Barbara Canavan Realty and Associates Reviews (1)

We have been trying to get things fixed for almost a year without luck. We are now without heat in the cold winter. When we moved in we were told that the front door would be fixed as well as a hole in the wall. There was a pool that was in non working order as well and it got to the point that they had refused to fix it so we got permission from the owner to tear it down as it was a hazard to our toddler. When we moved in there were bees living in the ceiling, the duct work under the house was disconnected and the fireplace was releasing smoke back into the house via the recessed lighting. I have requested several times over the past 10 months for the fireplace to be repaired. May 21 we discovered that the upstairs toilet was leaking and caused a hold in the downstairs ceiling. They came to fix the leak but dispute our request never sent anyone to assess the damage and repair the hole. August 7th I sent another email begging to have the fireplace fixed before the cold season as we plan to use it for heat because the heater is old, I also asked about repairing the hole. We did not receive a reply. November 11th I called to state that our downstairs heater was not working. Unable to speak with [redacted] the assistant handled the call. I was told that someone would be out to look at it after the rain stopped and that someone would be out to fix the fireplace. November 12 I recieved an email stating that the chimney repair company will be contacting me, but they never did. November 18th I send another email stating that no one had been out to fix the fireplace and that someone came to get a quote on the heater but never came back so we still had no heat downstairs. Still no reply by them but we received two calls from other companies wanting to get quotes. To me this is very upsetting because we have zero heat downstairs and have a toddler in the house that is forced to wear outdoor winter ware in the house. Desired SettlementI simply request that the above mentioned be fixed. We pay $1100 a month and expect the house to be in working order. I have put this off because I do not want to be forced to move out as I like my house and the neighborhood and fear that they will refuse to resign my lease. Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], BICContact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted]Tenant has never been without heat in the home--the 2nd floor unit is functioning. Tenant called 11/12/14 and a repair tech went to the home 11/12/14. The downstairs unit was deemed faulty and the company performing maintenance had to do some research for parts (the unit is an older unit from the 80's and parts are sometimes hard to find). On 11/17/14 we were notified parts were not available and we called two additional vendors for estimates. On 11/18/14 another vendor inspected the unit and performed a temporary fix to get the heating strips functioning for the first floor. Another vendor has a new unit available locally and will be installing the unit 11/21/14. Tenant has not begged our company for anything--that is a very exaggerated statement. The repair for the fireplace was phoned in 11/12/14 and we have advised the tenant to call if she does not get contacted by the vendor. We spoke to the vendor 11/18/14 and vendor stated they had ordered materials for the fireplace and would be out to the home as soon as the materials are received.Consumer Response In a 2 story 2200 square foot house 1 upstairs heater is in-antiquate, as heat rises and does not go down to the downstairs. It is also considered inhabitable and should have been a priority. Our days is spent downstairs where our family room and kitchen are. I was not notified of any of the above information, therefore could only assume the worst. In saying begged, I mean multiple attempts to get information about the heater being fixed. Asking please for it to be fixed as I have a 2 year old at home that is bundled up in outdoor winter clothes to keep her warm while I cook her breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mentioning that I do not have a car to go to a warm place during the day. I was not advised to call the reality company if the fireplace company had not contacted me and I was unable to get a response when I requested about it.
