Barefoot Yacht Club& Resort Villas Beach Vacations

I traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 though Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 with family/friends. I made the reservation for Barefoot Resort Villas over the phone on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014. However, when we arrived at Barefoot Resort Villas I went to check-in and was refused. So a 31-year-old female went in to find out what happened, and was told that EVERYONE in the party had to be 21 years of age or older, which is NOT correct according to the policy on their website. Their policy (along with many other hotels/resorts policies) states that the person making reservations must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid ID. I presented my ID but was still refused service. One would think because we were African Americans, and the males had dreadlocks and tattoos, we were not allowed to stay there even though we made reservations several days prior to arrival and the balance was paid in full. We were told to call the 1-800 number because we booked the reservations through Expedia, and was not even offered assistance with finding another venue for our stay. After exiting the building, the lady locked the front door, and continued to watch us outside of the premises. Once outside, we began calling around for other places to stay. The lady then proceeded to come outside, get in her car, drive to the rear of the building and call the police, who pulled up and parked in a parking lot across the street. We were not being hostile or threatening in any way, other than remaining parked on the premises until we located another place to stay. Once we were able to book another room at another resort, we vacated the premises. Lesson learned: RACISM AND RACIAL PROFILING STILL EXISTS. If you're going to deny access to your facility, please make sure your policy complies with your reasoning. We were lied to about company policy concerning the age of those staying at the resort, and we were denied a printout of the comments the receptionist made to the account as to why we were refused service. I hope we're able to get a full refund since we were not allowed to stay there due to no fault of our own.
