Review: WORK: not to industry standards, agreed to work during work hours but scheduled for after hours (we incurred extra expense for property manger's after hours fees), did not build work to copy existing carpentry as shown and agreed. THE WORK Carpenter stated half the work was complete and asked for drywall to be done before he could continue. Review of his work revealed he provided substandard work. Drywaller refused work as it was not built properly for him to do drywall repair. Suggested redoing the work properly and he would come back to drywall if done. Another carpenter removed boxes improperly installed in wall and found shims made from corrugated cardboard. As this is a bathroom with moisture = 1. Structural failure inevitable and 2. Potential long term health risk if mold formed. PAYMENT Carpenter had been paid full payment by error and refused to authorize half refund back for work not performed. This was even before poor work had been identified. SUMMARY In light of shoddy work from start to half way thorough, there was no logical reason to have this person back to do any further substandard work. He'd already had the opportunity to put his best foot forward and knowingly missed the mark. Carpenter said he would keep the full payment because he was not being allowed to come back and complete the job.Second carpenter confirmed in writing that work was substandard and needed to be redone. Cost twice as much to have it redone as it should have if done right the first time.
