Bachman Furniture Reviews (3)

In June 2013 I purchased furniture for my new apartment. I had just moved to the area from New Hampshire and had no furniture that was worthy of carting cross country where I had attended graduate school. The saleswoman showed us a couch and ottoman that my son liked, and though they were not stock items, she assured me that they would be delivered in 4 to 5 weeks. I purchased the items, and approximately a month later I called Bachman to check on the status of the furniture. It took several phone calls to get someone who could help me. The person I talked to informed me that the furniture would not be delivered to Bachman from the manufacturer for another 4 or 5 weeks, and that delivery to my son's apartment would be up to 2 weeks after that. When I explained that we were told the furniture would be delivered in 4 to 5 weeks, the Bachman representative was unsympathetic and curt in her response. I asked if she could expedite the order; she said she could not. I asked if we could have the floor sample; she said we could not. I said I wanted to cancel the order; she said I could not. I asked on several different phone calls (each one initiated by me because Bachman never called me back when they said they would) to speak to the saleswoman who originally sold me the furniture, but I was told she was not available with no further explanation.

I ended up filing a chargeback request with Visa. In rebuttal to that request, the CEO of Bachman Furniture wrote a scathing 2-page response, accusing me of acting in "bad faith" and citing contract language that "Because of manufacturing and delivery delays beyond our control, the delivery dates on all items are approximate and cannot be guaranteed." On that basis, Visa denied me the chargeback request.

However, in his letter to Visa disputing the chargeback, Bachman's CEO also stated that he would make delivery arrangements no later than September 29, 2013 -- more than 13 weeks after the purchase date! It was no surprise, though, that September 30th came and went without a phone call, phone message or other communication from Bachman, even though the company had both my phone number and my son's work and cell phone numbers. Extremely frustrated, on October 6, I called Visa for their assistance, at which time they put some pressure on Bachman and -- lo and behold! -- they said they had the furniture and would make arrangements for delivery.

At this time, however, I am still not in receipt of the items we purchased. This is a full 14 weeks after the purchase date. I have long been a supporter of "buying local," but this experience with Bachman has soured me on that. In mid-August, I purchased a couch and coffee table from Crate & Barrel (online) to fill up his empty apartment. The items were easily delivered in less than a week and when one of the pieces was damaged in delivery, C&B apologized for any inconvenience and promptly picked up the damaged piece and replaced it. They may be a mass retailer, but Crate & Barrel could teach Bachman Furniture a thing or two about customer service!

Throughout this experience, I feel that Bachman Furniture was duplicitious and deliberately misleading. I am surprised that they can remain a viable business with such poor regard for their customers. If you have the ability to shop elsewhere, I strongly recommend you do so.

We needed some furniture, so my husband and I went to Bachman Furniture in April. When we walked into the store, we saw most products have clearance tags. We ordered a set of sofa and a king bedroom set from them. [redacted] the salesman said that they are from Italian. But they don't have any in stock, we have to wait about 4 months for the next shipment. Yes, they order brand new Italian furniture for clearance sale. We were more excited than curious at that time.
In September, our order arrived, and we scheduled a day for delivering. Their delivering date is not flexible at all. Only one day per week for our area, so I have my parent-in-laws waited in the house. When I got home in the afternoon, I noticed two small cut on the back of the sofa and a discoloration spot. One cut was even repaired in some way, but the cut is still very obvious. I contacted Bachman Furniture right away. [redacted] said that I have to talk to the person who works in custom care department. [redacted] is that person, but she is not there that day. After several days, I don't hear from them, I contacted them again. I told [redacted] what happened to the sofa. She said she will have the delivery guy take a look at it when he comes for delivering another item.
The delivery guy came and took several pictures. I have to call again to find out the result. [redacted] said she will talk with her manager, then let me know. After several days, [redacted] called me said the delivery guy didn't notice the damage when they deliver the sofa. My in-laws are in their 70's, their eyesight are not very good. It's possible that they didn't notice anything. But I saw the damage right away when I got home. I told [redacted] that I don't think it's caused by the delivery, I think it was damaged in the factory, because one cut was repaired. But [redacted] told me that the sofa set is sold as clearance item, Bachman is not responsible for anything. [redacted] They have clearance tag on almost every furniture, and they order the sofa set as brand new item from the manufacture! Now they tell me they are not responsible for any damage because of the clearance item? I think Bachman Furniture is using Clearance Tag as a sales strategy, but then use it again to get them out of responsibilities.
Beware about their product. They claimed that the product is from Italy, but the quality is not very Italian. There is no brand tag attach to the furniture, which make me wonder if they are authentic Italian furniture.
I won't go back there anymore, I won't refer my friend shopping there anymore either. We made almost $9000 purchase from them, but didn't get $9000 service. They shouldn't treat their customers as is.
I strongly suggest you shop elsewhere for your furniture.

Review: We bought the coffee table and end table over the phone, was not informed that the ordered stuff are different than we saw in the store.

When we signed the purchasing form via fax, there were no subjected items faxed to us nor even discussed with us: the tables can be fifferent.

During the delivery, the delivery guy named [redacted] discussed with the store about the issue, store agreed to take it back.

Now store only agreed to give me a store credit instead of refund, versus we need to drive 6-hour to pick up floor model by ourself.Desired Settlement: 1. Refund to us the full amount price due to not shipping same items we ordered;

2. Ship us the flr model at seller's expense.
