Review: My vehicle needed to have the motor swapped out. So I took to Backyard Tuning and was given a quote of $1,100 plus parts. The vehicle was taken there more than 6 months ago and it is still not drivable. Now there is a problem where it will not go past 2nd gear. I have spoken to the owner, Andy Ramos, several times and want to take the car to another shop to have it fixed, as I have been without a vehicle for over 6 months. The $1,100 has been paid and all the parts were purchased by me, however I did expect to have a small balance due because of unexpected items. However, now I'm told by Andy that unless I pay him an additional $1,400, I cannot have the car. Also, he has decided to charge me storage....? How can he charge storage when the vehicle is not even repaired?? Also, the last time I was in his shop, I noticed that there is paint on the interior of my vehicle that was not there before. It looks as though someone sprayed the inside of the door with spray paint. There was no mention of ANY additional work that would need to be done that would jack up the price over 100% of his original quote. There is no reason it should have taken over 6 months to repair my vehicle, and now after being without a vehicle for this long, I have to take it somewhere to actually make it drivable - but I can't because he refuses to release my vehicle. If he had any idea that there would be that much of a difference in price, he should have let me know, but there was no indication of the alleged additional charges. I am 21 years of age, making payments on a car that I haven't had in my possession for more than 6 months, and recently moved into my first apartment. I need a vehicle to get back and forth to work and I definitely feel he is taking advantage of me. Is it theft that he has the vehicle and refuses to give it back, will not even try to work with me on it? He did not hold up to his word, which was that the vehicle would be repaired for the price quoted in a reasonable amount of time.Desired Settlement: I simply want my car back - even if it isn't drivable, I will take it somewhere that will be honest and fix it for the the price they quote and not try to take advantage of me after it is in their shop and not drivable. I do not feel I should be responsible to pay the difference in the quote I was given and the inflated amount, plus storage that he is insisting on now, especially since the job is not even complete!
