In May, I hired Dave J[redacted] off [redacted] to tear out and replace my garage floor because it was uneven, rip out some old concrete out and replace a portion of the walkway. I live on the [redacted] border and he mentioned that he had years of experience doing concrete work in this area and knew why the concrete shifted like that. He told me he could have the work done in a day and quoted me $2634 for everything, which was much less than offer quotes I received. Well, after delaying the project what amounted to 4 days because he could not find anyone to pour the concrete (and not telling me until he showed up at my door at 6:30 in the morning and asking for half the money nevertheless) and taking forever to get back to me when I would message him, he finally completed the work.
It looked fine, but less than 2 months later a huge crack appeared. My wife called him, explained the situation and he told her that what he should have done was either cut the concrete into 4 sections and/or reinforced the concrete when he poured it like they do in new homes. As far as the cracks that are already there, he said WE could buy some stuff at the hardware store and repair it ourselves because "This is just how it is!" WHAT!? I called him immediately and left a voice message. I went on vacation for a week, returned and he still hadn't called me back (typical lack of communication from Dave). I then had to message him on Thumbtack asking him to come out and cut the concrete and repair the cracks or I would be calling him until he did. He replied right away to that but wouldn't say if he was going to repair the cracks (which I messaged him about TWICE). He came out early in this morning, made the cuts to the concrete and left without saying a word and without patching up the cracks.
So, I called him when I got off work and asked him when he's going to fix the cracks that myself and my wife talked to him about. He told me there was "nothing you can do about those." Really? I reminded him I know for a fact there is concrete crack repair stuff you can buy. He admitted I was right and said he'd do it. I then complained about his lack of professionalism throughout the whole process and questioned him as to why I have to waste my time to contact him multiple times in order to get him to take action. He had no response other than to act like he was doing me a favor by coming out and cutting the concrete/repair some cracks. I told him he has been nothing but a pain and this whole thing has been a headache. I also asked him why, as the "professional", he never told me about cutting the cement or reinforcing it BEFORE he did the work if he knew that it probably needed it. He told me it was because "it would have cost much more and nobody in the Valley would have done it for the price I did the work as is." So, he either assumed I couldn't afford it or he was quoting me the cheapest price to undercut all other bidders, despite not doing the work correctly. This made him mad and he decided he won't come out and repair the cracks his negligence caused.
PLEASE, DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO THIS GUY'S SCAM! Pay someone else who may cost a bit more but will provide much better service overall!!
