Avalon Heating and Air Reviews (%countItem)

In 2016 Avalon Heating and Air installed a HVAC unit into ***. The installation was not within Florida Mechanical Code 1101.1/1101.3 which requires that approved protection be applied to any refrigerant lines that are at risk of being damaged. The refrigerant lines were ran along the bottom side of the roofing deck inside the attic. When the roof was replaced a roofing nail that penetrated the roofing deck according to code, the nail pierced the copper refrigerant line and emptied the unit of all Freon. Avalon was contacted about the issue and sent a tech to inspect the damage. After the inspection Avalon refused to take accountability for not properly installing the lines or installing an approved protection from damage to the lines. Avalon did provide a quote to replace the damaged line of $1,650.00. After the code was brought to their attention, the offered to only repair the damage as opposed to replace the line for $825.00.

Avalon Heating and Air Response • Mar 09, 2020

Avalon Heating and Air is a 5 star rated company. Any city inspector speaks highly of our company. We stand behind our quality and always try to go an extra mile for our customers. Customer satisfaction is our goal. Unfortunately sometimes its out of our hands. We do all work according to local codes and all of our jobs get permitted and inspected. We can not be responsible for any damaged that occur when homeowners do major renovations or repairs. In this case, new homeowner had roof replaced and it looked like that some decking was replaced as well. We tried explaining this to the new homeowner and even offered him to repair the lines instead of replacing, but unfortunately he did not agree with that. He wanted us to do everything at no charge. We will be happy to work with you on the price, but we can not take responsibility for damaged that occurred during major work and 4 years after we installed the lines.

Thank you

Avalon team

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
Avalon Heating and Air is correct in stating the roof was recently replaced and some decking was replaced. However the decking in the immediate area of the refrigerant lines was not replaced. No other work has been done since 2016 when the unit was installed by Avalon. Avalon has offered to repair the damaged line for $825.00. Living in Florida, the temperatures begin to rise early in the year so I did not have time to get the run-around from Avalon. I have now replaced the entire line, and had the unit cleaned, vacuumed, and recharged by a B&B Heating & Air. In total I have under $500 in parts, labor, and refrigerant. As a young homeowner Avalon believed they could push me around to make an extra $ instead of owning up to their own mistake by not shielding the refrigerant lines in accordance with Florida Mechanical Code 1101.3.

Regards
