I am writing on the behalf of Barnum Dental in reference to complaint number *** and Patient *** *** Patient was seen on August 29, 2016. When patient arrived our front desk staff asked *** *** are there are any changes to your account information such as address, phone
number or insurance informationThis is protocol for all of our patients. He stated no changesThe patient was then seen by one of our providers which notated he needed to have a filling on a molarThe next step was to have someone explain what needs to be done along with what he will be responsible for as well as gathering a signature. The doctor then performed the service and patient seemed very satisfied. Pt was escorted upfront to be check out by our front staff and explained to *** *** your insurance will be covering x amount of dollars and your responsibility will be the remaining . Patient then stated I no longer have my insurance, " I cancelled it because it wasn't covering anything". That is when I was called to step in. I explained to patient we were contracted with his previous insurance company to charge contracted rates and it is against his insurance to charge the rates if he is no longer insured with them. As a courtesy, I offered him our in house insurance that normally costs for a year at NO COST which will allow him 30% courtesy off our standard fees for one year (which I felt was very fair) in addition the doctor took off additional money for the work that was done that day. We then noticed he had a previous balance with our office in the amount of which was explained to him about a previous d.o.s and it was never paid. Having him mention his situation of not working currently I took off an additional to make his bill and even and gave him the option to make monthly payments (which we do not do in our office) patient stated "no, I will just take care of it but wasn't expecting this" I explained all I did to try to accommodate him and he said thank you and left. I really feel we went over and beyond with the circumstance but he neglected to explain this to your company. He also wrote a not nice review on one of our review sites which he should of explained what we did to try to help him. This is exactly how it happenedI called I explain over the phone my situation (my toothache) I came and I was seatedMinutes later I was with the dentist assistant at the dentistchairI clearly explained to her, Can you please give me a quote how much I will be paying?I have no insurance and I'm still unemployedAs I sat there she went to the front and came back and showed me an the cost printed on paperIt clearly described the cost of a filling and the cost to extract a tooth(The area where I was feeling the pain) The dentist explain to me the tooth could be save so I agree on the filling once the young assistant showed me the price on paperI got the filling doneI went to the front deskAnother woman who was not the dentist assistant tells me I own them a total of $dollars for todayI was concretely confusedI explain to her the assistant gave me a different quoteShe replied you have no insurance and you owe $from your last visitI ask whyShe couldn't even give me a direct answer for the amount forthe $She then went on to explain the assistant was not suppose to give you that quoteshe does not operate the computers up frontI went on to explain how is that my fault. I went in there with the pretense I was going to pay the amount she gave me beforehandunder $100. If I didn't have a credit card I would probably would have been arrested for their mistakeI was upset and told them I will never return here ever againI hope this has been helpful.Sincerely *** ***
