This vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, was initially brought to our smog test facility to perform a smog inspection on October 22, 2014. The vehicle failed the smog inspection for incomplete Oxygen sensor, Catalyst, Fuel Evaporative and EGR/VVT non-continuous monitors. We informed the customer...

that these monitors would require running to completion before it would pass that portion of the smog inspection. As a courtesy to the customer and to keep costs at a minimum, we advised them that normal day-to-day driving may allow these monitors to be run to completion. However, we also advised the customer that certain procedures set forth by the manufacturer need to be followed to allow the monitors to run. We advised the customer that if regular driving does not allow the monitors to run, that they could leave the vehicle at our facility and we would follow the manufacturer guidelines and attempt to run the monitors. We also advised the customer that they may take their vehicle to the local dealership to have this issue addressed. However, the customer stated that the vehicle was purchased out-of-state and that the local dealership would not address the issue under warranty. Each time the customer brought the vehicle back, only a few monitors had run to completion. So we kept advising them of the options available to them;  which were to continue to drive the vehicle until all the monitors had cycled to completion, or leave it with us to attempt to run them, or to take it to the local dealership. We also told the customer they could continue to check back with us to see if the all monitors had run. The final time the customer brought their vehicle back to us, there was still one monitor that had not run yet. We changed our tune a little bit and told the customer that there would be a base fee of $180.00 to attempt to run the remaining monitor, not to pass the vehicle. The fee of $180.00 was given because there is no timetable of how long it would take us to run the monitor as it had been approximately a month and the monitor had not run yet. We never pressured the customer but made it known that we would no longer accept checking the vehicle for monitor readiness. The customer eventually took the vehicle at a later time to the local dealership and the vehicle passed the smog check. As many in the industry know, if a vehicle failed a smog inspection for a specific reason, that reason must be addressed fully before attempting to smog the vehicle again. And that is the approach that we took. In any case, this issue has been resolved and the customer will be credited the initial inspection fee of $49.99 as a sign of good-faith business. Thank you.

Review: I purchased a new automobile out of state and it required smog testing. I took it to Bake Auto Repair and the attempted to smog test the vehicle and I paid for this service. The car failed the test and they told me that since the car was new it would have to be driven 100 miles before the sensors set themselves. I took it back after 100 miles as requested and the auto still failed the smog test. I was told to drive it another 3 days and bring it back and see if it would pass. It failed again and I was told to drive it some more and bring it back which I did on e more occasions as they requested. On Dece, ber 1st I returned and was told that they were not going to attempt to pass the car again unless I paid them another $190. In fact I was told I had been there to many times. I only returned at their request and now they not only will not honor the price I paid for a smog test, they want to charge me an additional $190.Desired Settlement: Refund the money paid for the smog test.
