On May 31st the customer called & talked to the service writer in our lawn & garden department about picking up her mower for service. She had hit a tree root in her yard. The instructions she gave were to replace the deck belt if needed & check the deck to make sure it was level. Bahrns...
Equipment went to pick up the customers mower to check it over. When the technician was finished looking at what was all wrong with the mowing deck, we called the customer & gave her a quote on getting it fixed. The deck was bent. The left side deck spindle had washers placed under it to adjust for the bent deck from a previous shop. We replaced the deck belt because it was broke & adjusted the deck the best we could. The only way to make it mow level was to replace the deck & hangers. The customer did not want to replace the deck because of the expense. Then on June 21st the customer called again because the deck belt had broke. The technician went to the customers house to look at the mower, he found that the belt had broke & it also broke the belt keeper on the deck. He brought it back to the shop so we could get the parts ordered & installed. The technician test mowed with it for a half hour. We called the customer to see what deck height she was mowing at. She said that she always mowed on number 3. The technician test mowed on the same height as the customer & he was scalping the ground. This is what caused the deck belt to break again. We talked to the customer about the height that she was mowing at since the deck was bent we said that she needed to mow on 4 or 5. She said that she was not changing to a different height. Bahrns Equipment sold the parts to her at cost & did not charge her for pickup & delivery this time. We also only charged her for 1 hour of labor, but we had 2 hours of labor working on her mower. The customer called back a week later & said that she broke another deck belt, we offered to look at it again & she refused. She said that she would just get her ex-husbands lawn mower & use it. The only way to fix her mower was to replace the deck & hardware. Thanks [redacted] Bahrns Equipment Inc.
