof of when I called and the call is recorded”, I can’t help but wonder why he would record his calls to us if he did not anticipate a problem and, among other things, how he KNOWS that my employee is an “it” and did not attempt to stop the progression of this job.

I understand customer goodwill and am all about making my customers happy to do business with us. After being in this business for nearly 30 years I also realize there are some customers you will never make happy. I certainly appreciate the opportunity to respond to this complaint. However, I do not wish to offer a refund or make any concessions to this particular customer. I would only ask that he find another machine shop to work with in the future that would better suit his needs.

Sincerely,

[redacted]. [redacted]

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

They are COMPLETELY full of CRAP! Look I have the phone records sowing it was PRECISELY 45 minutes later first of all not "some time later" next I have the call RECORDED PROVING that he said he would go tell them to wait and HE NEVER EVER told them period! That is a fact, I spoke with them and they CONFIRMED that the message was NEVER TRANSFERRED back to the shop, NEXT the work was not "already done" I called right before lunch and they advised it could be done by sometime tomorrow. What DID happen is when they got back from lunch or sometime before the end of the day they DID do it and the it who said he would advise them NEVER EVER did it! COMPLETE HILLBILLY!

I am not discounting the part about me telling them to do it only that I called RIGHT BACK in exactly 45 minutes and he said they had not done it and that he would stop it AGAIN I have the voice recording TO PROVE THIS so WHATEVER they say IS bull---T! I have PROOF!

I am pulling the money back on my card as soon as I can get in to my bank as they need my original signature or it would already be done.

Regards,

Business
