matter that we were handling for the Complainant. I responded to Complainant's email on December 20 and advised Complainant that I would look into the matter, review our billing records and respond to her in early January. The next correspondence that I received in regards to this matter was your letter dated December 18.Complainant indicates in her Complaint that I overbilled her for legal work that I did in trying to help her resolve a legal matter. Due to attorney-client confidentiality, I will not discuss in this response the nature of the legal work performed. I do however, advise yo that, as I indicated to the Complainant in my response to Complainant's email to me of December 18, I performed all of the work shown on our Statement. The work was for the period of late September through November and it entailed 6 hours of time billed at our rate of $275.00 per hour. I was under the belief from conversations and email correspondence with Complainant that she had hired me to do such work.In the Complaint, Complainant indicates that I billed her for two telephone conversations that added up to 1 hour and 40 minutes but that the duration of these calls was about 30 minutes. A review of out Statement shows that the first entry in regard to a telephone conversation also shows that I spent time preparing for the telephone conversation, scanning and emailing pertinent information to the Complainant and reviewing and responding to Complainant's email correspondence. The other entry showing a telephone conversation with Complainant states that, in addition to a telephone call, I prepared for the telephone conversation and reviewed certain documentation. The Complainant also indicates that she never signed the engagement letter that I sent. It is correct that I never received a signed engagement letter fro Complainant but, at the time I sent it, since I had been working on the matter and conversing and corresponding with Complainant, I firmly believed that she had hired me to do the work that I performed. I sent the engagement letter to Complainant to advise her of our firm's policies regarding billing and other matters.I advised Complainant in my email response to her complaint to me in December that I have always strived to have satisfied clients. Obviously, Complainant is not satisfied and from her email to me she advised me that she did not require additional legal advice at the present time. I have respected her wishes in that regard. I will do no further legal work for Complainant and I will withdraw from representation of Complainant.Although I continue to believe that the fees charged were fair and accurate, in order to settle this matter amicably, I will accept her offer of payment of $275.00 in full satisfaction of our Statement. I will send her a revised Statement showing an adjustment, I will deem this matter to be closed. it is my understanding that you will send a copy of this response to the Complainant.
