Awaz'e Ethiopian Eritrean Cuisine Reviews (1)

The story of my strange encounter with an insecure waitress & the neurotic restaurant owner.
Last week I was at this so called 'Ethiopian restaurant' called 'Awaze' in Cary, and I decided to write this post to share my experience as it may be very informative: So, I've been to this place a number of times (mostly to encourage the start-up). Unfortunately, I have always left the place disappointed. As a defecting (leaving and non-returning) customer, I am writing this review to caution potential customers with the hope of providing a glimpse of what it might feel like to be a customer here. This so called Ethiopian restaurant is owned and run by an incompetent, arrogant, insecure and probably dangerous Eritrean woman [redacted] and the only waitress/attendant is her unfriendly, incompetent and equally insecure sister [redacted] The food is average (not quite authentic for an Ethiopian food), and its taste is inconsistent from one day to another; however the worst part of your experience at this 'restaurant' will be its unbelievably poor customer service. I do not know how many pans they have in their red-curtain-hidden kitchens, but if there are more than two tables to be served, they start panicking and lose their collective heads, which doesn't help because the food delivery becomes even slower. I remember that I have had to wait for more than an hour before a simple food was served. According to my subjective observation, [redacted] (owner) and her sister [redacted] (waitress) tend to prefer American customers over fellow Ethiopian customers. A number of times, I have observed Ethiopian customers being dismissed immediately upon their arrival and told that the restaurant is too busy to serve them at this time. (And oh, yeah, I have been on the receiving end of this treatment). Now, I don't quite think this is a product of a racist attitude (it may of course be part of the reason) but my best conjecture as to why they prefer White American customers is because to the Americans, the food is perceived as 'exotic'; whereas for the Ethiopians, it's no where near to being as authentic as the one they typically prepare and eat at home. If an Ethiopian customer shows up, [redacted] and her sister [redacted] know they will have to spend more time cooking this meal or be subject to the customer's complaint. So often, they dismiss the Ethiopian/Habesha customer by saying, "We are too busy today." Now from a business perspective, telling a customer "we are too busy to serve you today" is simply ridiculous! But there are even more weird/strange facts about this eerie small business. How could they blatantly tell a customer that they are too busy to serve him/her while other White customers are sitting there being served? I am suspecting that [redacted] (the waitress), in her small brain, managed to figure that most Ethiopians are immigrants anyway and would have no channels through which to complain about the poor customer service. Culturally, Ethiopians tend to be quiet anyways and tend to suspend complaints unless pushed to the very limit. I reached this conclusion after discovering that I was perhaps the only Ethiopian customer who successfully carried out a complaint. Now they had finally ran into a customer who won't take their BS. I wasn't going to let this pathetic, insecure and small-brained waitress mistreat me while she wags her tails to the white customers. I confronted the situation. While we were calling out for [redacted] we could hear her talking in the kitchen, gossiping about customers. I informed her that her behavior was unacceptable, and she got defensive. She even started alluding to the fact that I am a Christian and I shouldn't be complaining. How ridiculous! And then a couple of days later, the strange owner, [redacted] has managed to find my cell phone number and she called me. She said she was sorry for my bad experience and she wanted to have me come by so that she could give me a free voucher and invite me for free drink. Unbeknown to me at the moment, this was a dangerous TRAP! What [redacted] had actually intended to do was to get me to go inside her restaurant (outside of business hours), put me in a vulnerable situation, and to set me up for a horrible experience: at the veey least to harass and chastise me about how I have absolutely no right to complain (even though I had paid to be served). Worse, to use my prenese as an opportunity to cry foul. How did I find out? Well, to my luck, I forgot to go to show up to this weird restaurant at the time [redacted] wanted me there. Then she called me again (and I don't even know how she obtained my cell phone number! So weird!); she asked why I didn't show up. I answered that I was busy. Then she continued to say how she has never been more upset in her life before, "No body has hurt my feelings in my life the way you have." Absurd! So, because I did not show up for the 'free drink' I ended up causing the worst hurt this likely-psychotic woman has ever experienced! Wow. From there, it only kept gettin","neg-1
