Barbri

On January 31, 2018, Barbri emailed me a $1,500 invoice for a cancellation my enrollment. When I signed up for Barbri my first year of law school, I was advised by the Barbri representative that I was free to cancel this program at anytime. I was never advised that there was a cancellation fee pursuant to Barbri 's terms. I was also never provided with a copy of the purchase agreement or it's terms.

Once I received this invoice, I contacted the Barbri manager who told me and I quote 'At the time of your registration per the Terms and Conditions of the agreement we were not allowing students to cancel as you did agree to pay for the course in full. However, since the time of your registration we have now allowed students to cancel their enrollment by paying a cancellation fee. Below is the information on the cancellation fee.'

At the time of my registration, there was no cancellation fee in place as stated by the manager. Accordingly, I cannot be obligated to pay a fee that was non existent at the time I signed up for this program, since Barbri did not have this policy in effect at the time of my registration. Barbri eventually changed this policy after my registration and without notifying me or sending me a copy of their updated terms, including the cancellation fee schedule.

Pursuant to the terms listed on the Barbri website which apply to me and were the only ones available to me, I am able to cancel my enrollment without a cancellation fee since I have not been shipped materials, attended a bar review class, or had access to any online bar review course.

This company is very dishonest and never sent me a cancellation fee schedule in my 3 years of law school to let me know that there were different fees associated with different dates. Instead, Barbri actually waited until January 31, 2018 to send me the cancellation fee in the amount of $1,500 when they could've simply sent me the updated terms and cancellation fee schedule as soon as they were changed by Babri.
