Hello, my name is [redacted] and I am currently a student at the avedainstitute of chapel hill, I graduate in two days on the 20th of November andon the 17th they told me I owed 2,400 dollars of my tuition. I used the post11 GI Bill which covered only 19,000, which I was not aware of. I had beenin her office in September asking her to put in a request for my extensionof my living pay which was 1,400 a month. She knew I was getting money and Ihad been here for 16 months which could have been paid off by now. Not tomention the 740 I could have gotten from my Fsa but she did not put in therequest for it which would have helped me a lot and she didn't care to letme know or help me out. The financial aid advisor who could have helped me,didn't she didn't do her job correctly and now I'm stuck without anythingand the rest of my tuition to pay. Business Response /[redacted]/The Institute forwarded details of the students case to the student accounts office promptly on November 18, 2015. The student accounts office reviewed the students ISIRs and determined correctly that the student was not eligible to receive Pell grant funds for either applicable Award Year ISIR during their time of attendance. The Institute informed the student in May of 2014 prior to their beginning classes there would be a balance due prior to graduation of $2,447.94 at that time the student in the presence of the father was offered the option of making 12 monthly payments of $204.00 through a servicer the Institute uses for such payments, which the student did not wish to accept. The student's father stated in that meeting payments would be made directly to the school.It is true, as the student stated directly to student accounts on the phone prior to the complaint, the Institute did not continually remind her of the balance on her account throughout her time of attendance. The Student Accounts Manager has personally apologized to the student and parents this circumstance. The Institute's Director and Financial Aid Coordinator have personally apologized to the student's mother and the student regarding the circumstance.Due to the Institute reminding the student within the last two weeks prior to graduation of the outstanding balance the Institute has apologized to the student and parents and agreed to consider her in good financial standing authorizing all graduation papers and offered to accept monthly payments over 12 months while charging no interest on the balance beginning 30 days from her last day attended.A document describing the agreed upon equal monthly payments and information of where payments should be sent was presented to the student and her mother at the time the student completed her clocked hours for the Institute's Cosmetology program.Consumer Response /[redacted]/Poor management skills over all.
