Review: Badger State Fireplace & Masonry Service installed a product called "Crown Coat" on our chimney cap 10 years ago. They market a 15 year warranty for this product. Recently I noticed some cracks had developed on the cap, and I called them to fix it. Instead of honoring the warranty and repairing the problem, they performed an inspection and charged me $120. When asked if they had done the repairs, they said no and handed me a quote for $840 to fix the problem. When leaving, they left the brochure for the "Crown Coat" product clearly stating the 15 year warranty, which does not include labor.I would have gladly paid for the service call to have the cap repaired.Desired Settlement: I would like my $120 refunded, as I was never interested in a total system inspection.

Response:
This man I'm sure filed this complaint with The Revdex.com because he was
unhappy about being charged for the level one inspection That we
preformed on his chimney. This is normal procedure for us to inspect any
chimney that is in question of repair. We do this because we need to
know what's going on with a chimney from top to bottom. This is for the
customers safety and our liability. We do a level one inspection before
we can make any recommendation on repairs that may or may not be
needed. You can call the chimney safety institute to verify if this is
normal practice for a chimney sweep company or not. As far as the
warranty goes. We were the ones that pointed out to him that we were the
ones that did some repairs on this chimney many years ago. This was
many years ago and we were just going off of memory. He never mentioned
once anything about a warranty. He also never produced a receipt for
any repairs that were done on the chimney and never once contacted us
about this warranty. A receipt or an approximate date so we could check
our records to see if he is still even in our system. This would be
required for any warranty work. As far as I could see is we may have
installed the water heater liner and applied a product called crown coat
or crown seal which both had a 10yr warranty up till a few years ago.
Now crown coat now offers a new 15 year manufacturers warranty. This
warranty. In the 17 years I have been applying this product I have had
maybe three chimneys where this product didn't hold up and this was many
years ago. We honored the manufacturers warranty then just like we
would do today. He's also friends with a competitor of mine that is
probably provoked this complaint. We gave him a inspection report that
describes several issues we noted about this fireplace. Some of these
defects could be a serious problem If I didn't disclose these things and
something was to happen as in a chimney fire or a house fire resulting
from this potentially hazardous chimney.
