Im responding to a complaint from a Mrs [redacted] regarding the refund of her security depositID # [redacted]

Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention and allowing us the opportunity to respond.  [redacted] lives in one of the three units at [redacted].  The furnace that is powered by his...

electric meter is one of two gas furnaces that feed the three units.  His furnace feeds his unit and part of the upstairs unit.  5 of the 7 ducts that come out of the furnace feed his unit, the other two go upstairs.  The landlord pays all the gas bills in this building; therefore, the electric pulled by the furnace is to operate the blower motor only, not the heat source.  When Mr. [redacted] raised this concern to us, we spoke to Duke Energy and an HVAC professional to estimate the electric costs of the furnace.  At peak use, the estimate was $10 per month.  While Mr. [redacted] receives the most benefit from this furnace between the two units it heats, we offered him $10 off his monthly rent as a show of good will.  He said he spoke to other people about the matter and decided he no longer had an issue with the arrangement and would not accept the discount.  If Mr. [redacted] is still unhappy with this arrangement, we will still offer the $10 per month discount for the remainder of his lease or until the utilities are divided by unit. The business has failed to refund my deposit within timeline specified by the lease. When I contacted the business about my deposit on Sept. 18 regarding the matter, I was told to wait until Sept. 24 when the owner of the business would be in the office. I contacted the business on Sept. 24, but I was told that they weren't sure if my deposit had been sent to me or not. I contacted the business on Sept 25 and spoke to the owner. He told me that he didn't know if he had sent me my deposit and that he had "about 10,000 of these" to take care of and my phone calls made it so "they can't get any work done." He then told me to call back and hung up the phone on me.
