My furnance was misdiagnosed and they tried to sell me a new system when it wasn't needed.
I called these guys to come out and take a look at my furnace due to a no heat situation. I was told about the $98 diagnostic fee at the time I made the appointment. Not a problem, I expect to pay an expert some money to make my life easier. The technician arrived early (off to a good start) and was prompt in taking a look at the issue. Immediately upon opening the furnace, the technician proclaimed that the pressure switch was the problem, he had one in the truck and it would cost me $250 for him to replace. Great, replace it be done with it. The only troubleshooting to confirm the issue that the technician did was jump the heat wire to the common wire on the control board. He told me by doing that he was bypassing the pressure switch. In fact, the only thing he was doing was bypassing the thermostat. The technician then said that he would continue to check out the system to make sure everything else was ok. Also, great, I felt that was something he didn't need to do but was willing to do it to make sure everything was good. I left him to continue his work and after about 15 minutes he called me back to "take a look at something." The technician then showed me on a video camera what he was calling a crack in the heat exchanger. I am not an expert and have never seen a cracked heat exchanger before so of course I just took him at his work. He informed me that the furnace needed to be replaced and that he was not allowed to hook it back up. I said ok, and the technicial called his sales manager to come out and give me an estimate on the replacement system. I was not very impressed by the salesman, he kept answering phone calls while he was supposed to be giving me my estimate, and was walking around my house looking at pictures and decor and touching things. This came off kind of strange to me, but otherwise didn't really bother me. What did bother me though, was that I was never given a written work order with a price for my estimate. Literally all I received was a business card with two monthly payment options written on the back. I have never seen that before with any contractor and came off very unprofessional. The salesman was more concerned about showing me his binder and about all the reasons why I needed to buy a new system and specifically a *** system. Well of course like any good homeowner I received three other quotes for a replacement system. One of the other guys who came out decided to confirm the diagnosis. He said that he wanted to take a look because he didn't notice any rust on the burners of the furnace and that usually when there is a crack in the heat exchanger it is due to rust. He also suspected that the pressure switch was fine (it never got replaced once the first technician found the "cracked heat exchanger"). He did the same bypass *** that the first technician did, and he explained to me that that test was by passing *** thermostat and that if the pressure switch wasn't working, it would still prevent the furnace from firing, sure enough the furnace fired right up. Confirming that the pressure switch was operable. He inspected the heat exchanger and found ZERO signs of rust or cracking and said that my furnace looked to be in perfect condition. He then continued to look at it and notice that something wasn't right when the thermostat was calling for heat. He reexamined the wires and quickly found that the thermostat was not wired correctly and was not properly calling for heat from the furnace. He corrected the wiring and now my furnace works perfectly. I am absolutely appalled the the technician from Bailey's was willing to sell me a $250 part that I didn't even need and then sell me a furnace that I also didn't need and didn't even bother to check that the thermostat was wired correctly.

Desired Outcome

I would like my $98 diagnostic fee back since my system was not properly diagnosed.

After receiving news that customer was unhappy I immediately reached out to him on 10/26/2018. We discussed in depth his concerns and scheduled a time for me and a technician to come back out to home and re-diagnose furnace for safety reasons and customer satisfaction. I also explained at that time that Baileys takes pride in their work and customer satisfaction, taking necessary steps to assure that all Baileys customers are satisfied to the best of our abilities. I also assured him that if something was not correct that a refund would be issued as well as necessary in-house actions (training, reprimands, etc.)
I met technician at property on 10-30-2018 and disassembled furnace after seeing hairline crack on interior of heatexchanger, as well as showing customer on camera. After disassembly we determined that exchanger was not cracked through back of heatexchanger.
I spoke with customers wife in depth of what we found and stressed importance of keeping an eye on the furnace due to what we see with the camera and age of unit. She stated they will.
I also told customers wife I would issue full refund of service fee.
Ive attempted to reach Customer and explain what we found and answer any questions he may have, as well as let him know on voicemail that a refund was sent.

This situation was handled with the upmost priority before we were notified by Revdex.com office.
