I have read this complaint, Mr.*** had his car towed in 0n 4/15/with a broken timing belt do to lack of maintanceVehicle has 146kCustomer stated that he had limited money and to do as little as possible to repair the car
I repaired the vehicle at 75% of CostThirty days later on 4/15/the customer called said car had overheatedHe brought the car in and we found a bad heater hose which we replacedWe advised the customer, Verbally, that the cooling system components are worn / weak and would require replacement very soon or subsequent failures would occur and sent the customer on his wayAbout weeks later Mr*** called *** *** [HIS FRIEND] my mechanic after hours because his car had brokenWhen *** showed up the heater core inlet/outlet pipe had broken due to heat related weakening of the plastic (Common Cooling System Failure with Plastic Components)*** called me and I insrtucted him to bypass the heater core, so he did this on his own time and it was well after work hoursThe Customer & *** have a personal friendshipThe next day Mr*** came to the shop and showed me what had happened, a plastic pipe on the heater core had broken he said that his thought is that *** broke it and I informed him that it failed because its made of plastic, has years of service and has 146k miles of use on itIf it had failed during service here, it couldnt have left that way becuase it would not hold coolant pressureMr *** didnt like my answer at that time I empathised with him and explaned to him that due to the mileage and age that he would have to take responsability for his car but in good faith I would replace heater core for dollars(a dollar job) I thought it would be in the best interest of customer service to do this, although its not my faultMy mechanic did not break or over tighten the clamp, as the customer alleges or it would have leaked/failed before the vehicle left my shop, I monitor all repairs and check all jobs at completion there were no leaks at the completion of either service, but in good faith offerd to help repair vehicleI still do not feel responsible for part failure, but Mr*** insists on blaming mechanical failures of known worn parts on anything other than the obvious "Wear and Common Failures" associated with Cooling Systems
