We inspected the customer vehicle for the concerns of noise & codes. The customer approved the removal of the valve cover to determine the condition of the ***ing system & camshafts as this is where the noise was coming from. The inspection showed indications of oil contamination and... possible other more serious problems within the engine that may require extensive repairs & or engine replacement. Another shop had also looked at the truck with possible camshaft or ***ing chain problems. It was our opinion that taking a gamble on a repair that wouldn't last it would be best to recommend engine replacement with a rebuilt engine. The oil that was used on our invoice was a typo we did use 5w-30w oil in this truck and have the proof of that purchase. [redacted] ***

I am rejecting this response because: baker Auto never told me the cost was going to be $600 just to look at engine and then decide that replacing parts was a gamble and then  they would have to honor. That is when I was told maybe replace engine or off the record clean codes and trade in. Also my truck was kept for almost a week and every time  I asked for an update the response was have not got to it or had a mech on it and had to pull them off to work on another job. So not real sure how you keep up with hours when you pull mech off jobs to work on other jobs. Not sure if I buy the typo on sales slip, if there is a typo on oil then maybe there is a typo on mech hours that was charged.  To settle this I want cost of oil change, plus half of my money($300)  for mech work.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: To make a statement that I am not open to any conclusion that is fair it completely wrong. the fair thing to do is reimburse cost of oil change due to putting wrong type of oil( no matter if there is a typo  I cannot feel comfortable with baker Auto saying trust me we did put the correct oil in) and also half of the total cost of the $368.00 that was charged to me. baker also believes he help me from wasting $2000, which is not correct, what Baker Auto seen was a chance to make some money and then decide as an owner he did not want to do the work because having to warranty the work. After researching this business a little more it seems when there is a negative review Mr. Baker always has these long play by play versions that happened just as his response to my complaint. I have only gotten 1 call from Mr. Baker it was while I was on vacation and told him I would call back. I however did not call back after seeing response and realized that no matter what I say he is going to give me the say answer just like he responded to my first complaint.
Sincerely,

This is a more detailed explanation of the events ;  Responding to the Revdex.com Action to a none repair. Vehicle came in for rattle in front of engine with engine light on, when cold start. 3 codes in system vgt ,and turbo codes. Talked to Customer [redacted] about the direction we needs to go in for vehicle. First we need to change oil and filter due to over filled system, dirty oil 8000 miles over due for oil change according to oil change  sticker in window. Replaced oil and filter found metal and plastic in oil. Test vgt solenoids both passed first time. For retest asked customer for additinal time the next day for cold start. (engine very noise on start up) but went away quickly. Asked customer for time on tear down for inspection of timing chain . Removed right front valve found dirty grit on both cams, asked customer to come down to review vehicle. Customer came by to review vehicle at this time. Looked at vehicle with Tech talked about engine tarnish and grit in engine.  Reviewing engine with customer about grim in engine that Mr. [redacted] would be better off getting a new vehicle or engine due to cost of repairs and that it may reoccur because of engine debris. That I could not warranty work performed because of dirt in engine would cause vgt  solenoids to and chain tensioners  fail  again. Customer agreed .Reviewing with customer what need to do next was to add new gasket to the removed valve cover and return to customer. Also reviewed all cost to repair each time and asked permission on every event. Customer was ok with $ 600.00 plus tax on final bill .( Replaced oil filter,6 qts. Of oil 5-w30 motor craft ,air filter and right side valve cover gasket. Thank You. [redacted]Service Manager      Baker Auto Repair2310 Calder Ave.Beaumont,TX 77702(409)833-8200 Office(409)835-0715 Fax      I will add my input as well, the customers first request was to refund the oil change, although that doesn't equal 300.00 dollarsNow requesting that  that he believes that we didn't work on his truck during the time he was billed for, Let me explain,He requested a Scan test & eval of the codes & conditions, I told him that a charge or 88.00 over the phone before he brought the truck in for repairs.   Once the truck was here we suggested a oil change due to the condition of the oil; He approved. We had to wait till the next morning to determine if the oil change would help(It didn't) $82.82 + air filter, $17.64We then discussed with the customer the most likely cause was a timing chain problem and may require a extensive repair of chain & gears and most likely could cost $2000.00 or more. The customer approved on the phone to move forwardWe discussed within our staff that it would be best just to remove one valve cover to inspect the condition & visually look at the inside of the engine & chain. This way we could advise the customer if it was wise to move forward.Upon removal of the cover & inspection of the chain we saw contamination in the engine & the chain was loose, we ask the customer to come down and look at the engine which he did and decided to reassemble the engine and he would think it over and pick up the truck. Book time to preform the operation is well within factory guidelines @ 3.5 hrs to remove & clean the cover & .5 hrs to inspect chain $322.00 + 46.00 dollars. Although the customer determined that we wasted time if he only knew that with our combined effort and proper way of looking into this with factory  TSBs we saved the customer from wasting over $2000.00 on a repair that would most likely failed in a good out come. I have called the customer several times & he wont talk with me. I am happy to work out some common ground but I feel he is not receptive to a conclusion that id fair. [redacted]
