This chiropractor is requiring "Wellness" clients, who are in good health, to continue to coming in for regular adjustments regardless of the Stay At Home order by the Governor of California and the Mayor of Los Angeles. Dr *** is acting as an opportunist in that his practice is considered "essential," but he is promoting it to non acute patients and in doing so is risking the health of our community. He is even offering barbering services, as stated in his youtube video below, also non essential under the Stay At Home order.

I contacted the Back To Healthcare office manager on March 30th to request that my family's Wellness Club membership be put on hold during the Stay At Home order that Los Angeles County is currently under. I was given three options, none of which allow me to defer payment without a *** cancellation penalty.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the owner of this practice, Dr ***, has been promulgating as fact that Covid-19 is less contagious and less problematic than the seasonal flu. He sent me a voice mail encouraging me to continue coming in for wellness visits even though Los Angeles is currently under Stay At Home orders for anything other that essential services. I explained to him that I am my 86 year old mother's sole caregiver and I am therefore not able or willing to risk her health for my own wellness visit. He assured me that no one in his practice is sick and no one will get sick due to the fact that they are all keeping their nervous systems healthy by being treated in his practice. Once I realized that Dr *** is committed to his own spin on reality rather than the fact that we are in the escalation phase of a pandemic, unlike any we have experienced in our lifetime, I told him that I wanted to cancel my membership and requested that he waive the cancelation policy due to the extenuating circumstances. He referred me to his office manager, *** who informed me that Dr *** refuses to release me from my contract without penalizing me the two month cancellation fee regardless of the risk to my health and the health of those I am responsible to care for.

I have since become aware of these public lectures that Dr *** is promoting to the community, which minimize the risk of Covid-19, state a false narrative about the risks involved in face to face contact with a chiropractor who is interfacing with numerous patients each day, and promoting his Wellness Club business instead.

Desired Outcome

Other (requires explanation) I want my Wellness Club membership cancelled without penalty due to extenuating circumstances and the unsafe practices that *** is arrogantly promoting regardless of State and Local official orders.

The patient, who registered this complaint, has been a member of our Wellness Club since January of 2016. Wellness Club is a monthly membership with a signed agreement requiring a 60 day written notification of cancellation. This patient requested on March 30th, 2020, that we place her, and her family's account on 'hold' due to the Covid-19 virus scare, to which we agreed. She then followed-up on April 3, 2020, stating 'The reality of my situation is that I can no longer afford the expense of Wellness Club", and demanding immediate cancellation without charge in violation of her signed agreement. We offered to continue to 'hold' her account until she felt safe to return, but she insisted that we proceed with cancellation. At no time does our office 'require' any patient to 'continue to come in'. It appears that she is taking advantage of the current crisis to break her contract.
As an essential business, we are taking all precautions as per CDC guidelines. We continue to care for our patients, and consider it a privilege to do so.

It is correct that I have been a patient since January 2016 and my adult daughters and I no longer trust Mr ***'s business is operating in the best interest of our health as he contacted me via voice mail in March insisting that Covid-19 is no more risk that the regular seasonal flu and he guaranteed that he and his staff and patients won't get sick due to his wellness treatments. He disregards the fact that we are under mandate to Stay At Home, instead pushing his political and religious agenda to benefit his bottom line. It is correct that I will not return to his clinic and it is also correct that I am unemployed due to Covid-19. I will not provide Mr *** my financial support now that I know what he's about. He is willing to risk the health of our community for his conspiracy theories and divisive beliefs. I have since been made aware that his Wellness Club is actually an illegal practice as it charges a flat rate for unlimited sessions each month. According to the Board of Chiropractic this is not a legal practice as they consider this operating as an insurance company.
