We purchased a new *** cash register from the mentioned business 3.5 years ago. As we are a seasonal operation (four months duration) the register was not extensively used. Prior to opening this year we found that the digital screen was not working. We took the register in to BMR for replacement and service. When I received the register back I was assured that it was all correctly working and that the GST and PST taxes were correct. We operated the register for three weeks before we recorded our sales results. At this time we noticed that the PST was charging customers only 5% instead of the required 8% Manitoba tax. I corrected the error myself as we required the use of the register immediately. I visited BMR and spoke to the owner/manager today. He told me, "Times are tough and what should I do about it!" I mentioned to him that I would be responsible for 3% of all sales to correct the not charged PST to customers for the last three weeks, and that he must except some responsibility for that error. I paid to have the machine reprogrammed as that was part of the required work when replacing the digital screen.
