Review: Chalet was rented for $2415 for the purpose of a family reunion. The house had live ants on the floors, live and dead flies inside, dirty cooking utensils, filthy and unsafe flooring (we were concerned someone would fall through to the 1st floor), game room too small to fit people around the pool table, inoperable screens and windows, inadequate and malfunctioning room air conditioners, slimy hot tub, musty smell, and just plain filthy. In a word the Chalet was uninhabitable.No one in our party would agree to stay even one night, even though we knew that leaving would cost us a great deal more money in food and lodging.Desired Settlement: Total refund of the $2415 we paid for the Chalet and the extra food and lodging expenses incurred during our 4 night stay in New York. We will settle for the $2415.

Revdex.com spoke to business and the following was relayed: The person decided to leave and abandoned the house. He made up a lot of stuff that was not true. The manager went the next day and found none of what he said was true. We believe he rented two houses at the same time. His own credit card did not refund him any money. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The owner has indicated that we fabricated our story about the condition of the Windham Chalet on the first day of rental, 7/23/2014. Nothing could be further from the truth. The place was so filthy and the ants prevalent that the children with us would not sit on a chair. The upstairs floor when walked on felt as though one would fall through it to the first floor. Adding the dirty kitchen utensils, ill fitting/broken window and screens, malfunctioning air conditioning, slimy hot tub, and the list goes on; the house was uninhabitable.When we called the caretaker and indicated that the house need to be fumigated and that the floors and other features were in disrepair, he indicated that he could not fumigate until the next day and could do nothing about the other issues in such a short time. It was then we called the owner, but were unable to reach him. Next we called [redacted] (perhaps a manager) and told her that due to the condition of the house, we were forced to leave. She later called me at home and admitted that there were ants and that some of the kitchen utensils were dirty.The idea that we rented 2 houses simultaneously is ludicrous. We needed to be in [redacted], NY on Saturday (the purpose of our trip of 700+ miles), and since we were unable to find housing in the Windham/[redacted] area, we drove 3 hours to New Jersey. Each night necessitated renting 6 motel rooms; and one can see that we paid well over the $2415 which the Windham Chalet cost us. In addition, we had to eat all meals out--a much greater expense.We both signed the contract and paid for the rental of the Chalet 1 month in advance; and the contract indicates a refund is not due of the premises are abandoned. However, it is our contention that we paid for something we did not get, and we had no option but to leave.We want our $2415 returned.I am enclosing motel receipts for the 23-26th of July. With the exception of the receipt for the 7/23 stay, which is for 4 rooms, the rest indicate the price paid per room.Let me know if we can do anything else to help our situation. Regards,[redacted]
