Review: A set of "brand new" [redacted] tires was purchased from this tire dealer on 10/31/11. Two weeks ago it was discovered a severe handling problem that developed with my vehicle was related to the fact that both front tires were undergoing tread separation and were dangerously close to catastrophic failure. Research on the tires led me to discover that the tires were 17 years old BEFORE they were installed on my vehicle. The code on the tires clearly indicates that each one was manufactured in 1994.The tire dealer said he could only prorate any refund based on the tread depth left on the tires. The tires never should have been put on a vehicle in the first place. Other tire dealers I surveyed indicated they do not install tires ranging in 2-6 years from the date of manufacture due to the deterioration or dry rot that occurs during extended storage. The back tires do not show the tread separation, however back tires do not experience the more severe road conditions brought about by cornering or being under most of the weight of the car. Since they are also 17 years old, it is apparent that they also dangerous to have on the vehicle. Tire failure has caused many deaths and injuries and its likelihood is greatly increased as the tire ages. No one should ever put 17 year old tires on a vehicle. ItDesired Settlement: Full refund of cost and installation of these 17 year old tires in the amount of $336.
