level, with the equipment that is required to do a proper chimney inspection. Our inspection report of your chimney clearly shows that the flue liner is cracked, with very clear photographs, in high resolution and full color.  We did not make that up, we did nothing dishonest, and the last thing we want to do is scam anyone. I would like to see the results of the interior chimney inspection from the other company, and I would like to see proof that they scanned your chimney interior with video scanning equipment.  However, that is not possible because I just called them and asked them if they have equipment to scan chimney interiors and they said that they do not have that equipment. They are not certified or credentialed with the CSIA or the NFI, the two recognized certifying agencies in our industry.  If you want to get the chimney rescanned by a different company, I would recommend calling a CSIA certified chimney sweep who performs chimney service up to the contemporary standard of care, which includes scanning the chimney interior with video scanning equipment as a part of every chimney cleaning. Cracked chimney liners often cannot be seen without this type of equipment. If you are unable to find another chimney service professional in your area with the CSIA certified chimney sweep credential that has the equipment and knowledge to properly inspect the chimney, I myself would be able to come to your house, rescan your chimney, and show you the crack again, if you would like to purchase another inspection.  Your insurance company's comparison of their uncertified chimney sweep's inspection with our inspection is like comparing an apple to an pine needle. It is as if you went to a dentist who performed an x-ray and found decay inside a tooth, and for a second opinion they sent you to a dentist with no license who didn't own x-ray equipment.  Your insurance company has not acted in good faith on your behalf in this situation. I am the owner of Bailey's Chimney, LLC, and I hold my staff to the highest standards of integrity. Our values are the foundation of our business, and they include Integrity, Professionalism, Respect, and Safety.  Our chimney inspection procedures professional grade; they are in place to ensure your safety, and are outlined by NFPA 211, the National Fire Protection Agency standard for wood burning fireplaces. We go by that book while performing our inspections. In the 2016 NFPA 211 Code Book, on page 46, number 14.9 it says (I quote this from memory so it may not be word for word) "If the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked or deteriorated so that it can no longer contain the products of combustion... it shall be removed and replaced, repaired or relined with a UL listed liner system." By advising you to contact your insurance company to see if they would help you get your chimney repaired, we were doing our utmost to provide the very best service available in our industry. We are the leaders in the industry in our service area. I hold a GB-98 contractors license, certifications from the CSIA and NFI, and I am a member of the MHA and the Santa Fe Area Association of Homebuilders. If you look me up in the CSIA.org locator tool, you will find that I am the most highly trained chimney professional in my area.  I hold myself and my company to the CSIA code of ethics, which is available on their website. If your insurance company will not act in good faith with you, who send them your hard earned money, it does not mean that we can refund the money that we earned by performing a thorough chimney inspection will full documentation and photographic evidence. If you wish, I can have my office (cc'ed here) send you a pdf attachment of the CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) white paper on the causes and effects of chimney fire, which you could forward to your insurance company. It details all the evidence and research pointing to the fact that vertical cracks in flue liners are often caused by thermal shock, resulting from chimney fire events.
