Autowerks had my vehicle towed and placed in storage for $30 per day, and a $75 towing fee. They never called to tell us they were doing this. Autowerks had the vehicle towed to [redacted], without notifying usDesired SettlementI think autowerks should pay for the towing and storage of the vehicle, since we were not even notified.Business Response On June 2, 2014, the vehicle in question, a [redacted], was towed to AutoWerks. The customer told our Service Manager that the car made a loud noise and stopped running. Upon investigation our technician determined that the vehicle needed a new front driveshaft. Pending a full diagnostic, the Service Manager let the customer know that the repair would cost at least $2,000 and possibly more depending on what was discovered once the car was dismantled. She refused further work on the vehicle at that time and we awaited a decision from her as to what she wanted to do going forward. Our Service Manager had further conversation with the customer and she came to AutoWerks in early July to retrieve some belongings from the vehicle. She indicated at that time that the vehicle would be scrapped. Our Service Manager told her to remove the vehicle at her earliest opportunity and not to leave it on our premises. In the following weeks our Service Manager made repeated attempts to contact the customer about her plans to remove the vehicle from our lot. We did not hear from her again and elected, in late September, to have the vehicle removed from our lot by [redacted]. The customer certainly knew where the vehicle was and made no effort, in more than three months, to have it either repaired or picked up. We submitted no invoice for our technician's time or for storage at AutoWerks. We do have a sign in our lobby that storage fees will be charged if a car is left for more than two days after completion of the work, in this case a decision not to go forward with any repairs, unless prior arrangement is made. No arrangement was made concerning this vehicle. We think we were exceptionally generous in allowing the vehicle to remain here for an extended period with no contact from the customer, and feel justified in finally deciding to have the vehicle removed.

Improper service resulting in expenses and refusal to provide service records to prove that correct fluids and services were in fact provided. Autowerks was responsible for oil changes and fluid changes in my Audi. Upon taking the vehicle to [redacted] in winter, the windshield washer fluid reservoir cracked. When I took the vehicle back it was stated to me that to prevent the rubber from deteriorating from the wiper blade, thy diluted the fluid with water. I asked them to replace the broken parts. They also chose to replace the parts with parts that were not Audi parts. The fluid light has been on continuously and I have continuously brought the vehicle back to them. They have cut my seat, broken cup holders, and my fluid continues to leak, with the warning symbol on permanent display. It was causing more damage every time I brought the car in. The Audi recently had some repair work and it was stated to me that the Audi did not have the correct coolant in it. If Audi vehicles do not have Dex 12 or higher there is a chemical reaction within the coolant system that causes buildup, corrosion, excess heat, and deterioration. The repair was most certainly caused by incorrect coolant being mixed in within the system. The repair bill was $4,430.24 with parts totaling $2,390.84. When I called to have service records mailed to me, Autowerks stated they would comply and then I never heard from them. I called, left multiple messages, with no response. Today, when I stopped by the place of business, the owner was rude, shut me down, and stated that he had no records of my vehicle because all older records were purged. He stated that the incident was over 5 years ago. The original incident in fact was years ago. I have spent multiple visits attempting to right the original wrongs with no success. The subsequent damage is not damage that happens over a short period of time. I just happen to have the car long enough to suffer the consequences. I have no faith in this business, from the way that I was treated and the multiple ways this business has already "cut corners" to increase profits at the client's expense. I also find it quite convenient that all of my records have been "purged". When I asked him to clarify where and what type of coolant they provide their clients, he was unwilling to tell me and unwilling to provide me with where they purchase said products. At this point I am not even sure they were using the oil that I requested and paid for.Desired SettlementI am willing to pay for the labor for the repairs that have been completed properly, however I expect the business, Autowerks, to be responsible for paying for the parts that needed to be replaced by negligent service. Business Response Our understanding of this complaint is that we are expected to reimburse the customer for parts used in a repair that was allegedly caused by prior service at our facility. The repair in question was done at another facility and we were neither made aware of the problem, nor given the opportunity to inspect the vehicle's condition prior to repairs being performed. The original repair by our facility that the customer is questioning in the complaint occurred nearly 5 years, and over 50,000 miles ago. In the state of North Carolina, if a vehicle owner believes that a repair has been done incorrectly, the owner must allow the original repair shop an opportunity to correct the problem. Most reputable shops such as ours carry completed work insurance and we must involve the insurance company at the beginning of any claim process. It is vital to the process that the original repair shop be given an opportunity to see the vehicle and assess the situation before any repairs are made. If, upon inspection, it is determined that the problem was due to a failure in materials or workmanship with our previous repair we are more than happy to offer a warranty or goodwill repair to our customers. In some cases, we might even agree to have the work performed at another shop if it is not feasible for the customer to return it to our own premises. What we cannot be expected to do is pay for a repair that has been done at another business and then attributed to our malfeasance after the fact without being given any opportunity to examine the vehicle before repairs were performed. We regret that our customer had to have significant repairs performed, but without being given the opportunity of prior inspection by one of our associates or our insurance company, we cannot participate in repairs based solely on the assessment of a third party.
