I purchased carpet from Bob in 2017 and Bob also had someone complete the carpet install. There were some issues with the carpet wrinkling that needed to be addressed in 2020. Bob addressed the issue with ease and helped meet the timeline in which I needed the work to be completed. I appreciated the timeline being met and Bob addressing the issue with the carpet. I would recommend Avix Design & Construction Co. to my family and friends. Thank you again!

Hi ***
It was a tough one due to the timespan.
I am also glad I was able to get it done in the tight timeline.
I greatly appreciate the review you wrote.
Thank you

Bob and his team are very professional when it comes to doing their work.
We hired Bob in 2018 to renovate our bathroom.
And again in 2019 to do two more full bathrooms.
He knows his work very well.
The jobs were done Within the time frame he told us.
I would hire him again for other home renovation projects we have in mind and I would recommend Bob and his to anyone in need of renovations.
***.

Hi ***
It was a pleasure to work with your family again.
Thank you very much for the review.
It is greatly appreciated.
Bob J

Professional, trustworthy, reliable. These 3 words best describe Bob and his team. After having such a positive experience in hiring him re-do the whole flooring on our second floor and carpet on the stairs, we hired him to do our full kitchen renovation.
It was a complex job as it involved an overhaul of the kitchen layout to make it more open and inviting. We had to tear down the peninsula and replace it with a 9 ft beautiful island with a waterfall quartz countertop. The kitchen sink and the fridge had to move and reconfigured and the kitchen cabinets had to be replaced with soft close hinges that rose all the way to the ceiling.
While there was a slight delay due to the countertop delay in delivery from overseas, we were pleased with the job.
Throughout the process, Bob kept us updated and found practical solutions to every challenge that came our way.
As they say, the "proof of the pudding is in the eating". We had several Christmas gatherings at our place and our family and friends were amazed at the quality of work done. I will recommend Bob and his team in a heart beat!

Hi *** As I told you “People should stop at the front door in awe. If that happens, the work is done beautifully “. That happened. Every time.
I really appreciate your review and thank you and *** for your patience.
Bob

Where to begin. We lost over $40K to Bob over the course of a brutal 6+ month process of "renovation". During that time we were lied to repeatedly, taken advantage of, and disrespected by Bob. The last straw was when Bob and his young, unqualified helper friend decided to block all of our security cameras on their last day of work on our home. We changed the locks immediately and emailed him to not return to our address again.

During the project he kept telling us he was "treating us like family". The work was never completed by Bob and there was no sufficient plan to complete the project in a timely manner. We strongly believe Bob wanted to be fired by us so that he could take the money we paid him and run (including 10K in cash which we know we will never see again). Bob was hostile, constantly not showing up when expected, and showing up whenever he felt like getting an hour or two of work done. He became hostile once he realized that the jacuzzi tub he had ordered for us was the wrong size, so instead of owning his mistake, he tried to cover it up by adding window flashing, and a few other makeshift materials to save him money and get away with it.

We had to spend an additional 20K to rip out almost all of the work Bob attempted including all of the laminate flooring he installed, paint in the entire house, electrical work, the jacuzzi tub. Plus all the work that we paid for and was never completed including the office, bathroom tile, fireplace tile. That is not including all of the items that were ruined because Bob never protected our items from his work, which required replacing.

The "renovation" work was shoddy at best. We found 3 extremely dangerous fire hazards as a result of the electrical work. Many things were not done to code. And his work resulted in a major flood through our ceiling where the drywall had to be replaced. He neglected to get an asbestos check, electrical permit (or any type of permit for that matter). He left us and our home in a disgusting state. Left us with no hot water over the holidays.

We unfortunately trusted Bob, but in the end, we ended up losing all of our savings, unable to work for 6+ months because of the condition of our house (and home office). We are now just getting our lives back together. The mental stress our family endured was so bad that we had to seek professional help.

We are shocked to hear that Mr. has chosen these means to receive a refund on his renovation. This comes as a total surprise to us as we have not received any communication from Mr. in regards to his renovation in over an entire year. Since we received his text message and email to cease work on December 21, 2018 (more than one year ago) he has not reached out to us to try to rectify any issues or to ask for a refund. I have kept detailed records, all communications (text and email) and progression photos of Mr.’s renovation.

He mentioned that it was a brutal 6 month process however we began renovations after September 10, 2018 (I have included a screenshot of the text message). And we were asked to cease work on December 21, 2018 – which makes it 3 months of renovations. Right from the beginning of the renovation, we told Mr. that this project would take towards 10-12 weeks. This time line does not include the items that were added on throughout the contract. The add-ons, in particular the cabinetry, takes 5-6 weeks as they have to be measured, custom made and fitted. Mr. accused us of showing no urgency on December 18, 2018 for a project that was realistically projected to finish in early February. We did our best by sending in additional workers at a great cost to us to try to speed up the timeline.

We were moving towards completion on the original contract when Mr. asked us to do additional work on his townhouse. He asked us to add crown moulding on all three levels of the townhouse, asked for the railings to be replaced on both of the stairwells, new closet doors, added cabinetry inside of a closet with a countertop and drawers, approx. 14 ft of additional office cabinetry and countertop, changed the sliding shower doors to custom shower doors, added refinishing of the fireplace mantle, and asked us to relocate the tv in the living room. This does not include the additional work that he agreed to with the electrician who till date has not been paid. We noticed a shift in Mr. demeanor when we presented the bill for the add-ons. The original contract value was $38,677+tax and with the additional work and changes the contract became $55,000+tax. Mr. in his dispute claims that the work carried out was unsatisfactory yet continued to ask us to fix and renovate other items in his home over the course of 3 months.

Throughout the project, we had been moving materials in and out of the house and it is possible that an object may have been unintentionally placed in front of the camera at some point. Mr. did not communicate to us that he had noticed that the camera had been covered or that there was any issue at all. I do not believe that is just cause for slandering a persons reputation as you have done repeatedly throughout your claim.

I have included photos of the fireplace, bathroom tile, laminate flooring and railings for reference. Again, the home was still in progress so there are additional materials in the photos. Mr. claims that he gave us over $40,000 however till date we have received $37,200 which includes $7,200 in cash which we have kept receipts and records for.

The photo titled Fireplace shows the crown, fireplace mantle and flooring. The photo titled Stairs + Railing, shows the finished stairs and the installed railing. The photo titled Floor shows the finished flooring in the master bedroom and installed baseboards and the photo titled shower shows the installed shower door and tile. I have emailed the attachments as it does not allow me to add them here.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Both said Tevjinder’s work was some of the worst renovation work they’d seen in their career. It cost us 20K to fix what this person did to our home which is in addition to the almost 40K we LOST because of Tevjinder “Bob J” S. He goes by Bob J on his business cards, but I will call him Tevjinder now that we have discovered his real name.

From the flooded kitchen ceiling, leaky bathroom shower door, stairs not to code, inadequate laminate flooring install, excessive nail gun holes in the laminate, drill holes left in the brand new laminate because he installed a closet door where he wasn’t supposed to. Some of our stairs were over an INCH higher than others causing a major hazard. Plus some were so sloped it was dangerous – also violates BC code (video attached). I even fell on that exact stair. The flooring was globbed with so much glue and so many nails from a nail gun. It blew our new contractor’s mind. The risers of the stairs were installed BEFORE the landings, which is backwards.

I’ve attached photos of the electrical hazard we found in our home, the flooded ceiling where we had to cut out and replace the drywall and refinish it, the untiled fireplace which Tevjinder already provided a photo for (thank you), the damaged bathroom counter and vanity, the damage from the shower leak, the crooked install of the shower base, the completely unfinished bathroom, the jacuzzi tub Tevjinder ordered that was the incorrect model but he tried to force install it with WINDOW FLASHING without disclosing any information, and the absolute disgusting mess we were forced to live in with our poor pets. We are still paying for our big mistake of hiring Tevjinder “Bob J” S.

We had only one working faucet and sink for six weeks. No shower, no bath. We had to go to the public pool to bathe for SIX weeks. We brushed our teeth, washed our faces and washed dishes in the kitchen sink. Nothing was completed in either bathroom and we were left with no hot water over the holidays. We were forced to sleep on a pull-out couch for five weeks because the project was supposed to start on the third floor of our home (the master bedroom). It never progressed.

When we hired “Bob” he said he had crews for everything we wanted, which is why we chose him over other contractors. Bob himself installed all flooring which took over 6 weeks averaging about 5 hours per week. This was not the speed we expected at all, and when we confronted him about not having real crews, wondering why he was installing it himself instead at the expense of our timeline, he didn’t have a sufficient answer for us. Over the course of the reno we were sent mostly “new” tradesmen, most of which were hired from ***. How do we know this? We simply asked them. It’s clear Bob did not have the sufficient means to fulfill his promises, and what few crews he did send had a poor relationship with him.

The additional work we added (crown moulding + potlights) were completed in a timely fashion, so it was not the additional work that caused the delay at all per what Tevjinder said. The delay was caused by Tevjinder, for no particular reason that was ever communicated to us. As you can see in our text messages, we had to beg Tevjinder to give us updates and send crews to get our job done. We continually had to ask when we could expect a tradesman to come do the work. He would lie and say “maybe” tomorrow, “maybe” the day after. They didn’t show up.

The initial contract was quoted at 6-8 weeks starting in September. The completion date was pushed back too many times to count. From 6-8 weeks, then to before Halloween, then to first week of December, then to before Christmas. Then mid-January. February was never even mentioned, but we are relieved we did not wait until then because our new contractor finished the complete rip-out and re-do of Tevjinders work around that time. December 20th was the date Tevjinder and his assistant decided to cover all of our cameras, which was the day we decided it wasn’t worth continuing since we felt unsafe in our own home. We changed our locks and terminated him via text and email the next morning. We still have the recording.

Here’s a list of what was supposed to be completed in the contract:

Provide & install a new quartz counter top approximately 60” X 12”. White with crystal. not provided
Demo wall to 34.5” high & frame the top not completed. It was cut however, but not supported or framed and left unfinished.
Remove laminate & install new laminate in living area. Laminate included. new laminate install needed to be ripped out due to poor levelling and installation. We were unable to use the same laminate due to the amount of glue that was used by Tevjinder.
Plaster all popcorn ceiling in the unit done to satisfaction with minor dents. This was done by a crew, not Tevjinder himself.
Tile the fireplace Not completed
Remove approximately 120 sq. feet floor tile. Not completed. Tevjinder decided to install the new laminate on top instead to save himself money and time.
Provide & install laminate in hallway & kitchen. entirely removed by our new contractor due to inadequate installation
Provide & install laminate on the first flight of steps & landing. entirely removed by our new contractor due to inadequate installation
Provide & install laminate in two rooms entirely removed by our new contractor due to many unnecessary holes & poor transitions
Provide & install a vanity 25” with a bottom rollout. not provided
Provide & install a quartz counter top. arrived incorrectly cut
Demo the bathroom completed + left demoed
Provide & install a new acrylic tub not completed – this was the tub that Tevjinder purchased which did not fit due to the fact it was a drop-in tub and he didn’t even think about measuring the room, and we did not have the space at all. Because the jacuzzi was a drop-in model, it did not leave enough clearance for the toilet (BC code) in our small bathroom, nor on the sides of the room in general, as is needed. Tevjinder took it upon himself to try to make it work anyway, without informing anyone, by attaching the tub to the wall with window flashing without us knowing it would never work. He stopped working in this room. We were left to remove and discard of the jacuzzi, buy a new tub out of pocket and pay for our new contractor to install.
Install new 12 X 24 inch tiles in tub area Never completed. Our bathroom was left gutted, with a tub that didn’t fit or work. No toilet, no vanity, no running water.
Provide & install four sand blasted frosted doors, including a pocket door Done to satisfactory level, except Tevjinder installed one in the wrong room and left drill holes in our new flooring. Luckily the flooring was so poor that the next contractor ripped out those pieces with holes in them anyways.
Provide & install laundry cabinets with a laminate counter top countertop never provided. Cabinets provided but never installed.
Remove a 70 inch stairway railing This was our mistake as the old one we had was much higher quality than the new one.
Laminate the second flight of steps and a landing BC code violation and all had to be ripped out. Video attached of the sloped stair.
Provide & install approximately 60 inch vanity cabinets & standard quartz vanity cabinets were provided but never installed. After installation by our new contractor, the cabinet was misaligned and poorly made. Photo attached. The quartz counter arrived damaged and was never installed by Tevjinder.
Demo bathroom & provide & install an acrylic retro white shower base the shower base was so poorly installed that it pools in one corner, and it also leaked through the shower, flooding the floor. Photo attached.
Install 12 X 24 inch tiles in the shower area completed by a random man off ***. Tiles were installed crooked and is too costly to fix now.
Provide & install a two panel clear glass sliding door a single glass panel was provided (as requested by us). Unfortunately it was a bad installation and wasn’t sealed properly which caused water leakage into our flooring and baseboards which now show signs of rot. Photo attached. The laminate flooring Tevjinder installed had to be replaced with tile by our new contractor.
Replace all faucets Not installed as the bathrooms were never completed. The only working faucet we were left with was our kitchen which Tevjinder never worked on. Faucets were provided by us.
Provide & install new trim for all doors completed, but unsatisfactory level
Provide & install new baseboards in the whole unit never completed, most had to be removed and redone by new contractor
Paint the whole unit including ceilings, trims, walls & doors. Except the front door. Paint included. never completed. Crew set off our fire alarm while Tevjinder was away from the premise, somehow. They also spent the majority of the day vacuuming their van in our driveway per our security footage. Photo attached.
No debris removal was provided so that was an additional cost for us, the homeowners.

Tevjinder was very careful to leave almost every line item in our contract incomplete so that we would need him to come back for “finishings” as he liked to call it. When we’d ask why a minor thing was not completed, he would say “because that’s considered part of the finishings”. The only single thing that was completed to a satisfactory level was the removal of popcorn ceiling, which we never got an asbestos clearing from as mentioned previously. Our townhome was built in the 1980’s. Per the WorkSafeBC guidelines, Tevjinder was required to have a qualified person inspect the site to identify any asbestos that may be handled, disturbed, or removed as discussed with us. We have yet to see anything to suggest that our ceiling did not contain asbestos. We are really hoping to see one for our own peace of mind.

After Tevjinder started making mistakes, he began dragging his feet on our project. At this point, we cancelled all additional cabinetry we had discussed to try to lighten his workload, since he couldn’t seem to manage it and we couldn’t get a timeline from him. We had to beg that crews be sent to our home so items could be completed before Christmas. We continued to beg him to get more done, spend more than 5 hours a week working, send us an updated REALISTIC timeline and he simply would not. We felt unsafe having him in our house once he became hostile towards us. Even more so when he covered our security cameras. Perhaps better communication from Tevjinder could have helped the situation, but it would not ever excuse the lack of professionalism and quality in his work, character, or demeanour. This is truly the biggest mistake we have made in our lives, and we are still paying for it a year later and will be for years to come.

Hi ***

In his assertions, Mr. *** has gone overboard to slander my name and the name of mycompany. He has lied his way through in his review. I am attaching the pictures to prove he was lying.

Please read the points mentioned below and match the pictures with it.

I am addressing his complaint point by point.

Thank you

Bob.

1. Missing quartz piece. It had to be taken back for cutting it shorter as the plastering of theopening made the opening a tiny bit smaller. The wall plaster still shows wet. The piece was tobe glued in the opening and supported by brackets on the living room side. The opening was cutdown, framed on the top and plastered as you can see in picture # 1. Please see the piece sittingat his house in picture #2. The floor has been completed on the kitchen/living/dining side as youcan see in the picture. Also the baseboards have been installed.

2. Laminate was done in his whole three level unit. In our initial discussions I told him in regards tothe levelling of the living and dining area as it was concrete but he did not want to do it as itwould be too expensive to do so and he had a budget he did not want to exceed. He exceededthat budget by adding on more work later. Just a note that no glue is used in the install of theclick locking laminate systems as he said in his review. The underlay is laid on the floor and thelaminate is installed on top of the underlay. He has said that the laminate could not be reuseddue to the amount of glue that was used by ***. Any laminate installer will tell youlaminate can be removed and reinstalled as it is done on a regular basis where people havedamaged their floor and have same extra pieces of laminate available. We did that for a client in2019. Please feel free to call him and ask him. *** Please refer to picture #3 for his laminate install. Please note the cleanfloors.

3. All ceilings in the unit were plastered three coats and sanded. The project was to be done fromthe main floor to the first floor together and the second floor after. That is how it was done.

4. They were sleeping on the second floor master bedroom until it was started. That 2nd levelbedroom was done within 5 days so they could have their bedroom back. Three coats of plasterand then primer and paint. Since the ceilings had been painted quite a few times over the yearsthe texture could not be scraped. If scraped it takes only one coat of plaster. Because they couldnot be scraped the ceilings needed three coats to be finished properly. That is a lot of plaster. Ihad a discussion with *** and gave him our “Terms & Conditions” sheet that we were notallowed to do asbestos testing or removal in older homes and that he had to get an asbestosabatement company to come in and do the sample removal and testing. He said he would dothat. A week before we started I asked him again and he said he was setting it up. It was asmuch a risk for him and our crews. Now I know realize that he never got it done.

5. The fire place was not tiled as he added a new mantle finished on top to match the darkercolour of the floor and the new handrail. We got the mantle made and we installed it. We alsoinstalled the wood piece on the floor as per his dimensions for the install of the tile. After thecrown mouldings, paint and new floor install the fireplace looked really shabby and they decidedto get the front of the fireplace replaced. He requested me to help him look for the newfireplace front. Couple of weeks later it was decided that he would have to custom order it andhe said he would. So I gave him the existing dimensions for the order. Also all discussions ontiles were 12” X 24”. The tiles they got were really small. Please see picture 5. Tile installerscharge a lot more for smaller tile installation as it is more time consuming than the 12”X24” tile.I informed him of this and gave our tile installation cost and we decided that he will call othertilers to get a price and we would deduct our amount from his total. Please see picture # 5 forthe tiles he purchased.

6. As for the kitchen floor tiles not being removed, they said they did not want it done due toseveral reasons. One was the fact that they were responsible for moving all the appliances outof the area so they would not get damaged. Secondly all the base kitchen doors would have tobe removed by them as they were high gloss and then reinstalled to prevent damage. And theamount of cement dust it would generate when the tiles would be removed would not be goodfor the pets. It was then decided to install the laminate on top of the tiles.

7. The steps were laminated properly except for a couple of them. One was very badly warped. Wedid a quick install on a couple of big ones as they needed to go up & down the stairs.it was quitelate in the evening and those were very lightly glued as we were planning to remove them andre do them again. Please see picture # 6& 6A

8. The 25” vanity countertop was left at his house. Please see picture # 7.

9. After the plumber demolished the upstairs bathroom the shower walls had to be left open forapproximately two weeks as there was a lot of water damage and mould on the studs and joists.Once dry, it was treated with an anti-fungal. The plumber installed the shower base and thefaucet and the toilet. The drywall was done next. The wall tiles were installed after. Theychanged the tiles size from a 12” X 24” to a 12” X 12” size. They changed the style of the showerdoor from a regular slider to a custom frameless 10 mm panel. For that door, a technician has topass by and do a laser level check AFTER the tiles are installed. Then the glass has to be cut tothose angles. The glass is then sent out to a temper company to get it tempered. Once it comesback, the install date is set and the install is done. From the measure date to the install date isusually 20 days. They also wanted gold colour hinges and gold colour brackets. Those had to bespecial ordered. During this duration, they had their second bathroom fully functional. This wasthe second time I told them that we will be finishing in January end as the first bathroom timingthrew us off by about four weeks. In the picture he has attached, someone threw some sawdustand water on the glass and floor base to make it look as it leaked Picture 9 A. When the glasswas installed, the shower base and surrounding areas were thoroughly cleaned as they had tobe siliconed. Please see picture # 9. It shows clean. They used the shower for approximately twomonths while we were there and not once did they say it was leaking.

10. Once the shower was operational with the glass panel installed, we waited one week to checkfor leaks in the shower and the toilet while they used it every day. There were no leaks in eitherof them so we demolished the 1st floor bathroom tub & toilet but left the vanity intact . Thereason for the 2nd floor bathroom vanity not being installed at this time was they did not give us the colour they wanted for the cabinet doors. Without that we could not complete the cabinets. That is why the second vanity was not demolished. The toilet was taken out in the secondbathroom to install the tub.

11. Then they both decided to upgrade to a marble quartz from a standard white with grey crystalas per the contract. I never do this but I sent them to the supplier and they selected the mostexpensive quartz. The marble one. I gave them the additional price difference and they agreedto it. The shop ordered the stone for delivery.

12. We do not manufacture the tubs. Over the last 30 years all manufacturers have changed theirspecifications. Things are now manufactured a tad smaller than the older days. We told themthat we would have to reframe the wall by ½ ” to 1” as the jacuzzi would be a bit shorter. Ishowed them pictures of other tubs installed the same way and also informed them that thejacuzzi was only available in a drop-in model and there is a rubber strip that comes with the tub.It was delivered with the tub. The flashing was temporarily screwed to the studs to facilitateeasier install of the tub so as to keep it level. It was to be removed once the front framing wasdone. Please see picture 8 & 8 A.

13. The toilet had to be removed for removing the 1st floor tub. The toilet valve was shut off. Ireceived a call from *** that there was water coming from upstairs. I asked him to turn off thewater main and rushed over. He had fixed the problem. His cat had opened the valve whileplaying with it when he was locked up in the bathroom. This happened on 12 December 2018and we repaired the kitchen’s damaged ceiling on 14 December 2018. Please see pictures 14 D& 14E

14. Because the tub was not framed the drywall and tile work could not be done. They had till datenot even purchased the 12” X 24” tiles and they were still debating on the colours for the tilesand the vanity. That is why the second vanity was not brought to their house as we were waitingfor a final colour confirmation. The colour they had selected previously was cancelled by them. They had purchased small blue glass 3/16” wall tile for the floor and I told them the tiles weretoo weak for the floor and would break with the weight of anyone walking on them. Installingfloor tile was not a part of our contract anyways. Only wall tile was to be installed.

15. There was one hole made on the flooring and it was not by the sand blasted door. It was at thefront of a closet in the office room where one screw had been put in to hold the track. It wasless than 3 feet away from the wall and we told him we would replace the piece. We would havehad to remove five pieces of laminate to replace it. please see picture 9E. He says 6 holes butattaches picture of the only one. I have exactly the same picture of the hole in the identical spotand format.

16. Laundry cabinets were installed. In the contract was mentioned a laminate countertop. Theycould not decide if they wanted a quartz countertop or laminate counter top. Hence the countertop was not installed.

17. As the walls got painted, the old railing looked really bad. It was made of 2 X 6 unfinished spruceand painted blue. They decided to replace the railing on both levels of the townhouse stairwells.

18. The railing was not 70 inches. It was 70 FEET in total length we had to get to finish it. It had twoposts on the top floor and the footing was installed. It was a continuous rail with a lot ofangles. The top rail was left in the room. Please see picture 9 C. There was a glass piece betweenthe two posts. Unfortunately, the floor where the second post was to go had a soft spot so wehad to install the post approximately 2 inches ahead. That made our glass panel shorter. We could have installed the shorter glass panel quietly but we decided not to. He would never hadknown. I decided to order the new 10 mm glass. It had to be tempered before we installed it. Hetold him of the issue when we ordered the new glass. He agreed for the new glass.

19. He has mentioned the BC code violation for the second flight of steps. We did not build thetownhouse or the steps. They were originally built by the builder. They were living with thesame sloped steps from the day they purchased the townhouse. We were contracted tolaminate the steps. All the steps were so bad that we had to shim each step and glue and thenSCREW them in as the nails were not holding. He was told about this and also given the cost forit. A couple of steps still needed attention as they were warped. Please see picture 6 & 6A.

20. Replacement of faucets was done in the shower and the tub. The faucet on the 2nd levelbathroom cabinets could not be installed as they did not have the sinks. They rejected the sinksthey selected through us when we took them over and said they wanted something really fancyas the theme of the sconces and faucets and glass hinges was gold in colour. We installed thecabinets and left the countertop and doors on top of cabinetry. There was no damage to thecountertop. Please see picture 9 D.

21. All trims and baseboards were completed. The crew that went to install the crown moulding andbaseboards and doors and door trims has been in the business for over 20 years. They do thesame finishing carpentry in new houses too.

22. Paint the whole unit. Everything was painted except the pet’s room. The painters refused to goin there as the smell of cat feces was so strong you could not even stand in the room or outsidein the hallway with the door closed. The window had to be left open for a few hours to be ableto work in that room. There was cat feces on all the walls and the floor. One of their cats is veryaggressive and destructive. Because of that they would not let us even open the window as theywere worried he would run away. That is the only room that was not painted. The flooring andthe crown and baseboards were done in that room only on weekends when they were home.We accommodated that as there was no other alternative. ***

23. The painters decided to vacuum their van for an hour and half one day. *** and ***showed me the video and were laughing about it. I apologised and told them I would work outsome rebate for the power they used and talk to the painters about it. They said it was not a bigdeal except the fact their phones kept dinging every few seconds during that time. When wewere working on the last day in the living room before he terminated our services, I noticed thecamera and put a piece of board against it so it would not disturb them at work as we weregoing to be working in that area for a few hours. All he had to do was call me and ask me whythe camera was covered up. He never did that.

24. As for the electrical hazard, if you look at the picture closely, it has old spray paint on the wiresand old original wiring. The wiring is pale yellow. New wire is white. Even the tape looks dry. They discovered it when their tiler took it off to install the tile. That is from the original builder’stime. We did not install that tile either. Please see Picture 9 F.

25. As discussed, debris removal was not a part of the contract nor charged for as Mr. said hehad a buddy that did this as a part-time business and he would give him a cheaper price.

26. No tradesmen were hired from ***. Every one that went to work there has worked withme before and I can prove it by presenting cashed cheques paid to their companies over the years. We DO NOT hire anyone from ***. No one we don’t know ever works on our jobsitesever. We have enough reliable crew available when we need it. If we are short of crew clientsmay have a week to three weeks wait before we start their project.

To summarize:

I had given Mr. *** and *** a copy our “Terms & Conditions document”. It lists some ofthe responsibilities of the home owner in relation to their project. A few points are listed below.

1. We will take pictures and video and audio recordings in regard to the project as it progresses.Clients have to respond by email if they do not agree to that.

2. Clients have to obtain on their own any and all permits required in relation to the work to beperformed at any of their properties since the costs and time frame vary for each city. They areresponsible for all the costs incurred in this matter.

3. We are not an asbestos abatement company and we cannot even take a sample in older homeswhere asbestos may be suspected. In this case the clients have to get an asbestos abatementcompany to come in and do the sample testing for them. They are responsible for all the costsincurred in this matter.

4. Any changes made on the project will be priced and client has to approve of them before theycan be implemented.

These were ordered in November end in a rush and we were able to do themquickly.

They also asked me to replace all the glass framed doors in the unit with newer ones. That was alsocompleted.

On 20th November they went to the stone shop to see the new stone they wanted. Also till then theyhad not found the new front for the fireplace we were supposed to tile. Keeping in mind we hadstarted work in the third week of September. This was two months later.

Door styles changed on 20th November 2018. Door styles confirmed on 24th November 2018.

On 3rd December he was still requesting for the sample of the windows to be sent to strata forapproval.

On December 4th the windows were approved by strata.

On 5th December, order confirmation was sent to the window company. As requested by ***$ 5000.00 from his previous payments was to be applied for the deposit for his windows so he didnot have to ask his father for money. He would give me the $ 5000.00 on a later date. Please seepicture 14 F.

0n December 12th he confirmed the paint colour for the pocket door.

On December 12 they designed and ordered new cabinets and countertops to be manufactured andinstalled for their office room. Total of 14 feet base and 14 feet top. Due to the proximity of theholidays, the installation was to be done after the holidays.

On December 12th we started to repair the damage that was done by the electrician cutting drywallto pass the wires and data cables for the planned office area. Please see pictures 11 & 11 A & 11 B.

On December 12 we were still repairing damages to the walls. This was all requested to be doneafter the room had been painted and finished. After plastering the three walls had to be primed andrepainted.

All this additional work added to the finishing time frame. Every time they added anything I advisedthem of the time frame needed to complete it. Any layman can see that the amount of work addedand the type of work added combined with the tight availability of crews so close to the Christmasholidays would take this project into the new year. They were advised of that. They terminated ourwork on 21 December 2018 without any discussions.

During all the time we worked there, not once did they tell us anything was wrong except for theone hole in the laminate floor which we said we would fix.

There was no communication for one year from him. We have not invoiced him yet nor taken anyaction. It is on the back burner as we are very busy. I am standing between him and the subcontractors that wanted to take action against him for non-payment for the work done. Will it endup in court? Yes it will, because a lot of money is owed to regular hardworking crews that haveplaced their trust in me to get paid. Those crews are still working with me today.

*** He knew my name from day one when he checked us onRevdex.com before he accepted the contract. Our business license from the City ofVancouver bears my name. *** has it on its website. He sent me 12 e transfers and each transfersends a receipt back saying my full name in the acceptance receipt.

I have over 1300 pictures, audio and video recordings from the duration of the project. I can pull upany aspect of the project at any time.

They did not lose any work time or money. *** went to work on a regular basis and *** went toher parents place a few kilometres away with her dog. She said her work was all internet related soshe had no issues doing it from her parent’s place. She came back home when *** got back.

We were usually still working when they got back home. We always discussed what needed to bechanged or added. If they had any specific plans for or on weekends then he would text me to find out if anyone was coming. I got back to him asap with the info. I have numerous text messages I canforward.

As for finishing, everybody knows that the bulk of the renovation work is done and a first walkaround is done and deficiencies are listed. Once those deficiencies have been taken care of a secondwalk around is done to take care of any small details that may have been missed. The finalwalkaround is done when the project is completed and the key handed back.

He said he had to replace all the locks after he terminated me. He never gave me a key. He only gaveme a code for the front door. That code could have been easily deleted from the system. Many ofour clients do this. It is called a guest code.

They confirmed their window order on 5th of December 2018. I placed the order on 5th of December2018 for a total of $ 6800.00 plus taxes. The deposit was $ 5000.00 which they did not have at thattime and promised to pay later. Please see picture 14 F dated 18 December 2018. They had majorelectrical work done on 9th of December. They ordered office cabinets on 12th of December. He sentthree e-transfers every month while the work was in progress. Why did he keep paying and notterminate the contract in September, October, November or early December? Because there was solittle work left to be done, he figured he could hire someone and get it finished and save a lot ofmoney.

Right from the start his payments were never on time. Always one to three days late. He madepayments by e transfer. He mentioned he paid $ 10,000.00 in cash. In fact he paid $ 7500.00. Iwould like to see his withdrawal receipt from the bank for $10,000.00. We have accounted the$ 7500.00 cash in our account and acknowledge we received it. We accept E transfers, cheques andcash as do other businesses.

His last three e transfers were done on Dec 6, 7 & 8 for $ 3000.00 each, totalling $ 9000.00. Till thatdate he had no problem with me or my crew or our work. Problem arose when we did his billingtotal for a rough total of $55,000.00 plus taxes. Please see picture 14 F. He also wanted me to bringall the cabinets and countertops and doors etc. on the 20th and leave them at his place. I had afeeling he was up to something. Sure enough, he terminated our contract 8.44 am on the 21st ofDecember.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

We do not accept any of Tevjinder ‘Bob ***’s excuses or allegations in these matters. Everything he has mentioned is either completely fabricated or mis-represented. It shows me that there is no acceptance of responsibility, or shame in these matters. Ultimately nothing except the popcorn ceiling was actually completed, let alone even progressing at satisfactory levels. The individual continued to lie to us about scheduling and deliveries resulting in unacceptable timelines, had almost no crews, bought unusable equipment, lacked in providing effective communication, installed almost all items incorrectly, and even damaged our home in the process. We currently still have many of these issues where the affected areas were not repaired by subsequent contractors including the chipped countertop, pooling shower pan, and water damage from the shower corner-area. We hope to educate others about these types of risks with this individual and company.

Sincerely

Bob's team did the staircases and closets for me at first. I found him to be so professional and decided to use him again for the outside railings and staircase. We were really tight on the time and again he delivered. His people came back on a Sunday to finish the job so that I am able to go through with the inspection promptly. We will definitely use Bob again for the future projects.

Hi Fiona
Your review is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much

ASTOUNDED! I can't believe how different my home looks. I started out just wanting to get the kitchen done because we were thinking about potentially selling our home. The kitchen turned out so amazing that we hired Bob to do our four bathrooms and flooring throughout the house. You can really tell he's been doing this for a long time and he talked me out of a few bad renovation decisions. I couldn't recommend him enough.

Avix Design & Construction Incorporated Response • Aug 27, 2019

Hi Marissa
I really appreciate the review.
I am glad we were able to avoid the bad decisions and pitfalls and do your project really well. That also kept the cost down. Really happy we could work together
Thank you
Bob

We hired Bob and his team (Lakha for the laminate floor and Ali for the carpet on the stairs) after going over several quotes from various service providers.
Not only was the job done on time but also within budget!
Special shout out to Lakha for doing the laminate install on his own (1 man team). He was very efficient, courteous and tidy in his work.
Bob demonstrated professionalism, respect for our needs and he was very reliable and responsive to any of our questions and requests.
We had such a positive experience working with Bob that we are now going to trust him with the full kitchen renovation.

Avix Design & Construction Incorporated Response • Aug 22, 2019

Thank you for the review *** I am very happy we were able to do your project very quickly and beautifully.
I also appreciate your and your wife’s patience for the two days it took us to complete it.
Thank you

Re: countertop

1. Yes, after the email confirmation Bob was able to order the counter top and have it installed a few days later.

2.Yes, the price was actually a few dollars less then what had been quoted.

3.Bob came by himself and was very knowledgable and helpful in maintenance of the countertop for our bathroom.

4. I would have no problem recommending Bob to friends and family.

5. I would give them 5 stars

Thank you ***
I appreciate the review

The project was done professionally, on time, and on budget. Everyone I worked with was courteous, knowledgeable, and great to work with. Communication was easy (text, email, and phone), very response to requests and questions to find the right solution for us.

Excellent service from consultation to installation. Definitely would recommend.
5 star rating

We wanted to install new laminate counter tops as well as get new cabinets for our kitchen and bathrooms so we got a few quotes and out of all 5 quotes Bob's was the most affordable and included everyhing we wanted. We were very happy with the worksmanship and quality of the counter tops and cabinets. We would highly recommend avix Construction

To whom it may concern,
I used Avex Design for the cabinets on my own personal home that I've built in Langley.
I used Bob & his company for the cabinetry inside my home.
Bob was very professional and always reachable by phone or text.
I'm very happy with the end product.
His service is excellent. I have been in building all my life. Mostly in concrete forming and framing for residential homes, but also general contracting and construction management on many homes.
Sincerely

We had a great experience with our new home build dealing with Bob from Avix Design.
He was easy to work with and always available to answer any questions or concerns we had throughout the process.
Happy with the end result.
Thanks Bob
Cheers

I was referred to Bob through a co-worker.
He came home to discuss what we wanted to be done.
He sent us an estimate which he change it 3 or 4 times, of course each one was more and more expensive and we never argued about the price.
We agreed in the price, we trusted him, we gave him a house key and a big amount of money as a deposit.
The house was empty all day, he started with the job which originally supposed to take 6 weeks ( this job can be done in 2 weeks) which after 8 weeks we decided to terminate the contract because in 8 weeks he didn't finished what he started.
The logistic of what to do first it wasn't the right one and of course every time he came with surprises which we needed to add more money than agreed at the beginning.
Example removal of the garbage, he never told us that he will not take the garbage and is our responsibility which it cost us lots of money. ( this is only one example).
Every time we contact him to ask about when the job will be done he always gave us stories about why he is not coming to work, ***.
Several times he screamed to me on the phone very bad for no reason and this is not the way to treat a customer.
He told me that he has being doing this kind of work for 27 years which I think he is new on this business.
He told me that he have the best lawyer in town so if I wanted to sue him it was ok with him.
We decided to ask him to abandone the job, he gave us a very small amount of money back to settle. He gave us the money in a bank draft because (he run out of company checks)???
He apologized for the poor job he did.
He charged us taxes and he never gave us the invoice.
Our advise is if you don't want to loose your sleep, loose your freedom and of course your money Do Not do business with him.

Avix Design & Construction Co. did an excellent job with our renovation. The original plan was to only do our basement bathroom but it spread like wildfire adding the main bathroom and stairs bathroom to the list. This was made possible because of the reasonable cost that Bob provided. There are 3 things that led me to write this review. First, Bob is a trustworthy person to deal with. He is very true to his words and actions. Second, Bob has very creative ideas that would make the renovation a top notch. And last but not the least, he would always remind you of your budget if things are getting out of hand due to new things getting added (in our situation, it was the case because of his reasonable cost). It's rare you find this personality from other contractors. Job well done Bob! Looking forward to our next project :) I will have to apply for the building permit first :)

Hi Lawrence
It was a pleasure to work with you and your wife .
We took all your guests by surprise too with the way the renovations changed the house.
Thank you

Testimonial

I have known Bob since 2016 to do minor projects within the budget we have discussed. The minor projects were done professionally and stayed within the budget. Such professionalism of Bob convinced me to hire him again in October of 2017 to do a major renovation of our main floor.
Bob has been kind and humble to me and to my family.
The renovation cost stayed on budget. The time line was also met. Bob was very helpful in choosing the right materials and by giving ideas on fixtures. Overall, I am very happy of what our house turned out to be. It's like night and day! Thank you Bob for all your help. I will hire Bob for more projects in the future.
Sincerely

Avix Construction remodeled my bathroom and did my kitchen counter top and back splash. Even though the job turned out to be a much bigger job than foreseen being an older home, the job was done in record time at the price quotient.
They were courteous at all time and I would recommend them to friends & family.
Thanks

Thank you very much for the review.
Greatly appreciated

My wife and I wanted to take the time to thank Bob of Avix Design and Construction for his great service. We were recommended by a good friend of ours about Bob and his business as were looking for an all in one contractor that could take care of some of our long outstanding projects in our home. His quotes were within our budget and his work he provided was done efficiently. I really appreciate Bob's thoroughness as he took his time to explain, text and right there making sure the work would be done right. Bob was also very easy to bounce other ideas of on other parts of the house as well as gave us an idea and a vision on how to approach these projects as well.

As I am a particular person myself and having some sort of an eye for craftsmanship, our older house by no means was a perfect palette to begin with. The construction crew adapted extremely well to the existing flushness and squareness they had to work with. everything turned out great!!! And we are very happy with the end products. We really love the work that was done on our stairwell and we've had many compliments from our friends and family.

We do plan on contacting Bob in the future for more work in our home.

Thanks, Bob.

Peter & Taryn H

I was referred to Avix from a friend and was very impressed with the service.
From the begining to end if the project the team was friendly and professional.
Our house looks great and the price was very reasonable.
I would recommend them for your renovation.
Sincerely
Lisa
