This letter is in response to the complaint filed against our company from...

[redacted] In short, the complaint alleges an exaggerated bill as well as unnecessary and unsatisfactory work performed. We offer the following explanation:
On 8/07/15 we received a service call to check a leak through ceiling due to water spots noticed by customer. Technicians went out and needed to cut out sheetrock in ceiling to try to identify leak. Customer wanted to wait until Monday, 8/10/16 to cut ceiling.
On 8/10/15 we returned to job to cut wet spot out in ceiling to identify leak. We found that upstairs tub was leaking at the cartridge on the deck mount tub valve. We replaced (1) cartridge on the side that was leaking, replaced cup washers on hot & cold side, checked for other leaks and found nothing leaking at the time.
On 9/9/15 we were called out for another leak in the ceiling. We found that the wax seal was leaking at the water closet base. The flapper was letting water from the tank into the bowl which had water running continuously and leaking past the wax seal which made the leak worse. We replaced the seal at the water closet flange and replaced the parts in the tank to correct the problem of water leaking into the bowl.

The following is a summation of the charges:
First trip - 8/7/15 = $ 0.00
(no charge)

Second trip - 8/10/15 $364.69
(materials = $34.69)
(labor - 3hrs x $110/hr = $330.00)

Third trip - 9/9/15 = $128.91
(materials = $ 73.91)
(labor - 1.5 hrs x $110/hr = $165.00)
(credit = - $110.00)
_________________________________________ Total billed to customer: = $493.60
When I billed this second invoice, I went ahead and credited (1) hour ($238.91 - $110.00) for the driving time for having to make and extra trip. This reduced the second invoice total to $128.91. I can assure you that these were two different leaks that occurred at separate times because after we repaired the first leak it was another month before the second leak showed up.
Please note that this Revdex.com complaint was not filed until (1) year later when we sent notice of legal action to collect payment. It may also interest someone to know that although this customer had issues with our service and billing amount, she proceeded to sell the house fully aware that there was an outstanding debt associated with this house. It would be interesting to know if this outstanding debt was disclosed to the buyers before they closed on this house.
We have been in business for more than 60 yrs and have always tried to treat our customers with fairness and professionalism. We would like to resolve this matter amicably and to the satisfaction of both parties. We are more than willing to discuss this matter further so that we can come to a satisfactory resolution for all.
Sincerely,
James O. W[redacted], Jr.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 9, 2016/09/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The dates are wrong, they have 8-7-2015 and it was 8-7-2016. I know this because I was trying to sell the home last spring and could not show the home for several weeks because of hole. The whole point that they seem to ignore is the fact that the first two servicemen came in and immediately starting cutting a hole before looking at the tub faucet upstairs. I'm not a plumber but I have enough sense to know you check all faucets toilet etc. before cutting a hole. They cut the hole and then proceeded to find the leaking handle. They act as though the leak in the ceiling was in a different place the second time and it wasn't. Same looking leak in the same place directly under the toilet. Chris came out the second time and took one look and knew it was the toilet, the first two guys didn't even take up the toilet to look, instead cut the hole directly under it. Even the second serviceman confided that the hole did not need to be cut! Now they say he said no such thing! They weren't there, and he most certainly said this, and I had to pay to have ceiling fixed two times. Why didn't they pull the toilet up and look at pipes before cutting a big hole in ceiling to begin with? These first two servicemen must have been new, because any other serviceman would have looked at the hole that the toilet was sitting on, rather than cutting a huge hole on the ceiling directly under toilet! I am still shocked they won't admit that it wasn't necessary to cut hole, and I had to pay twice to have ceiling repaired. They aren't taking this into account when figuring the bill! It took me a couple of weeks to find someone to fix the hole, that is why I called several weeks later after the first service. Then when the ceiling finally dried, the same leak came back, and that's what the delay was! I have used Pete Wall in the past and they had always done a good job! They think because I am a single women, they can take advantage of me, and I won't know the difference! Any one knows you cut a hole as a last resort, not BEFORE you find a leaky faucet for pete's sake! Get real! I'm not stupid!!
Thanks, [redacted]

re:  [redacted]        [redacted]   Attached please find a screenshot which itemizes the City of Greensboro Water bill of $242.20.    Per [redacted] at the City, they are not able to print out a bill which itemizes out the charges so this is why we are sending you this screenshot.  She said the $120 is for the failed inspection visits and $122.20 is the charge for the adapter the City had to install.  I hope this provides the information you need.  Thank you.   [redacted]   ----- Forwarded Message ----- [redacted] Sent: ?Monday?, ?September? ?11?, ?2017? ?10?:?23?:?11? ?AM? ?EDT Subject:     [redacted], Work Tech Management Water Resources City Of Greensboro [redacted]

This letter is in response to a complaint against our company concerning [redacted].  We feel that we have fulfilled all the terms of our contract.  The contract attached included installing a 1" RPZ backflow and (2) yard hydrants.  The contract also states that the city inspection...

fees for the RPZ backflow were included in the bid price which includes an inspection by the City of Greensboro and an independent licensed back flow tech that certifies the unit.  It clearly states in the contract that the meter install and meter fees would be handled by others (Mr. [redacted]).  This means that anything involving the meter installation would not be our responsibility because the City of Greensboro sets the meters.   The first inspection made by the City was turned down due to the RPZ was stuck open and we were fined $50.  We offered to pay for this fee since it was on the RPZ that we installed. The issue arose when the City set the meter and Mr. [redacted] had decided to use a smaller meter to save money.  This required meter reducers to be installed so that the city could set the meter properly.  When the city came to inspect they failed it due to the reducers not being installed and Mr. [redacted] was fined $50.  We offered to install the reducers for Mr. [redacted] because of the fact that he was a loyal and good paying customer, although we were not required to do so.  We installed the reducers and when the city came out to inspect, they turned it down again because they said that they were not satisfied with the type of reducers we used.  The city decided to install the reducers themselves since they knew what was required although our company did not request that they do this.  The city charged Mr. [redacted] $140 for this installation.  This should never have been our obligation to pay since we were not contracted nor responsible for installing the meter.   We have contacted the worker from the city meter department ([redacted]) and inquired about the charges and our responsibility to pay and were told that we were not responsible for this and that this is solely the responsibility of the customer since the meter fees and installation are contracted between the City of Greensboro and the homeowner, not the plumbing contractor.  [redacted] even informed us that she had explained this to Mr. [redacted].  We informed Mr. [redacted] about our conversation with the City and he refused to talk to her any further.  In addition, we have stated in our contract that we do not do any subsequent landscaping or reseeding of grass after we back fill the ditches after install, but we still made multiple trips to the work location to tamp down and smooth out the dirt mounds and do some extra requests after the work was completed just to satisfy the customer.   We feel we have gone above and beyond to satisfy this customer but we cannot take responsibility for charges that were not part of our inspection requirements nor were they part of what we installed as per our signed contract with the customer.  We are still willing to pay the $50 towards the turn down fee from our RPZ installation as we had offered before.

Letter of response to Revdex.com complaint:  ID# [redacted]
In response, we again reiterate that a
contract was submitted to the complainant and was accepted to do this job.  This contract included a statement that
excluded us from being responsible for the meter or meter fees.  We adjusted the meter at the suggestion of
the city because we were already there on site and attempted to correct the
issue with the meter as a favor only to try to save the customer money, not out
of obligation.  We used our labor and gas
to travel to the supply house to purchase the part and attempted to adjust the
meter, all at no extra charge to the customer.
The city did not agree with the size of the adapter on the meter and
made the adjustment themselves which they were obligated to do in the first
place. As we stated in the previous responses, we are not responsible for any
adjustments or work on the meter, the city handles all meter issues.
The customer paid the city for the
different sized meter which was not the standard size for his job.  The adjustment had to be made to accommodate the
different sized meter.  Since we do not
install the meters we would not have known to adjust it had we not been told by
the city upon inspection of the meter.
When the inspection failed, we attempted (as stated above) to adjust to
help the customer. When our part was not accepted by the city, they decided to
adjust it themselves and charge the customer. Had the customer purchased the
standard meter that would generally fit our meter yoke and box, there would not
have been an issue.
To show that we were trying our best to accommodate
the customer at no additional charge, our contract also states that after we
backfill our ditches, we do not re-landscape or reseed any grass, however, we
still went back on the site several times to clean up and rake out this area of
repair at the customer’s request to make him happy.
Again we state that we have gone above and
beyond to satisfy this customer but we cannot take responsibility for charges
that were not part of our inspection requirements nor were they part of what we
installed as per our signed contract with the customer.
